Awesome video man! I'm not into drifting but I love your channel. You're one of if not the best automotive youtuber in my opinion. You seriously come across as someone who honestly values your subscribers. I say that based on the fact that you not only try to entertain but you seem to genuinely try an help by giving out good information to those who would want to do the things you do. I truly enjoy watching your videos even though I've been wrenching on Hondas at a dealership for the better part of 15 years I deal with cars all day I still enjoy watching you work on them. Just wanted to say thank you for all the time and effort you put into your channel. You da man!
This guy said exactly what I was going to say - Taylor Ray you are a class act! Well filmed, well edited, down to earth, honest, and relevant for so many people. Thank you.
I found a single dunlop sp sport 205/45/17 for my 7.5 wide wheels (behind my former work place so I've gotten permission) with almost perfect tread, there was 2 but one was done. ($531 tire...) gonna grab another for the front, save me some money! Canada sucks for buying tires, twice the price as the US :(
At the shop I work at if people ask if they can have them we tell them “no you can’t have them , but we leave the old tires out at night in the tire barricade area, if you know what I mean”
New series idea !! 2 sets of Drift tires to compare. Have someone else mount the wheels at the track so you don't know which set your on. You drive. (blind) swap. You DRIVE (the same amount etc). Compare and contrast: value, grip, wear, etc... VIEWS and HELPFUL information will be had by ALL !! (Love the content, we can tell you care about every second) Life goes Fast Drive FASTER!!
That's why I like your channel so much cause it's relatable and you also share you experience!!😁😀!!I totally agree with new tyres instead of used expect if you have a friend that works for a tyre shop!!!
i have accumulated a whole stack of 235-45-17's for burnout tires for my Nova. i have gotten most from the scrap piles. did notice on one set i got recently that there where some "non-repairable" nails in them, but they are just outside the repairable range, not gonna stop me. lol. also, good point. places that deal with AWD vehicles are good. you have guys with WRX's for example that camber out a pair from bad toe, or catch a non-repairable nail or sidewall, and need to replace a set (they cant vary more than 2/32nd's in depth). you can pick up a good pair at 4-5/32nds (50%). but as you pointed out (great vid btw) that lots of new tires in popular sizes can be had very cheap if you search around.
You are on point Taylor. I learned last year that buying new is the way to go. Not sure what its like in Florida but up here in Alberta (Canada) some tire shops do group buys which is an awesome way to get affordable tires. Also one point on changing size, going up or down in sidewall could help if your gearing is slightly off, giving you longer or shorter gearing for a track.
Yeah Alberta is actually sick for tires. Not in the city's usually but get out in the boonies, I live between edm and red deer and I can get 8 tires a set each vehicle for 200-300 usually
Achilles atr sport 2 is definitely the play on low power cars. I drift a brz, and a new pair will last an entire event on a rough track, and I can always find a pair on eBay in 215/45/17 for about $110 shipped. Reverse mount so they don’t chunk and us slow boys are golden
I recommend you checking simpletires.com that Taylor just mentioned. I just went on there to get some drift spares for my non-existent 86. They're $66-72 bucks a piece shipped!
Yeah i thought he was gonna mention at the end when he was talking about the 235s with low pressure vs 265 with high pressure. even if the grip is similar its gonna feel totally different. OH. he did a@ 22:10
225/45/17 about $60 at discount tire. I'm going to put these on my AMG monoblocks with a 40000 mile and 3 year warranty. Doesn't get better then that :) of course downside is you can't drift them and claim warranty. If only if only haha Good video Taylor. Here's a metaphysical thumbs up! But in all honesty this video could have easily been less then 10min long. Taylor ray king of the intro edits and king of extending the videos out extensively lol
hey man great video! just kinda a cool tip for you, when you are mounting lower profile tires (the harder the rubber compound the better) lube it up pretty well and you can throw the first bead on. just put a decent amount of force to basically throw it onto the rim :) then use your duckhead and arm like normal for the second bead. when i started at my second tire shop job no one there knew the trick and i blew all of their minds with the simple little trick. i introduced it to them by asking if one of the guys wanted to race, and then i did that and everyone sort of freaked out :P
Here in quebec, because we have snow, we need to change our tire from summer tire to winter tire. When the mechanic/tire place change your tire, they can’t put back too old tire (it’s illegal here in Quebec to re-use tire that are too old) so here we can have good free tire if you know where to search! ;)
hey taylor if you're worried about lighting when filming from your toolbox, try bouncing it it off your garage door or wall. it seems bright enough to provide enough light that way. love your videos man, appreciate all the advice on drifting
f yeah, just picked up my S15 here in Japan so sending some love from Tochigi and was looking at what to place on the S15 .... nice one and thank you Taylor .... hope you make it back here one day
Great video Taylor! Ever since we started drifting in my country about 6 months ago, the new vs used tires has always been an argument. I've never had to install used tires, as I'm lucky enough to be able to afford them, but that's not the case for some of my friends. The value factor of new ones is even more pronounced because we can get cheap Chinese brands (I use Ling Longs) for $45 and sometimes even less. Once I wear out my set of spares I might buy some Zestinos, which cost 2x what the Chinese ones cost, but are supposed to last longer (hopefully) and handle the heat better.I have 2 questions you might be able to answer on follow up video:- What's the exact model of the Kendas and the front tires that you use?- Can you comment on the handling/grip level you prefer/look for considering Tire type, tire threadwear, tire pressure and suspension stiffness? For example, you like semis 140AAA @ 25psi soft dampers in the front and drift kendas 280AA @ 15psi with stiff dampers in the rear because it gives these particular driving characteristics....I mean, you are skilled enough to be able to drive all these different cars for 2 laps and drift them like they were yours, but it would be interesting to know what you like. Thanks in advance.
255/35 18 Ironman imoves are $60 each and can find them at places offering free shipping. I love them. I slide on 225/40 18’s. Cost me $42 new each. Killer grip for my frs and lasssst forever. Try them out. Also 265/35 gtradial sx2 200w tires can find them for $100 if you want cheap grippy tires. Ps: try some re71r’s up front.
I always buy new or get used from my tire guys. They mount and balance for $5/piece and will do stretch for basically the same price because I'm buddy buddies with em. Also federal SS tires last a long ass time. Lasted me about 20 laps at the drift event and over a year of daily driving real aggressive
Checking date codes is very inportant. I have a set on my car that look mint. The fronts are almost 75% new looking with the rears just off the wear bars with no weather cracking at all. To someone buying used tires they'd seem like a deal and a half. Thing is they've been on my car since 2007. They don't have the grip they look like they would have.
I'm just getting into drifting with my 08 Z. Thanks for the informative video. Off topic, do you pln on doing a Q/A video ever? Are you not really a youtube live type of person?
Im plannin on taking my Rx8 drifting this summer and was wondering if I should change rim size? Ive been told 17 are cheaper that 18 inch for tires. Is this true for used tires? Or would it best to stick with the stock rims?
I went behind a Mazda dealership once during my winter break in December and I found a small mountain of tires next to a dumpster, I didn’t think much of it but now that I’ve seen this video I feel like I should’ve checked them 😭 it was snowing pretty hard tho and I was driving my lowered FC so I didn’t wanna get stuck behind a dealership
weird timing on this video. i just bought a 370z touring sport yesterday and looked at the tires today and there is like 20% tread left and they are dry rotted. i'm going to burn them off and get new ones so i don't kill myself on some country back road.
Also you have to think, using 3 sets of used tires, that's 3x more likely the tire blows and damages your car. With new tires you don't have to worry as much about having them destroy your quarter or bumpers.
any specific tire brands and models for the REAR on a 2003 lexus is300 (first gen) with only bolt ons and a stock WORKING handbrake looking for 205-215/45/17
Couldn't you try some of the bigger tire manufacturers? Michelin, Yokohama, Goodyear, Bridgestone? Advan? Dunlop? xD How would they do compared to the ones you have now? which tbh i've never even heard about.
Dealerships also got some good tires.. cuz people who get there cars serviced at a dealership always got money and get new tires way to early.. only problem is you ain't gonna find anything too special. So s13 and Miata guys are in luck with 185s lol
Bro that one cobra r rim would make my year I have one rim that’s cracked I would buy the rim off u and restore it I don’t have enough money to buy a new one
I bought winter tires from Canadian tire and had them installed and I asked to keep the old tires so you could use them up in the summer on my other wheels and they took them and moved them/ sold them. It was really annoying.
justin powers because they sell seriously powerful, high performance cars that use really good tires and when one tire wears funny they tell these rich guys the whole set needs replacing. So therefore you can pick up three good tires from one car or sometimes just two but they also have all the same brand of tire usually a lot of the performance tires and they don’t want to have to pay for the recycling fee!
I work at audi and get all my tires from work. 245/40r18 is super common. I've gotten a ton of actually good tires for free from work. I don't even bother taking them if they're under 5/32. Also, audi doesn't let us do tire repair at all. So I've taken dozens of tires that have really good tread but a very repairable nail in the center
I think the best solution is to become friend with someone at a tire shop. Tbh here, you don't even need to be friend with them, they'll just give it to you, because they need to pay a shit ton to get rid of tires.
mike labatt lol it's a bag or something bro....I noticed that too very early on in this video haha...I was freaked at first but notice that it was as bag of some sort...at least I hope lol

Cayton98 you got a lil something on your lip there.
This guy said exactly what I was going to say - Taylor Ray you are a class act! Well filmed, well edited, down to earth, honest, and relevant for so many people. Thank you.
Thanks I need drift spares for my non-existent car.
same
Hi
First Name Last Name I as well :) I got 2 cars but they aren't driftabable yet
I need drift tires for my 25k 86 that the bank still owns... lol
I found a single dunlop sp sport 205/45/17 for my 7.5 wide wheels (behind my former work place so I've gotten permission) with almost perfect tread, there was 2 but one was done. Ford Tech Rexx where is that
an opossum walks by your garage at 18:33
lol never would have seen that, watching on my phone. good thing it wasn't a skunk.
Tyler Pelletier where?
Haha, awesome.
It was in the back for most of the video lol
Adam Priest I must be blind
Taylor makes a 30 min video of tires so entertaining! Love your work keep it up

Drive FASTER!!
This is a great idea!
That's why I like your channel so much cause it's relatable and you also share you experience!!😁😀!!I totally agree with new tyres instead of used expect if you have a friend that works for a tyre shop!!!
Damn! That opening scene is slick as, you never fail to impress with your camera and editing work Taylor

Tuğrul Berk UySal he just said he gets a pair for $110. That’s $55 per tire. Way cheaper
oops
Try ironman imove gen2, pretty comparable price to atr sport, and usually last longer
Thanks for the quality vids. I’m new to drifting and there’s no in depth channels like this out there.
tire consistency is a crazy important point. if your setup is changing all the time I bet it'd take 2-3x longer to progress
Yeah i thought he was gonna mention at the end when he was talking about the 235s with low pressure vs 265 with high pressure. even if the grip is similar its gonna feel totally different.
OH. he did a@ 22:10
I still
Love the old videos man. Been here since the beginning. Thanks for all of the badass content from over the years.🙏

Blanco Escondido I call those the MayPops... Cheap Chinese tires haha
Liking these video, it helping new people like me to get into grassroots drifting with all these knowledge
Dealerships. Im a tech at a Honda dealer and we “recommend” tires at 4/32’s, sometimes more if they have balance/noise issues.
hey man great video! just kinda a cool tip for you, when you are mounting lower profile tires (the harder the rubber compound the better) lube it up pretty well and you can throw the first bead on. just put a decent amount of force to basically throw it onto the rim :) then use your duckhead and arm like normal for the second bead. when i started at my second tire shop job no one there knew the trick and i blew all of their minds with the simple little trick. i introduced it to them by asking if one of the guys wanted to race, and then i did that and everyone sort of freaked out :P

love your videos man, appreciate all the advice on drifting
you know that this video being made means abunch of teenagers are gonna be dumpster diving tonight lol
So what? At least people are having innocent fun
Yes sir ☺️
Of course
That INTRO was KILLER bro. Loved it so much!
Grand Theft Tires
f yeah, just picked up my S15 here in Japan so sending some love from Tochigi and was looking at what to place on the S15 .... nice one and thank you Taylor .... hope you make it back here one day
dang dude you have such a long way in 3 years so awesome not sure why this is recommended for me
Great video Taylor! Ever since we started drifting in my country about 6 months ago, the new vs used tires has always been an argument. this is extremely informative as i am prepping for my first drift event. thanks again Taylor!
Taylor again with the fireee 🔥 intros as always! Killing it my mannn. Love from Puerto Rico!
Another great wisdom with Taylor video! Ha keep it up man. I’m going to try running new tires this year over used and see how they work for me
What about federal tires? Do you recommend them?
simple tire is my shit!! 35 dollar pre tire for the miata, and they last pretty good even dailying with a welded diff
long time later but just wanted to say that i use them still for my miata drift tire needs
255/35 18 Ironman imoves are $60 each and can find them at places offering free shipping. I love them. I slide on 225/40 18’s. Cost me $42 new each. Killer grip for my frs and lasssst forever. Would love another tire talk in the future looking to get into drifting a real car. Trying to see what I'm getting into.
"ling long"- dead af lol
Are you still planning on rebuilding your VS KF wheels?
Great video and thanks for the knowledge! Keep up the great work Taylor!

Love the long vids Taylor, keep it up
Killin the videos taylor! Always detailed and entertained! 👌
this is precisely what I need to do for this weekend 🤣😂
Really enjoying your videos. Good work Taylor.
The way you talk with your hand is mad funny
On my daily, I run 215/50/17s and the tires that I have are almost $150 a tire installed. I can get 205/45/17 Kendas for ~$90 installed
You put so much time into your videos. 👍
love the channel. love the content. you make me feel like your homie.
Im plannin on taking my Rx8 drifting this summer and was wondering if I should change rim size? Ive been told 17 are cheaper that 18 inch for tires. Is this true for used tires? Or would it best to stick with the stock rims?
This video definitely helped a lot, thanks!
What do you think about making a tire set up video. Different sizes you would run with different power and cars. Etc
Even when i started drifting back in 06. I always thought save the time and head ache and go new. Currently I am running achillas atr2 on my rx8
dude wtf is that behind your shoulder at 16:33!?
rarbona 1029 creepy ash
A racoon, groundhog.. not clear enough but has a bush tale and exploring like a rodent would...
Zoomed in... possum.

I got a job at a tire shop so i get good deals. it's so nice.

Fantastic video! The more free tires I can find for drifting the better 😂👌🏻
Hi.I'm a big fan.i love your videos.I was wondering if you could make a tutorial video on the radio setup u have on your miata
Tire shops have to pay 1 or 2 dollars to have old tires taken and junked so lots of places are happy if you come grab some from them
Awesome Taylor. Great knowhow. Thanks. Dutch regards
This was GREAT! Thank you Taylor ❤️
Club loose shootout!! Come up TR, lets see you this season, since Turek just moved to CA
love kenda brand tires-i have them on my car trailer and atv
Awesome video lots of good information!
I feel you been using kenda's for like 5 years now last set I made 2 1/2 events on one set
Loved the video! Great info!
Had to rewind it to make sure... Tyler P said it first, a opossum walked by when you introduce led new tires lol
*The new tires
What is your opinion on Sumitomo HTR Z III compared to the Kenda Kaiser KR20 tyres?
Hey taylor what happens you find burners that are older then 5 or 10 years on DOTs what's your opinion on that??
Your making we want to get tires even tho I don’t need them right now.
It’s nice to see guy again 😭
Always good info brother
any opinion on the Yokohama advans? I'm debating between them or federal 595's.
I work at a tire shop and the best finds are when a luxury car comes in and gets 4 when he only needs 2
Jairo Canales agreed! Been in the tire industry for 6 years and I love snagging some take offs
Why are your videos so good, show off
Opinions on drift super beater vs drifting your daily?
After watching so many RUclipsrs change so many tires I want to try and change one so bad
Also you have to think, using 3 sets of used tires, that's 3x more likely the tire blows and damages your car. With new tires you don't have to worry as much about having them destroy your quarter or bumpers.
I knew I recognized you. I wasn't sure till I seen Marco.
What is the claw like thing (3:50-4:05above your right shoulder in the garage door track? I thought it was Fed, shits creepy!
yeah that caught my eye thought it was a hand
Ever tried the Sentury UHP for drifting? I hear they can outlast Kendas
U HAD A 944!!!! THAT'S MY FAVORITE PORSCHE!!
Do u have more pics?
any specific tire brands and models for the REAR on a 2003 lexus is300 (first gen) with only bolt ons and a stock WORKING handbrake looking for 205-215/45/17

5 bucks that's it around my town the average is 25 a tire
then buy a tyre machine yourself
Martin Wink well no shit I was just cominting on the price variations
You gotta talk them down
Dealerships also got some good tires.. cuz people who get there cars serviced at a dealership always got money and get new tires way to early.. only problem is you ain't gonna find anything too special.
Usually cheaper to buy new tires 5-10$ to mount a used tire with a 1/3 -1/2 tread is a waist of money. If mounting is not free buy new.
HBD!
Also hit up bmw and Mercedes dealerships, maybe Audi.
scott moore why specifically those dealerships?
justin powers because they usually have more performance oriented tyres and the dealerships recommend replacing when there's still good thread on them
I work at a mitsubishi dealership 245/40/18 off evos all day
justin powers because they sell seriously powerful, high performance cars that use really good tires and when one tire wears funny they tell these rich guys the whole set needs replacing.
So I've taken dozens of tires that have really good tread but a very repairable nail in the center
i pay 25€ for a pair of 50-70% tyres here in portugal, balanced already, and they charge me 5€ to mount each tire that i've got
In new zealand you can just go to the tyre shops and grab all there old tyres and as long as you have a tyre machine your sweet as
What’s up with the corvette drift build
Do you still have the vette?
Witch video editor are you using ??
I think the best solution is to become friend with someone at a tire shop.
Tbh here, you don't even need to be friend with them, they'll just give it to you, because they need to pay a shit ton to get rid of tires.
Best place to order kenda tires?
16:05 right above left shoulder (taylors right shoulder).. the hell is that behind him ?!??!
mike labatt lol it's a bag or something bro....I noticed that too very early on in this video haha...I was freaked at first but notice that it was as bag of some sort...at least I hope lol
Chur bro sick vid
