I learned to drive (at age 15) on my dad’s 1966 “Falcon” van, much like this one, but I remember a few differences. I didn’t think the Econoline came until later, but I’m obviously wrong. My dad’s van had rectangular tail lights, non opening windows in the rearward side panels even with the door windows and a cover over the engine between the two front seats. This was 1972 and by this time the six year old van was showing signs of wear and getting long in the tooth. My dad took good care of it, but at 90K some-odd miles, the gear column shift linkage was shot and you were frequently stuck in second gear. You’d have to get out and reach under and align the two transmission levers by hand both pointing down to get it into neutral again. You learned when shifting from first to second to giggle the shift lever a little bit going through neutral so the first lever would drop down before pushing up on the lever for second. Then it would go to third ok when needed. This is what I was learning about how to drive at 15! It wasn’t unusual for me to jump out and do this on the street sitting at a stop lite. Wouldn’t trade it for the world!
I drove one of these when I worked for City of Novato traffic engineering Dept. when I was in high school. I loved it. Three on the tree, 170 CID 6 cylinder. I thought it was cool.
Awesome, I have a 63 in the same color “Holly Green” only mine has been in New England it’s whole life and shows with a nice rust patina. Cool to see how my van looked in its hay day! Thanks for the vid
i have a 65 and it the second 65 i have owned ive always wonder what rpm is at 55mph and 65mph.i blew a engine in my first one running around 75mph for eleven hour strait . with a used 200 block out of a fairmont, btw. i cant see rpms at 70 in video please let me know.
I sold the van years ago, I don't exactly remember, but I remember rpms were high to go for so long at that speed, It was driven only at 65 at the most and occasionally only, It was my toy on that time. I missed by the way 🤷♂️
My 64 has heater on the floor. So they must’ve gone do the dash heater starting 65 I’m almost done with my 64 pick up and I cant wait to take it on it’s first Home Depot run.

Hey where did u get those pop out rear windows?
I don't have van anymore but those I got them on eBay used parts.
It's not a 66. It's 60 - 63. A big change was made in 64. The engine was under the dashboard.
Nope. they were like this through 1967 The second generation redesign came in 1969. there were no '68s.
@@radiowave75 correct!
My 65 has mid engine and heater under dash
My 64 has heater on the floor. So they must’ve gone do the dash heater starting 65

I had a 66. The motor was between the seats.
Might trade my 79 e250 for a 62 e series
