    Thanks! The benefit of finding a dc powered device is that you can use a battery instead. I've seen devices that work with either DC or ac - they immediately change the voltage to DC inside anyway (with a rectifier). Likewise, I've seen a device that says to use an ac adapter, then it immediately changes the voltage to DC inside anyway (presumably it was easier for them to source the ac adaptors at the factory or something)

    • @StephenMcLeod
      @StephenMcLeod  2 года назад

      Yeah, quite right. Those 12v/15v battery connections can be pricey mind you. It's something I should probably investigate a bit more.

      @RobDuarte 2 года назад

      @@StephenMcLeod you can make a 15v battery by just adding up enough other voltages.. 13 AA batteries 😄

    AC isn't any more dangerous than DC, it's the voltage that counts! So 15V or 12V AC is the same as 12V DC as far as safety goes. You can still cause shorts and set it on fire if you're not careful, of course :)

      While they can both be dangerous an AC current is more dangerous at the same voltage and amperes as a DC current
      the alternating nature can cause atrial fibrillation, while DC merely causes cardiac standstill, it's much easier to get a "frozen heart" to start moving again than it is to slow down one that's beating too fast
      the alternation can also lead to your muscles contracting rather than extending, which means you're more likely to get prolonged exposure from AC than DC
      you're really only going to get more severe risk at 22-40 mA AC or 80-160 mA DC, voltage doesn't really come into account when trying to judge how harmful a current could be (aside from a low enough voltage being unable to move enough current to cause harm)

    Sweet, do you have any resources to learn how to circuit bend? What kind of potentiometers to use, etc. I'm a total noob regarding this.

    • @StephenMcLeod
      @StephenMcLeod  2 года назад

      There's a bunch of good resources for audio, but less for video. www.circuitbenders.co.uk/tips.html is decent. So is Simon the Magpie's video on his channel about circuit bending. That's where I learned a lot of things. Also, check out this video, where I walk through my process. ruclips.net/video/AM8H7nDEtRc/видео.html There's no set potentiometer range, but for video stuff I find 500ohm - 20k is a good range

    Are these type of video enhancers format specific (I.e. PAL/NTSC) or can they be used regardless of formats. There seems to be many more units available from US compared to Europe.

    • @StephenMcLeod

      Nice one. In one of my videos I explain the process I use. It's the earliest one I did. With the vivanco. But yeah, I generally just use crocodile clips and explore. I try avoid the last pins on the chips as they are often power connections which can go booom

    • @StephenMcLeod
      @StephenMcLeod  2 года назад

      Thanks! I don't have too many. I tend to try avoid anything that takes in full wall voltage into the device and has an internal transformer. So DC powered devices generally I prefer as there's less chance of me hitting big voltage. :)
