I personally think that Bocs mother is the dead demi-human mother that lies in Fort Height.
Kenneth Haight has an alliance with the demi humans, as we know, and I think before the Knights attacked Fort Height, Boc and his mother lived there.
Boc wearst the attire of a noble, can speak properly, and even is trained in the craft of sewing.
This gives of the impression that he was raised in a sophisticated enviroment.
Anyways, I think that Bocs mother died during the attack of the knights and Boc fled the Fort ultimately getting lost in Limgrave, seeking refuge by his primitive demi human bretheren in the coastal cave.
Cool theory, i like it. I also personally think that he was either transformed into a shrub by another demi-human queen, or given something by his mother that would transform him to protect him.
This makes a lot of sense.... poor boc... hasn't even gotten a good lore video explaining this

I felt so bad when I gave him the larval tear I didn’t think it would kill him and I thought I was doing something that he would appreciate 😭 my next play through I corrected my mistakes and called him beautiful 🥺

The more I think about his story line the sadder I get. From the old joke that someone is so ugly only their mom could love them to the fact that “ unconditional love “ as hard as it sounds only comes down to empathy and appreciating someone beyond arbitrary value judgements and respect them in their own terms. It’s really cleaver how most of us would just lead him to his death out of negligence or by low key agreeing he’s ugly
Nobody actually means it when they say "beauty is on the inside" you're only watching this particular lore channel for the same reason we both know all too well lol
Ah Boc one of the only NPCs in a Fromsoft game that can have a truly happy ending due to the player's interaction with them. A tiny humble happy soul in a weary world tore apart by strife illuminated by nothing more 2 words of encouragement.

!!!!!Spoilers ahead!!!!!: when the capital changed to the ashen capital I had a heart attack thinking my beautiful baby boy suffocated in the ash. I was so happy to backtrack and see he was safe.
Where does he go when the Capital turns to Ash!? Lol I cried when I returned after getting armour I wanted tailoring but he was gone, I thought he died
@@FamedKitten9 He is in the same place its the room at the beginning to get there you just need to walk in the entrance of the capital until you reach the first grace

If you visit Fort Haight in Limgrave, you'll find the corpse of a very large demi human laying at the entrance. This could've been Bocs mother. Considering the fact that Boc speaks English AND wears clothes like a human would, I think it would make sense if he lived in a fort growing up with his mum. Another thing I think supports this is the way the prattling pates voice that Boc recognizes as his moms is deep as hell. Almost like the thing speaking was a very large creature.

This quest is also the one that proves our worth as Elden Lord, all creatures in the Lands Between are equally loved by us! Boc truly is beautiful.
I’m very new to this style of game. I’ve struggled but, made deliberate, slow progress. The byproduct of my journey is that I’ve slowed down, read items, paid attention to details so easily missed, not trying to go as fast as possible, when the journey is what makes for an enjoyable experience. This quest is a prime example, and I’m glad I paid attention. I couldn’t give him what he wanted but rather I gave him what he needed, even he was unaware of it. Thank you for your content. ✌🏼

I refused to give him a tear, because I thought he was cool the way he was... I'm off to get the Beautiful thing imma make boc feel good about himself. Really love the video and the lessons behind the quest seem awesome
same, tried poses like bowing and shiz to try show i respected him as he is but nothing happened. Was super annoyed until i watched this, now to boost my little demi-homie's confidence.
Fun fact: You can use the "you're beautiful" item before he starts talking about Renala. Even before he moves to the capital. You can just use the item near him, whenever. And it skips the rebirth dialogue.

Boc is one of my favorite characters in the game, I’m glad we can keep him alive by simply telling him he’s beautiful as is. This is a Souls game. If anything, I am more shocked by the fact that there is a happy ending for Boc. Will have to keep an eye out for that item.

This was the saddest story in Elden Ring for me. I knew of the whole rebirth part of Boc’s quest so I actively avoided giving him a Larval tear. Little did I know that exhausting his dialogue in Leyndell would cause him to go to Raya Lucaria anyway. Sadder still is that I found this out after finding the prattling pate😔.
I still haven't finished my first playthrough, but come NG+ I will save my precious semester

This was so heartfelt! I could feel you really did like this story. I'm still on my 1st playthrough so I didn't know you could actually kill him by giving him the larval tear. Great stuff as always ❤
Giving him the tear being considered a bad thing is kind of a matter of perspective honestly. If I could wake up in a body I didn’t hate and live like that for a day, I think I could die happy.
No amount of Dark Souls Steve emotes could change that for me.
True, it is a matter of perspective. I think the saying "the grass is always greener on the other side" is pertinent here. Boc didn't necessarily know what he was getting into. If he had known he would become speechless and short-lived, he may have reconsidered.
8:59 Never have I received a brutal dressing down in a voice so soothing and charming. And it hits so much harder because in my case I didn't care much for Boc at that point of my first play through, overwhelmed with "more important" lore and deeper mysteries. So I just chucked the Larval Tear his way to progress the quest and didn't even start looking for him until the next time I wanted free garment upgrades...
He's one of the only characters you can give a good ending to, so I made sure that I would do it! Boc will always live in my playthroughs
I ended up loving boc, This questline was one of my favorites

I don't know if it's been said here and/or if you've heard the dialogue, but beyond Melina showing she cares about Boc in Liurnia, in the Altus Plateau where you can find Boc again, Melina will specifically tell you that he misses his mother and that he wants someone to tell him he's beautiful. Aside from literally telling us where to get the Prattling Pate, she very much tries to tell us exactly what we should do for Boc and cares a lot about his happiness.
I didn't expect to find myself crying over an adorable demi-humans story while it was being described by one of the most calming voices I've heard in my life, but you know, I'm pretty sure I'm better off because of it.

The playthrough that I finally did Boc’s quest , i misunderstood the Fextralife guide and thought you were supposed to give him a Larval Tear and then call him beautiful.

before i beat my first playthrough i made sure to get this little guys quest done for the sake of his self esteem home slice was worth all the looking stuff up XP
id really like to know what happens if you say “not at all” when he asks if you really think he’s beautiful after using the prattling pate but i dont think i will ever be able to bring myself to be that mean to boc in my entire lifetime.

I restarted my game twice just for my baby boy Boc, accidentally killed him and I was devastated, then I was later devastated again when I gave him the larval tear.
I'm not the biggest fan of Boc's quest, but I'll admit your video was a lovely telling of Boc's story. Nice work. I'm looking forward to the next video!
First playthrough I heard his voice while he was disguised as the tree, but I couldn’t for the life of me find where he was. Second time around I made sure to find him. Boc the 🐐

I am loving this channel and I found Boc during my first playthrough. Honestly I find Boc to be my favorite npc in Elden Ring as he gave me motivation to become Elden Lord. When I first began the game, I didn't feel much attachment to the game nor even the title of Elden Lord. However, Boc gave me a reason simply by how much faith he had in me and his dream/goal to make clothes for me when I become a lord. As silly as it sounds, I found motivation because of him and I will protect this demi-human no matter what.

I didn't know you could use the "you're beautiful" prattling pate on Boc and I also (unintentionally) made Alexander my enemy during my first run. Gonna start my second run, if I can get our good companions the happy ending their deserve then it's worth going toe to toe with Malenia again.

Telling Boc that he is beautiful was the purest thing I've done in this game. Him and Fia are the only two NPCs I really enjoyed interacting with. Roderika and Milicent are also very precious. But Boc, Boc is just special. I would always throw a warming stone and bow to him every time I met him.
I did not discover Boc in my playthrough. :( I remember hearing the voice, but didn't actually find him. Now I'm glad I watched this. Thank you.
Boc is precious - one of very few truly good people in the lands between, and that goodness, and sweetness, must be protected. My first play through, I misread the situation with the larval tear, and thought I was doing something good. When he died, I was devastated. At the time, I didn't even know about the "your beautiful" pate, but the description made me think of him as soon as I read it. So in NG+ I basically speedran to altus to progress his story and told him he was beautiful, and I was insanely happy to learn that you could save his life with a little bit of unconditional love and positive regard.

Your lore videos are the best by miles.
I only found Boc on my first play through because of looking up some stuff for Limgrave online, as well as some quest guides. However it was worth it all to see Boc get a happy ending, as not only is he owed a great deal for being himself, but I feel he is a reflection of the player.

Almost everyone I know who played Elden Ring found Boc on their first playthrough, but I didn't. I felt pretty alone after hearing about how I missed his questline, kinda like how Boc felt alone. Too bad Boc wasn't there to teach me an important lesson: it doesn't matter if I'm lowly and wretched, I am loved all the same. I died two days after I completed my first playthrough
i found him on my first playthru.. but i didn't understand how to engage him.. i thought i was being clever by using my spyglass facing his direction.. instead i ended up accidently seeing a streamer's clip how they got him .. simply by jumping.. the one thing i didn't do.. and that part entirely annoyed me... i thought spy glassing in his direction made more sense..but oh well..

This is my favorite npc in the game right next to millicent I am happy that I completed hid quest line properly and some how figured out I needed to use the carving I found way earlier. Thank God for the item description, thanks to that I got to keep my good boy.
I saw a video of someone using the prattling pate to get back to ask if you think he's beautiful, only to tell him no. If you haven't had enough heartbreak in your life, start there.
Even his lifeless body remained in that humilliating pose he always had when alive, his newfound appereance not granting him the confidence he wanted in the end
I did find Boc on my first playthrough, after searching for nearly an hour to find the source of the voice ... but ended up letting him die. Right after I gave him the larval tear I realized what I had done, I was too hasty and didn't think it through.
RIP Boc, at least you survived my second playthrough
On my 1st playthrough I never found the tree but he was somehow at the Coastal Cave already. I cleared the dungeon, but forgot to IMMEDIATELY go back to him before leaving, and when I eventually went back he was gone for good. Even on my 2nd playthrough when I found him and returned the needle to him, he didn't always consistently show up at the places he's intended to appear, so piecing his story together was still very disjointed. Not sure if him being so easy to miss even after patches is an oversight or a commentary on demi-humans not being shown any respect.

Boc is such a wholesome character, and personally I relate heavily with his self hatred and desire to change, so much so that I gave him a larval tear on my first playthrough immediately, bc I thought it would make him happy and feel better about himself. Only for him to perish, right before my eyes leaving me filled with an overwhelming guilt, for truly it is the player's fault he dies in the manner that he does

I found him eventually outside of Rennalas library dead. I somehow triggered him to go to Rennala anyways and he died without being rebirthed. I made sure on my ng+ to immediately save him as soon as I possibly could. It was literally my only mission I focused on after starting the ng+ lmao
I managed to find Boc on my first play through, although I never got his full quest, no matter how often I returned to him. I even got him to Leyndell, haha. Missed the bit where you can call him beautiful. Thanks for the breakdown.
I was able to find Boc on my first playthrough, I decided to cut through the woods one day to see if I'd stumble upon anything interesting and lost my mind when I heard someone calling out. Wild how such a lovely character could have been completely missed!
