Say Jim, mine was doing the same so I took it apart and I found the reservoir had alge built up in it and was causing the float to sometimes work and not. I cleaned it then I ran some bleach water through the pumt to disinfect the pump.. I let is sit for one hour before running fresh water through it. If you didn't open the reservoir you may want to see if that is causing you the intermiting run and no run. I cant tell you if the bleach is harful to the pump so if you try my trick, it on you. Good luck my friend.
Would anyone know if the drain hose should have suction? Mine is hooked into the sewer drain and I see bubbles coming from that point heading back towards the pump and subsequently the furnace
If your AC is off it could still have water draining in the reservoir. It should eventually stop draining. If your pump runs constantly then your float is stuck.
The float sticks if alge builds in the reservoir so be sure to clean it out. Also the micro switch will make a clicking sound when you lift the float up and down if it's working. Be sure to do your checks and cleaning while unpluged. I know this is 4 years old but it may help someone.

Where can I get a replacement for the little black "check valve"?
The check valve is available on Amazon.
Is it supposed to remain on even ac unit has automatically shutoff? I mean I can hear as if it’s draining but it never stops?
