Are you kidding. The Design, the Action Button, Temperature Sensing capability & Dive Feature are your complaints. I have hade the Ultra for a week and have charged it twice. The display alone (Size, Durability & Brightness) was reason for me to upgrade. Not saying that everyone is a perfect fit for the Ultra. I bought my wife the Series 8 because the Ultra just looked silly on her wrist. My wife and I are upgrading from the Series 4, so I was waiting for a big change in design, and Apple delivered exactly what I wanted!
So maybe I missed this but which bands does the ultra watch come with ?
I got the sports loop, but they have a decent variety. I wish they had the Leather Link band as an option!
Nice video! I just upgraded from an Apple 4 watch to the 7 and bought some alpine loop bands on amazon. Love the watch and the bands. I hear in almost every video that the screen is so much brighter. In all the years I have had one I have never thought I wished the screen was brighter
I bought my ultra to monitor my health. I need to monitor my heart rhythm and be notified of AFib and other arrhythmias. As well I need to monitor my blood oxygen levels and sleep patterns. I realize it’s not something to completely rely on but it gives me a heads up to know that I need to check my 02 and to do a 6 lead EKG using my Kardia mobile. Well worth the money. I use it a lot without my phone when on the road through the day. Does everything I need including making calls, gps directions, waypoints for proof of deliveries, texts, email, and so on. Absolutely love it.
Love mine, got it with the orange Alpine strap and it looks fantastic.
I’ve had almost all Apple Watch versions and this is the first one that feels great on my wrist “male” screen is 100% responsive like my iPhone 13 Pro Max
I’m not the target audience for this. When I first saw it during the launch, I thought I wouldn’t like it. Then I saw it and tried it on at the Apple Store, and I was sold. I’ve had it for 2 weeks and I love it. The screen size and battery life alone are game changers, but I love how hardy it feels, and how comfortable the ocean straps feel. Overall, my favorite Apple Watch to-date. But I am keeping my stainless steel (gray/black) series 7 for formal
occasions.
thats funny ! dude i did the exact same thing ...and yeah..kept the 7 also...but now my wife wears it so all worked out lol !
Great long review, I got the ultra and am so pleased with the design and much better battery life.✌️👍
cant wait to get mine. Sent back my series 7 as the battery life for me was annoying to deal with. It did last for an entire day and some but to charge it up basically everyday was annoying. I hope to enjoy the ultra more as it looks like the battery life is pretty good.
I saw it, tried it on then got it. It’s a really nice Watch. Was time time for a change, feels great and not big at all. Such a better display too. Action button is great too, wish I could use with a third party app like WorkOutDoors or Runkeeper.
Loved your honest review 😃 nice info. By the way, the baseline temperature has other uses besides ovulation. For men and women with hypothyroid problems, this is great for determining if your thyroid needs help when your basil temperature becomes too low especially upon waking. All that being said love your review. PS. Will subscribe provided you PLEASE level your exit theme music way lower instead of me being forced to hit the volume control on my iPad to protect my ears or yank my EarPods from my ears 😖
Thank you for the update Andrew. Hope you’re well
Does the way finder Watch face also drains battery life like the Infograph does ?
So without the always on display Whats the battery like ?
Congratulations on the baby❤️☺️
Congrats on your upcoming baby, Andrew! Thanks for a thorough review.
I like how detailed and practical your review is.
1 month = "long term"
It feels like this is the same definition my 17yo cousin has with her boyfriends lol
Awesome review. Surprisingly never accidentally pressed the action button before. But I do wish the crown had a bit more click to it and easier to scroll. Other than that I have no complaints about this watch.
I love the watch. I feel like I’ve grown to appreciate it more over time. The only frustration is if it’s not seated properly it will keep locking itself, but usually it’s just one readjustment and I’m good.
Yeah that's why I immediately turn off the passcode
I really like the regular Apple Watch and its more elegant design. For a more brutal design, I have three G‑Shocks, which I also really like.
Has the Apple Watch S8 or Ultra have the satellite feature that the iPhone 14 does?
How quickly does the water temperature sensor work? I have a temp sensor on my garmin and it can tell me the water temp but I have to submerge it for a couple of minutes before it reaches equilibrium (because it is already warm from being on my wrist). Is this the same for the Ultra or does it update straight away?
I tried out the Ultra and then tried out the 45mm geewiz the 8 series looked extremely small on my hand and here we thought the 45mm was big enough. I am definitely getting the Ultra just not sure on the bands tried the loops out not a fan I like your stainless steel band and the ocean band I’m not an outdoor sports person.
Hi , I had a problem with the digital crown more precisely it turned heavily as you described and i replaced the watch after two days !! and now it spins fantastically !!!! I don't agree about the design, the titanium color is beautiful and the orange is perfect (a woman's point of view) Thanks for the video
Do you know of a way to use the siren speaker for the alarm clock? That would be awesome to wake up us heavy sleepers.
I returned mine after 2 weeks. Couldn’t get used to the size. I only thing I miss, is the battery. But not that big of a deal since I charge all my devices in the morning before work. I ended up getting the gold SS and I get 1-2 compliments at work. Which isn’t a big deal. But if I’m spending close to a thousand It’s nice that people notice it 😅
Hmm... I don't find that I press the Action Button that often at all. Even when I have my Thumb on the Action Button and Index Finger on the Side Button, I end up pressing the Side Button first. However, if the Action Button is being pressed, then switching up the position of the Thumb would be advisable. You could either place your Thumb slightly above the Action Button (near the Display Screen Edge) or on the Bottom Left Corner of the Frame near the Siren. This is assuming that you wear the watch on your Left Hand with the Crown Orientation being "Right" in Settings.
What white watch charger stand are you using? Thanks
I will consider getting one of they release a black version.
Great video! Hey look, we know some people are using the Apple Watch Ultra as a dive computer but here is my concern. A typical dive computer will need servicing once in awhile because over time, the water resistance will degrade. Apple has also claim that the water resistance will degrade overtime on the Ultra, so I would like to know if the Ultra serviceable?
That’s a great question. I totally forgot about that.
Really liking the design, will get one if they release a black version in the future.
$800 is not that bad it’s €1000 in Europe .
I wholeheartedly agree! I love mine.
I definitely want to cover up the action button. Other than that I love everything else about it
I have the Alpine loop in orange. I really like the Ultra with the options that aren’t on the other ones
I plan to buy one
Battery life wasn’t an issue with my series 7, but I love the idea of having more if necessary
But mainly, I want the larger screen, 45mm was great but 49 is even better and I just want a giant screen
what if you turn the watch around so the action button in on the right side?
3 weeks is long term now?
First time able to sleep with my Apple Watch with the Ultra. It was possible with the SE if I setup more strict charging schedule but never tried it. I use it more without my iPhone with the cell service too.
Great review I wish my cell provider would let me trade in and upgrade! I do like my series 7 though with a rugged band.
I also have SE 1 and 7 Nike and Also love those as well! But I am obviously wearing my Ultra More!
Hey there
I purchased iphone 13 a week ago and apple watch 2 days ago i am unable to pair my watch with my iphone since 2 days i think i have a faulty product but its a non returnable product as per Flipkart. Do you have any solution for it
Just came home and my watch was here. I am very interested in the diving functions, however, I don't believe there is air integration! BIG WANT! I used to do a ton of back county hikes, ski and mountain biking, now, being 61 I lean more towards weekend warrior- God, that sounds bad!! LOL In any case the health functions the backtrack, and the GPS will be useful- Last weekend I biked the Switzerland trail here in Colorado- Not that I needed it but data would be cool. I still do the 10th Mountain and a few years ago in a sick snowstorm without my mapping skills and compass, I don't think I would have made it to the hut. One person did get lost and we set out looking for him-He's still out there somewhere-joking we found him and he bought the 1st round! I am looking forward to using and learning this watch. Nice review, action man! Stay clear of the action button, got it!
Ultra is my favorite apple product in a long time. The titanium just looks closer to a normal watch look as opposed to other more colorful options giving it a "gadget" vibe. The ocean band is my favorite band to date. Overall I just like big watches a la g shock vibes, and like you mentioned, it's not as big as you would think 49mm seems on paper. It's perfect on wrist... although maybe not for the ladies. I can see an Ultra Mini possibly being put out in the future or maybe that's simply what the other versions are for. And I personally LOVE the orange accents. Tactical vibes are just my personality all day long and this fits that look all day and blends in super nicely with the titanium. I never buy apple care, but will buy apple care on this because I plan on keeping it a long time. And the temperature thing could simply just be software related, that's not necessarily an Ultra flaw.
I’m a woman and I bought the ultra and I love the larger size and I get Soooooo many compliments on it from both woman and men!
I have had mine for a week now and am extremely obsessed with it! I got the alpine loop band and trail loop band!
Who cares 😂😂😂
I’ve been using the ultra since launch. I would agree with a lot of your points. The temperature sensor is almost (in its current form at least) a non-feature. It pretty much does nothing. But I do think the much larger screen and better battery life really make this Watch unique over the standard versions.
In fact, the screen is barely larger. Moreover, on Reddit the owners wrote that they measured the diameter of one of the round analog dials with a ruler, and on the regular version the diameter of the dial was even slightly larger. There you have it, "the much larger screen".
@@Oleg__ it's 24% larger, duh
@@Oleg__ im an apple nerd and love all things apple, but seriously, if you look at the actual screen being used on the ultra and the size of the black border compared to the 8, there is hardly any more actually used display.
@@mlwalks2964 the flat display makes the difference I think
Mini Giant, Many people have no idea what they're talking about. Apple specifies the size of the case, not the display. After all, you have your own eyes, and RUclips is full of comparisons side by side. Look and judge with your own eyes the scale and size of the entire watch face.
Slimmer outer bezel would be nice in the updated model.
Where did you get your baseball cap from?
@appleinsider Correction - FYI actually, Apple Watch Ultra is not the most expensive Apple Watch you can get this year. Apple Watch Hermès is @ $1249 - $1299.
Great video. I typically have the opposite experience of feeling letdown after the initial hype. I’m usually very happy. Reviewers spend so much time going over every possible shortcoming and flaw, I usually go into an Apple purchase feeling unsure and uneasy about the decision. It usually turns out to be much better than presented and a magnificent device as time goes by.
I love mine, it lasts about 4 days with AOD turned off and blood oxygen turned off as its a feature I use when needed but don't need it on all the time.
Really!? I find reviewers more concerned about trying to force you into buying Apple products rather than being honest.
@@darma8159 not in my experience. Reviewers with Apple devices usually spend most of the time going through every possible issue the device might have. Intense scrutiny other brands rarely, if ever receive. It’s unusual how many people who don’t buy Apple devices, flock to Apple reviews looking for confirmation bias. I watch all types of product reviews, most list pros and cons. With Apple reviewers not only list cons, but potential cons, rumored cons, universal cons and even nothing-cons.
@@sharonb.9128 hmmm not in my experience. I own most Apple devices and I find they purposely omit a lot of stuff like if they’re just trying to sell it.
9:41 Is that why apple change turning crown to pressing the crown (Sleep, water lock etc.)?
Great video. Oh come you don’t want to go diving under the ice in Lake Erie lol. Thanks again.
Why is my action button option menu different?
I went for the ultra mainly for the battery. I hate charging my old apple watch every night.
best AW ever!!!! size + battery + brightness + speaker!!!
functions aside, just that was enough for me!!!
"Set up a command"
That sounds a lot like the pre-windows days (dos), for a PC.
The fact that reviewers have to make a video on their own opinions on this watch. The fact is that this watch isn’t for everyone. If you want the watch get it, if you don’t want the watch don’t get it. I’ve seen a few videos from reviewers saying I hate this watch it’s not what I expected and you are titled to your own opinion but that doesn’t change peoples minds because you made a video on why you hate it. I have the watch and I love it. Don’t knock it til you try it.
I had a high fever last week and the watch didnt tell me that my temp went high than normal even though the graph shows that there is a sudden rise of temperature. The watch should have atleast notify that there is a sudden rise in temperature.
I would apprecite an honest review who has an active lifestyle and what this watch offers
I don't think the orange accent is a negative for the watch since it was package for the outdoor type of users. For the normal users it would just be a something to note and not exactly a negative point.
Long term?
How is the alpine loop waterproof? Dont make sense, isnt it fabric? Wjat happens with it after a shower?
Price? Series 8 stainless steel GPS + Cellular is the same price as the Ultra. It’s a great deal.
I agree. Ditch the orange. I loved dressing my stainless steel up. Also reposition the action button to top. Or at the very least right in the middle. How was this approved once testing. I constantly press it. I do Apple Pay from my watch multiple times a day and I STILL hit that action button by accident at least once a day. Really frustrating when the cashier is waiting and you’re fiddling with your watch because the action button took over the screen. Lol. Other than those two things. I love it. I always got the shiny stainless steel so brushed titanium is perfect for me
I dont get how you press it man, maybe its a usererror
Enable ‘Water Mode’ and it will prevent you from accidentally pressing it. 😉
I love this watch and I have only had this for a day lol.
Agree on his points, It is lil bulky and heavy for me comparatively and the action button goes off all the time !!
how long do you think the apple watch ultra would be good for? i’m not the type of guy to buy a new device every year, so i’m hoping that the watch will be usable for like 5 years or so. is that a reasonable expectation? i mean, the watch already lasts a over two days on a single charge for me so i would think that even in a few years when the battery health is pretty bad, it should last a day or so
Regular Apple watches are good for at least 3-4 years, I imagine that the Ultra would too (maybe more?) - but I guess it depends if you do an activity that would benefit from an additional sensor that is not yet present
@@cd8815 i think the current sensors are good enough for me. thanks for the information
None of the negatives you mentioned have been an issue to me from day one with my Ultra.
May sound conter intuitive but a thin black case could fix the color issue
The temperature sensor is similar to what the Oura Ring offers. Each morning, the Oura Ring tells you the DEVIATION from your normal temperature. I find this to be very useful: if you see a deviation of, for example, +1.5 degrees, you might be coming down with some ailment. So it bears further watching. And you might want to ease up on plans for intense workouts that day.
It’s one of the key metrics that I appreciate having, and have used over the past eight months.
I purchased the Series 8 Stainless Steel version and Love it! My first with SS version usually rocked the aluminum. Ultra doesn’t look good to me, just my preference. Excellent video as always and congratulations on the upcoming little one 🎉
This is my dilemma
Me too, I went with Series 7 Stainless Steel! Love it so much!
Good to know you are in Ohio! I have been a fan for a long time located in Cincinnati.
Do not buy for screen size alone over 45mm version. I see some references to a 24% increase. It is not. According to Apple's tech specs, the AWU has a display size of 1185 sq. mm. The AW7/8 45mm has 1143 sq. mm. About a 3.67% difference I believe.
I love my watch, I honestly do. However it does start timers and workouts when I am taking laundry to the laundry room.
The ultra is like any luxury item, get it if you want it and can afford it. For hikers, divers and endurance athletes this is a huge upgrade and offers much more than the 8. Not gonna lie I want it too but it might be just like when I bought the AirPods Max, I loved them at the time but ultimately ended up returning them when the magic wore off.
I have one. I never push the action button on accident.
I think its just people that have had an apple watch for a while with muscle memory.
The orange I think looks good, I hate that apple didn’t emphasize the orange with at least one of each of the new band styles…
The orange kinda fades when its on a black band. I haven’t even had anyone notice it as anything but an apple watch
how you can do long term review on something that just come out????????????
I love my Apple Watch Ultra! I upgraded from series 6 and it was absolutely worth it for me, but does anyone feel like the lip around the screen is too weak? I barely hit it with a wood surface twice and I have two small dents on it, wasn’t even hard
Very surprised that it can ding up that easily!! I had plans to wear bracelets on same arm as this watch and now a bit worried that they make beat it up. 🤷🏼♀️
So many on RUclips complaining about the accidental pushing of the action button. I’ve had an Apple Watch from the start and in however many weeks of the ultra I’ve never, ever accidentally pushed the action button. So strange.
I want this but the price tag for 2 days of battery is a turnoff. Watch looks great design wise. Adding 2 year apple protection all comes out to almost $1000….
I don’t like the update battery health feature on iPhone I wish don’t exist like in android phones and they can’t see the battery health because you can use your product with out to worry about the battery health
I ordered mine the second it came out on the website. It is literally just arriving today December 15, 2022.
Why so long?
@@bobabola3399 I’m assuming Canada got the US leftovers. Lol
Lots of people who don't exercise or need any of its features buy this watch to go with the Jeeps and hiking gear they buy to "look active" on their way to Mcdonald's.
Facts. Everyone I’ve seen buy one is literally just doing nothing but wearing it and not being active. 😂
I like the Ultra, but I’m not an extreme sports guy. I do run for exercise, but my Apple Watch 6 is still working for me. My biggest want was the Always On screen. I do like the satellite texting (which you didn’t mention), but I don’t go on adventure hikes like in the mountains. I agree that the price is not too high, and if I had an older AW then I would buy the Ultra. I expect that WatchOS10 will have some more features as well. Good review.
What about ipad 10
I got the S8 stainless steel in graphite, got bored real quick.. returned it for the Ultra today 👍🏽
I bought two watches because I was undecided. The S8 SS and the ultra. Returned the SS and kept the ultra. Even if I like the design of the SS a little better all the extra features make the Ultra a no brainer.
@@JoshNieves what are the other features? Deciding between the two.
@@gal5322 brighter screen, almost 3 full days of battery life, nicer Digital Crown, action button, dive app (that I haven’t used).
Personal view, but I think the old bands are too skinny looking on the Ultra. If you compare the old bands with the new one, the new ones are wider. I just couldn't get over the look of all of my older bands on this new watch, so I returned the Ultra.
A month is a long term review?
The Scuba App is fantastic!
Not even a month, actually 1 day short of 3 weeks.
Glad you find the ovulation cycle tracking useful, bud.
I got the smallest version and wear it facing downwards so it looks more like a bracelet accessory..... cause I still like wearing my mechanical watch on my other wrist when going out
$800 not that much when there are other watches going for Way More that does nothing but tell Time and that's IT
Exactly
Most of those watches are investments and will likely go up in value over time, they’ll rarely depreciate by very much. The second an Apple Watch is turned on it’s depreciating in value, albeit by far less than any other smart watch. I think the Series 8 is a really good price point and in my opinion the Ultra just isn’t worth twice the price.
Long-term?
Can you help me get one
What's going on with 14 Pro Max fully charge disabled always on display and a few things, doesn't make any difference the first 15% just glide doing nothing
The Ultra was not meant to be dressed up or down. Agree with the position of the Action Button. Odd. But otherwise, the design is solid.
I love it 🥰
My galaxy watch 5 pro gave me almost 4 days
The only reason Apple advertises this to a specific group of people is because of the price. They know the average person won’t buy a watch that’s the same price as a phone. But hopefully future gens can get this price down and I see them having an aluminum version at some point probably for 500
The real question is how many times can I walk back and forth on the Dublin bridge before it dies?
How can you give this a long term review? It’s been out for a month!
That’s the problem nowadays people don’t see what your saying. People see what’s right in front of them, but in actuality apple has done stuff just like this for years. Adding new features with the old and still making it the same price or even better. But the cancel culture that’s taken a foothold like not to see it the way you’ve explained it. The consumer would rather find fault then to see what the product can bring to the table to be used in everyday life. I think the Apple Watch Ultra looks cool hope to get one sometime soon.
