Nice update Roy. I have watched your railroad come to life for years with the changes. Always a treat to watch you recreate something wonderful. Hope you are doing good and the best to you always.
Hiya Jason! I'm always delighted to receive comments from you. Working on my layout and sharing my progress with you over the years has been tons of fun. I look forward to continuing to share the hobby with you. ...Roy
Hi Roy, glad to see that you are well and still building the Evenston Subdivision... I've learned a lot from you over the years and am looking forward to seeing more of your work in future, thanks for sharing, Ken.
Hi ya Roy. A great introduction to your great layout to new comers and a great retrospective of it for people already sub’d. It’s so wonderful to see you back in your rightful place…..Saturday. Mornings for me. Coffee and Roy is awesome. See ya next time. Looking forward to seeing your “ remodeling.”
Thanks, Adrien. Good to hear from you. I'm glad you could come back to the hobby. I guess it's true: Once a model railroader, always a model railroader. ...Roy
Roy, well this great news. All of us need a shot of N- Scale Union Pacific Evanston Subdivision in our lives. Exciting times a head. Cheers, Chris Perry.
Hi Roy, Thanks for the layout update video showing the updated track arrangement in Echo Canyon. I'm looking forward to your White Mountain track arrangement update video. Cheers, Rich S.
Glad to see another video from you, Roy. Hopefully it means your health has improved. Very good overview of your layout. Including my favorite scene in Echo Canyon.
Hi Roy I hope everything is well with you and your lovely wife and yes a model railroad is never really finished you always will find something to do on it anxious to find out what you're up to with that new track arrangement so until the next video stay well and happy railroading 👍👍
Thanks, Charles. You are so right: There's always something to add or change to an existing layout, and doing so is always fun. It's a pleasure to share the hobby with you. ...Roy
Great episode Roy! Love to hear how you got into the hobby after such a long hiatus! It was December of 2018, that a suggestion from a co-worker to have a train under the office tree that set me off after almost 33yrs away from the hobby! 😳 This time I stuck to N scale and to my surprise, I was glad of my decision because of MTL and Kato making that scale as good as HO, HO, HO! 😉🎅 👍 Cheers Roy! 🍺🍺
It has been a year or so since gettting to watch your videos. Was hoping to see new updates on your layout. I hope all is well with you Roy. You resparked my interest and love for model trains back when you began your layout. Take Care and keep on Railing.
I am building my own UP layout in a 12 by 12 room I have at home and I am using your prototype as my prototype. Its exactly what I want to create, and for the same reasons you have. Thanks for this video and I look forward to future productions!
Roy, you have indeed captured the real feel of this subdivision! You're quite the model artist! And like the real-world subdivision, your N scale version keeps busy with train manifests running down its tracks - a sure sign that a national rail strike has been averted for now. Enjoy the layout, my friend. I certainly do everytime you showcase it here on RUclips. -from Tom Pilling
Tom, thanks so much for your comment. It's always a delight to hear from you. I really do enjoy sharing the progress on my layout with you. Take care, and happy railroading, my friend. ...Roy
It is always good both for builders and watchers to get a really good update on what has been done so far. I have everything I need to achieve this but never had the courage to actually do it. Wish I had done but always too busy actually get it done as I find photography not to my liking. You have done an excellent job Roy. Best wishes, Bob
Thank you, Bob. It's always good to hear from you. I really appreciate your very kind words and wish you full-speed-ahead on any future model railroad videos that you may decide to create. ...Roy
Always enjoy seeing your layout Roy 👍🏼👍🏼 love the back stories and your great scenery. I hear you about making the layouts bullet proof. I’m not fond of getting down and crawling as well 😂
Thanks, Bill. It's always good to hear from you. You are so right: the older we get, the more challenging certain aspects of the hobby become. Like benchwork and under-the-layout wiring. ...Roy
Great video Roy. You are the first channel I started following when I got into model railroading. I have always been impressed by your carving of white styrofoam. It’s messy and not always easy but your mountains look really good. Look forward to seeing your next next project on the layout. Cheers!
Thanks, Dave. Good to hear from you. It's always a pleasure to share the progress on my layout with you and to watch as you continue to work on your layout as well. ...Roy

Very nice model railroad it looks so real,, You work so hard on it, The scenery the,,, The locomotives are just awesome,,, Oh yeah we're Still waiting for that big boy I heard $500 so🫡
Great video Roy with the changes & modifications to the layout. I have been running my Amtrak train on my layout. I will be operating my freight trains in a few day. I will be putting a train under the tree again this year as Christmas is approaching. I have some new Kato track I will be buying as I will be adding more feeder track & wire and expanding and will in the coming year be plannting to build my second level and staging yard. All of my track will be all Kato unitrack.
Welcome back Roy, Your looking great. And you have been missed. I keep you and your wife in my prayers. Hope you have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS 🌲 and a RAILY HAPPY NEW YEAR🚂. Briefly for myself & the family all are healthy and ?Happy?. Number 1 Grandson was promoted to GUNNERY SARGEANT in the MARINES. Semper Fi. At a Halloween party I met a lovely lady from my distant youth. Her name is Colleen. Though I still painfully miss my gorgeous wife, I hope she won't mind my finding someone new. After the first of the year we will travel the updated Orient Express from Istanbul to Paris. (A stop over at Disneyland Paris to ride Le'Disney Express) Then the Chunnel train to London. Finally take the ferry to Ireland. As for the NVR/WAS Railroad, the kids (& grandkids) have successfully burst through the adjoining wall so the train room has slightly more than doubled in size. From 30'D x 28'L to 30'D x 64'L. There remains A LOT of destruction clean up to be dealt with in 2023. Followed by the extension rebuild. To edify the family and friends, this Christmas' Holiday Layout will be a few loops and dog bones in the teens' soon to be game room, climb the MOST DIFFICULT Helix I ever designed and built in 30 years, to a sofett layout in the adults bar room& back. Just finished it Friday. When we get back to N.Y., after St. Patrick's Day🍀, the Gandy Dancers will get back to work on the line that was NEVER/WAS. Truly love seeing and hearing from you. Jim in N.Y.
Hello, Jim. Thanks for your comment. It's always good to hear from you. It sounds like you're keeping busy on your layout, and that's always a good thing. Take care and stay well, my friend, and a very Merry Christmas to you. ...Roy
Even as a long time subscriber, I learned a few things about your layout today. You should be proud, not only of the layout, but of the videos you create. Any one can point and shoot, but weaving a narrative and make a cohesive, coherent video is difficult. Well done Roy! [5:25 I think there might be a small bump in the track work in the approach to the bridge. The engine and some of the rolling stock hops there. Perhaps a bit of judicious file work can smooth it out. Just something my eye caught, and nothing to get too fussed over.]
Thanks so much for your comment, my friend. It's always a delight to hear from you and to share the ongoing progress on my layout with you. You are right about the small bump for 844 just before the bridge. This occurs for 844 because there's a turnout right before the bridge, which isn't visible because of the camera angle, and 844 is very sensitive to turnouts. I will see what I can do about it, because I want all of my locomotive to run very smoothly. ...Roy
@@n-scaleunionpacificevansto6569 Ah, a turnout. Set your playback speed to 0.25, jump to 5:28 and watch closely. The front bogie, wheel furthest from the camera appears to dip, then bounce up. There is a very good chance the back to back on that axle is too small. The wheel there looks like it is dropping into the frog flangeway, as the tread does not span the gap right in front of the frog rails. When it does that, the wheel then rides on the flange in the flangeway at the frog, and then it jumps up and onto the rails when it meets them. NMRA says the Back to Back for N is 7.65 mm. Check with a caliper. Plenty of info on how to set it right online. I am fascinated with the system of turnout geometry. Such a clever system, the subject of early patents
Roy, Great to see you back posting your layout videos. You might want to take a look at WiFiTrax available at Iron Planet Hobbies. It provides a WiFi ability with your NCE system and you will be able to use an iPhone as a controller. I have one on my layout. Merry Christmas 🎄……John
Hi John! Thanks for your comment, and thanks for suggesting WiFiTrax. I'm definitely going to take a look at it today. It's always good to hear from you. ...Roy
Roy, I forgot to mention that if you use the code word “human” that you can get 10% off on anything that you buy. They are a sponsor for Heath at Human(c)ity Junction…..John
@@tanzj John, thanks again for suggesting the WiFiTrax. I've been reading about them on the Internet and am definitely going to order one. One small and perhaps trivial question: Did you get the -30 or the -31 version? ...Roy
Super video Roy. My Kato FEF-3 (844) derails all the time. Any guidance would be appreciated. Also I'm thinking of moving from Canada to Costa Rica, any advice, concerning model railroading? Cheers.
Thanks, Lloyd. I appreciate your comment. I haven't experienced any persistent derailment problems with my 844; however, those little wheels can be a little finicky when trying to put them on the track to begin with. I guess the only intelligent advice I can offer about Costa Rica is: Come down and visit for a few weeks before deciding to make a permanent move. Have you been in contact with any of the model railroaders in Costa Rica?: facebook.com/groups/FerromodelistasCR ...Roy
Awesome video Roy, always love watching these videos when they come out. Really is something nice to look forward to in the morning. I did have one question, will you try to get UP 3985 for your layout? Since she is finally going to be restored to operating condition after 14 years of her being inactive? If or when they release her for n scale?
Hi Trey! Thanks for your comment. I heard that UP 3985 has been put on the back burner, at least for now. I certainly hope they do any renovations that it might need. I've been waiting for the Kato Big Boy. I've heard that it will finally be released in the coming year 2023. ...Roy
Well with the UP donating the UP 3985 to the Railroading Heritage of Midwest America. It will finally be able to be restored to it’s former glory. I can say a lot of people were glad to see the videos of her being moved to Silvis, Illinois last month.
Hi Roy, long time since I have watched your videos. Great to be back and see an old friend. Your looking well. Do you have any plans for Crown Oil? My Favorite part of layout.
i like your layout. i have had some kato uni track but mosynof my steam locos ferail on the poimts/switches have you got any idears why as i s[ent a lot of moneu pn it and van not udr it?
On my N-Scale layout, I have a reversing loop of which loops around through a mine and back out again. At the beginning of this loop I have a right hand switch. The entrance to this loop from the mainline enters from the fixed end. Here is the problem. If I decide to take the right spur to go around the mine then there is no problem. All my engines do just fine with no problems. If I take the left-hand (straight ahead), portion of the switch to go to the mine and if I am running an engine of which has three-axled trucks (such as an EMD), on it there are no problems either. - But. - If I am running my two axle trucked GP-40 then going right (onto the spur), is no problem either. But, if I decide to take the left-hand (straight ahead), and go left into the mine then it immediately jumps the track and derails as it goes over the frog split (the plastic “X” part of the switch). Of all the switches upon my layout, this is the only switch I seem to have trouble with, and only with that GP-40. Short of replacing the whole switch, does anybody know why this happens and why only on that one particular locomotive engine. Or can they even give me a clue as to why this happens and how to cure it? - Just asking.
Well, Tim, as far as I know, there is no model railroading here in Panama outside of my train room. I seem to be the only model railroader in the whole country. There are no train stores, shows, or clubs here, and indeed, everything on my layout has to come in the mail. But I make up for it whenever I travel to the States. ...Roy
I was thinking that was the case. I have been to Panama many times and was considering retirement there. As usual things in life change. I enjoyed my time exploring the Chiriquí Highlands in my younger days. I think it's fantastic you have a great retirement place and room to build your layout. Honestly I buy 75% of my train stuff by mail. The test is from club members, shows and some retail.
Very nice re-introduction to your layout and plans. Can't wait for the regular updates. So glad to see you're back from a break!
Thanks, Tim. It's tons of fun to share the hobby with you. ...Roy

Hi great video very interesting thanks a lot from UK
Great summary of your layout. Speaking of Kato, have you been to their showroom in Tokyo?
Thanks for your comment, my friend. No, I haven't been there although I'm sure it would be great fun. ...Roy
One small and perhaps trivial question: Did you get the -30 or the -31 version? ...Roy
Roy, I have the WFD-30……John
@@tanzj Thanks, John. That's what I will order. I really appreciate your suggestion.
Have you been in contact with any of the model railroaders in Costa Rica?: facebook.com/groups/FerromodelistasCR
...Roy
Thanks Roy, I didn't even know there was a group on FB. I'll brush up on my non-existent Spanish and try it out.
I see North Plate under the bench lol
Hi Roy, long time since I have watched your videos. Great to be back and see an old friend. Your looking well. Do you have any plans for Crown Oil? My Favorite part of layout.
Excellent - Welcome back, Roy. Are your eyes much better now? Your propane industry, the loading section, is that a kit or scratch-built? Thank You
Thanks for your comment, Owen. That industry comes from a kit which I modified greatly as I normally do with kits. ...Roy
@@n-scaleunionpacificevansto6569 Roy, would you share the kit name, please? Looking for something similar?
@@OwenKane Owen, it was the N-Scale Walthers Central Gas and Supply kit: www.walthers.com/central-gas-supply-kit. ...Roy
Owen, here's the link for the N-scale version of this kit: www.walthers.com/central-gas-supply-kit-1a2638
i like your layout. i have had some kato uni track but mosynof my steam locos ferail on the poimts/switches have you got any idears why as i s[ent a lot of moneu pn it and van not udr it?
Thanks, Lee. I appreciate your comment. I haven't had any persistent problems with my Kato Unitrack, so it's a little hard to speculate. ...Roy
👍👌
What is the tightest curve radius you have, in metric units?
Roy, how is the N scale in Panama? Are there any local hobby stores or do you have everything by mail?

Congrats! Thanks for watching. ...Roy
Plus the Kato track is tons lot easier and faster That's flex😵💫🥸 track is a pain in the,,,,,,🥳
Kato track was one of the new things I discovered when I came back to the hobby in 2014, Kevin. What a pleasant surprise it was! ...Roy
