I went to the salt tram over 6 times btwn 1974 and the mid-80's. No video in those days, just still shots. One hell of a feat of engineering. I always wanted to salvage some of the timbers. Used to go up to Cerro and hang out with Jack and Barbara Smith who owned Cerro Gordo back in the 70's. I also helped a Ham Radio club with installing some antennas for their 2 meter repeater at Cerro Gorgo Peak. Hell of a view up there, lol. Those were the days...
Brent, I never once see you do anything in slow mo..... really i get tired from your speed bro... good to hear from you , I'm normally watching your first channel... So gald i found this.. I remember when you just started out some years ago..I think when I subscribed you had 75.000 subs. so proud of your as a Underwood myself. I love history.. Each time I see you running around mines or hiking... Always praying you safe brother, Your helping me relax back in the UK after Ukraine.. God bless you.. Maye he or she keep your always safe my Good man. Wishing you good health
I remember watching your hike from the tram. That building for the top tram, when you think about it, was a amazing build! Think, now in this day and age, would be a horrific endeavor to build, so imagine what it took to build back in 1919. Everything needed to be brought in by mules and then lugged up one by one. Imagine trying to get those huge metal wheels, that probably weighed a ton or more, up to the build sights. And the manpower needed to put it all together and have it actually work is mind blowing. The logistics alone would have needed a team of people. Thank you, Brent, for bring us along on your ride. 😊
As a child, I felt free riding my bike, and that was in a city. So I can imagine how free it feels to ride the dirt bike, especially being at Cerro Gordo.
5:51 Osprey in the upper right corner! 🦅 Anyone who HASN'T seen Brent's EPIC salt tram hike from several years back--you're missing out! GO! Vicariously explore...for now...! 😉😉
I remember the video where you hiked down the Salt Tram all the way down to Keeler or was it Lone Pine? Anyway, I will never forget you going down the wash and how steep some of the terrain was, and how in the end, it became dark and you still hadn't arrived, but eventually you made it! By the way, I saw you on CBS Sunday Morning this morning! It was so awesome to see Cerro Gordo on the TV, being covered by CBS! ❤ You are doing amazing work up there! Thank you for sharing this trip. The views always take my breathe away. 🥰
Wowww Super stunning video👏👏👏😍... The Historical Original Salt Tram and View's sooooo Beautiful love it ❤❤❤ thank you so much to share it from subscriber and Big Fan from Indonesia🇮🇩☺🥰🙏
I'm glad you took this opportunity to answer the call of the wild, and thanks for sharing your response. Or perhaps its response. I'm not in a place where I could do anything like this myself, so it's amazing to see your adventure. Maybe someday I will be, and I'll be more than satisfied if it's half as beautiful as some of the sights you've shown in your videos.
I so appreciate your introspection as you consider things from the past and the inspiration we can take from them to apply to our lives today. I could not agree with you more about taking time to explore and adventure.
I've been away from the channel for a few months, but returning I'm blown away by the scenery and the narration. I love the history, and seeing these structures and thinking about the incredible economics behind the salt tram project.
After building those tram stations and towers they had to drag that heavy-ass cable all the way from the dry lake, over the mountain, and down the other side!
Love your videos I can’t get enough of them it’s mind blowing on how they did this way back when I m an iron worker and this stuff blows me away on how they got all the materials up there not just lumber but the cables, hoists, buckets I just can’t process this in my mind we are so gifted with technology in this day and age keep the videos coming I watch them all thanks oh and I’m planning a trip out to see this I’m in awe 💥👍💪💥👍💥💪👍💥
Good to see you getting a motorcycle ride out & away from current day to day things up in town . Nothing beats being alone with just you & your thoughts as your troubles slowly vanish behind you . Great therapy session . And “ YES” , those guys who originally designed & built that entire tram line were “ Men above men” & truly created an engineering marvel. It’s too bad it didn’t work out in theory as once up and running it was found that the weight of the “ wet “ salt was more than they had accounted for when “ dry” and that made each bucket of payload have to be less than originally planned . I guess in the end it became less than profitable to operate and had to be abandoned. It’s way cool to see it mostly still all intact 110 years later , a true testament to the construction methods used . C-ya , and as always , “ Stay safe “ 😎👍
Wow, that was really beautiful. Not only the views but the wood in that structure, absolutely gorgeous. I hope to make it out there sometime. Take care.
I remember your hiking down to the valley. I thought you were off your rocker then. But I’ve watched you drop over 900 feet into a shaft sooo that’s confirmed!! I’ve been watching for a long time now. Hard living but great rewards for the soul. Well done sir
Watching you ride your bike around the mountains and surrounding area gives me an idea. For the resort side of things, map out at least 3 different bike trips within 30 miles of you, put up small signs, or an info/log book at each cool scenery stop. Have a cooler at each stop as well, buried in the ground so it stays cooler, with water, some trail mix or something and electrolyte drinks. No need for ice, use the ground, at least in non freeze seasons. That would be awesome, one could stay at the American Hotel overnight, be woken up by the smells of coffee, bacon, and eggs ready for them as soon as they sit at their table for breakfast, they get their map/bike route for the day, to peruse while they eat. Once they are finished, full and happy, they get ready to go, and ride out to a series of very cool pre arranged stops, with nourishment should they require it. That would be awesome.
I love doing the 35 mile loop up Cerro Gordo, over to the Salt Tram, down to Swansea and back to Keeler on my bicycle. It's a daunting ride and that 25% climb you mention is a no joke hike a bike for 2 miles rising 2000 ft. The total climb vertical is over 8,000 ft. and the descent down to Swansea is some really rough riding that challenges Jeeps. I never cease to be apprehensive much of the time on this ride because along with the incredible beauty it is a unrelenting challenge, especially alone.
Love the video! I am in a suburb of DC in VA. I try to take different routes to where I am going whenever I have time. There are still loads of roads I haven't been on after living here since the 90's. Don't know about you....but I build a map in my head as I go......when I first started driving, I used to try and get lost!! Then find the path back. Love the stuff you do with Jason and Dan! Those guys are pretty cool. Have a great week!! That scenery is amazing!!!
you should consider getting a big or 'fat' tire rear end set up for your bike. So much more comfortable on rough terrain and rocks and so much more capable in snow and mud. Love the channel.
Hey Brent at about 7:13 on the video is an overhead scene of you riding and there are some faint remains of a road that goes off to your right. Have you ever gone out that way to see whats there?
No, no golf course. Why do people always want to "improve" nature? The idea is to go up there for the wildness of it. How it was a hundred years ago. You would need boatloads of water, that isn't there. Proper soil for grass , that isn't there. Probably fertilizer, that would run down the slopes and ruin the habitat. So no, no golf course.
Absolutely love the sun dried timbers of the tramway! That is the kind of material I want for my tiny house. Incredibly brutal feat of engineering by a handful of real men!👍
There is a "short" video about the use of a specially trained dog to identify graves in the Cerro Gordo cemetery on Brent's other channel, "Ghost Town Two"
Thank you I was just about to ask you how the road was up to the tram because I plan on going up there this fall and i was wandering how well it survived the spring snow melt and of course I will stop and say hello to you.
Great Stuff Brent! I got a question: Could it be, that it´s much more green in general this year up there because of the rain you guys had? Looks awesome!
You constantly remind me to breathe, to notice beauty in the world around me, to challenge myself. Thank you.
Nice. Love the short video. And longer ones too. But I can watch this in one viewing.
Been about 25 years since I have been to the salt tram. Glad to see so much standing still.

I want to live in your ghost town. I love nature and the vintage way engulfs me…I am sold!

Wouldn't it be fantastic to see it rebuilt though!
Great video. best wishes from your old stomping grounds in Florida. Plant City says hello.
Such backbreaking work to get those Timbers up those hills. Much respect to them
I live when you do your touring pieces...so so beautiful...thanks Brent 😌
Lovely ! Thank you again Brent ..
Very inspiring, amazing ride, Beautiful view and amazing history thanks for sharing!!
If there is a Emmy for RUclips channels it should be yours.😃
As a child, I felt free riding my bike, and that was in a city. So I can imagine how free it feels to ride the dirt bike, especially being at Cerro Gordo.
Well I fall off bikes alot
Hey Brent, love the footage of the drone following you along the Salt Trail ! Thanks for sharing with us the beauty in history

That is the reason I joined both your channels. For the exploration!!!!! Love it.
So amazed at the size of those structures and what is possible. Thanks for continue to share with all that is going on in the area
So love this place you call home
I've been away from the channel for a few months, but returning I'm blown away by the scenery and the narration. I love the history, and seeing these structures and thinking about the incredible economics behind the salt tram project.
Great video wow thats so cool !!! LOVE IT thank you and big hugs from MN
Narration 10/10. Inspiration 10/10
Crazy to think about how much work it was to place those tram stations on the side of the mountain!
And all they had was mules, wagons, and whoever was crazy enough to scale cliffs to get this done.
After building those tram stations and towers they had to drag that heavy-ass cable all the way from the dry lake, over the mountain, and down the other side!
Back before we got regulated out of being a can do nation
Brent your narrative explaining the area feels like I'm riding just behind you.
Love your videos Brent i could watch Cerro Gordo all day
I love watching this cannel, wish there where more videos.
I really appreciate you taking the time to make these videos about cerro gordo, really inspires me to do something more with my life ❤️
We are a people who love to hear it can't be done, that's our cue to do it. This country is full of special people.
I would love to live in Cerro Gordo!

Very cool 👍🏻👊🏻🇺🇸😎
Incredible engineering. Thanks for sharing!!
Wow! What a feat! And for something as insignificant as salt
Awesome thank you. You are an inspiration for that never give up spirit.
Great video Brent. Thanks for sharing. I do wish you would schedule these trips with a buddy. "Safety" 😅😅
I remember the video on your hike down the tram...really amazomg some of the towers they built.
I love how your second channel is just as high quality as the main, just a little shorter
So Beautiful out there . I love the history and the views
Awesome bike hike 🫶
Speaking of getting back to 'basics'.. this video is alot like your older stuff. Enjoyed it!

Great video! I walked from Cerro Gordo to Forgotten Pass in 1987, then down to French Spring. Thanks for investing in our county.

You never disappoint with your videos 😀 Great view and I watched the hike you did previously.
Outstanding ride. Amazing history. Thank you!!!
Just out exploring today. Old abandoned anthracite mines and the ruins that surround them.
Super glad you went back for a video Brent!! And also glad you didn't decide to do it by foot this time 😂. Such a beautiful ride!!
Breathtaking!!
Hey Brent, 🖐 What a cool place to go see!!! 👁 Thanks for taking us along!!! 😊
Incredible! Thanks for taking us along.
Absolutely epic.
What a fun ride, would love to do it sometime. thanks Brent, you're awesome
Thanks Brent. Great video!
Howdy Brent, already hit the like button, .... just know it will be a good video!⛏⚒⛏
Nicely done. One of those videos you hope no one else finds so this place stays how it is, also done well enough that you want to explore this place
Love the video! I am in a suburb of DC in VA. I try to take different routes to where I am going whenever I have time. Seems like a nice place to overnight camp. Keep being awesome.

++on the fat tires, they are so nice
This was a nice little video, good one
Hey Brent at about 7:13 on the video is an overhead scene of you riding and there are some faint remains of a road that goes off to your right. Have you ever gone out that way to see whats there?
4:45 What kind of timber did they use for these structures? I love the look of it, along with the thick steel that has rusted but still smooth
4:25 that's insane!
omg the majestic nature
Awsome place 👌 I'll be seeing in September
Whatever expansion you do, you will do it well!
Bret, your looking good these days. cool.
You are soooooo right. TYVM
Smoke a joint with that view - what drone r u using
A nice golfcourse should be great there, great views❤
No, no golf course. Why do people always want to "improve" nature? The idea is to go up there for the wildness of it. How it was a hundred years ago. Spectacular 👍👵❤️
Absolutely love the sun dried timbers of the tramway! That is the kind of material I want for my tiny house. Incredibly brutal feat of engineering by a handful of real men!👍
I wish I lived closer to ride these ridges
Man, you need to rebuild that "highway in the sky".
Hilltop B&B at each stop!
that would be brilliant to redo that again for your visitors
Brent always has 'mine' blowing videos!👀
What happened to your last video: "Finding Human Remains" ?
It's there: ruclips.net/video/LeUt09ZsqPo/видео.html
There is a "short" video about the use of a specially trained dog to identify graves in the Cerro Gordo cemetery on Brent's other channel, "Ghost Town Two"
That's pretty incredible and I don't think we can fully comprehend what went into this operation!
What happened to the video that was taken off??? Sounded like it was going to be a good one! Human Remains??
There is a "short" about the use of a dog to find graves in the Cerro Gordo cemetery on "Ghost Town Two"
Thank you I was just about to ask you how the road was up to the tram because I plan on going up there this fall and i was wandering how well it survived the spring snow melt and of course I will stop and say hello to you.
i still remeber the first time i wachted you i was by a friend at home and saw your first vid and sice then i dint miss 1 vid
Is the salt tram related to the ore tram across the valley in pine creek,,, the construction looks very similar,, I have seen each,,
Nice vid 👍🏽
Self-reflection can be such a positive endeavor.
Great Stuff Brent!
I got a question: Could it be, that it´s much more green in general this year up there because of the rain you guys had? Looks awesome!
