I am loving these individual tutorial videos, they are very clearly explained.

Now I understand why this section exists. It turns out to be cut into slices. This is very convenient for web design. Thanks for the lesson :-)

Pretty incredible and I hadn't even yet noticed that persona existed. But for me this is another example of how Affinity has much more tools that I think I will need.
One thing that he kind of brushes aside, is that you CAN export specifically chosen layers right out of the File/Export menu choice. You don't need to use the Export Persona. I discovered this quite by accident, just to see if maybe it would work. I was working on a series of frames for an animation and had to change only one specific layer, but still have other layers that I would click on and off, using them only as a guide for placing the new frame/layer. Then I turned on only the layers I wanted to see in the final Tiff file, exported it, and voila!, only those layers (now flattened) were visible. It was a tremendous time saver for a lot of repetitive work that I would have had to otherwise reconstruct over and over.
The Export Persona would have worked too but would have added an unnecessary complication to the steps.

Say I start with a canvas of 256x256 pixels. My goal is to paste images into my document and align them so they fit well in the square canvas I've made. When I export, I want the files I export to be that 256x256p size visible in my document. However, when I go to export slices as shown here, the full resolutions of the original pasted images are created with only the 256x256p square visible and the rest transparent. How do I fix this?

I congratulate you for the new tutorials where the image of the person who is explaining does not appear, since this image distracts and covers part of the program's interface. Congratulations!

Great tutorial as always. James knowledge is fantastic. What would like to know can slices be saved as a preset maybe so I can reuse on different images without recreating. For example frame sizes/ratios that i may want to use on multiple images.

I don't understand (suggestion of vid, or feat ?) how to select multiple layers (!!! each of them are bigger than the file size, eg 1200x1600) > create slice (ok each of them are sliced) > export slice (oik all images ares exported),
BUT, they all keep the alpha (then with different sizes) rather than all with same size without alpha in 1200x1600.
The question (please someone) : how export in one shot severals layers overflowing doc size with only doc size in "one shot" (many times I have batch of photos, would be very helpfull - now I do one by one THANK YOU

I am using the export persona in V1 for quite some time but I have a specific use case for which I did not find an appropriate solution: I have two full size layers, one containing an astro image and another the annotated version of the same image. For my website i need several formats: a full size version with the image, a full size version of the annotated image and a square crop as thumbnail. Is there an option to define slices that produce this outputs without the need for me manually showing or hiding the annotaion layer?

@@ATLJB86 ok, that is done already :-). But the example of this video did only export single layer contents. I want to export the whole canvas with a specific subset of all available layers.

@@SmilingJ I would imagine you would select everything then create slices

@@ATLJB86 But isn't that what James did with the Asteroids? This resulted in multiple slices and not just one. But I think I'll have to try it myself later today.

Not sure why but when export slices I get more than what I see on the screen. I cropped. I resized the document and the canvas and YET STILL when I export slices I still see the white edges of what was the original image I placed. I am trying to make the JPEGs as small as possible. My slices NEVER seem to export ONLY what is shown on the screen ... they made this SO hard. I can't believe it. TOTALLY NON-INTUITIVE. Trying not to rant.

I just want export my photo image layers to files. same as I would do in photoshop. I do not want to export all my photos to slices as assets for website building. how do I do export my photos without having to tell the app to do what it should just do automatically????

Just about everything (even some really simple stuff) requires a convoluted workaround in Affinity Photo. Do yourself a favour and pirate Photoshop.
