Try using a "paint can lid" from Home Depot as a primer plate BEFORE you fill the stove and pour alcohol around the outside of the vargo. The saturated lid with heat will prime the stove. Make sure to use a wind screen before you light the stove.
On my stoves I supper glue fiberglass cordage to the outside (Liberty Supply 1/8" Wood Stove Door Gasket or Wick Round Fiberglass Rope Seal) splash a little fule on it and it preheats the stove quickly.
You can’t put a pot on that thing until you see large flames coming out of the side. Not small flames, large. Then it will settle down. It woks great when it is running. BUT the Evernew/Lixada / Atiap stoves and the fancy feast can stove are the best in my opinion. Fancy Feast wins in cold weather.
I have a varient of this stove by Vargo and it really sucks; difficult to light and almost impossible to reclaim unused fuel from it. Those who like this stove obviously have never used a Lixada or Toaks Siphon Stove which blooms immediately, are easy to snuff, and can reclaim unused fuel without a problem. Thanks Teach for the video. Hopefully you have deterred others from wasting their money on these pieces of junk!
I hear ya but I am not giving up on the Vargo. I wont be taking it on any camping or hiking trips anytime soon, though. I really do not trust it. I agree that the Siphon stoves are great! Thanks for the comment and watching the video.
This stove is designed to allow the pot to rest on top of the stove. I agree that it may need a gap for more air but getting it to prime is the issue. Thanks for watching the vlog.
I have a “my 3 best alcohol stoves” video on Scooter Trash 60. You are welcome to make a good quality video testing these. I stink at making videos, but I have a bunch of different stoves.
@@ugly.teacher.hiking I had two of those . Threw them both away. Fancy feast stoves are the best ,, of these kind of stoves. The Triangia in my opinion gets the Gold Star for alcohol stoves.

That is a good idea. I may need to try this! Thanks for watching the video.

I was thinking about doing the same. Does the super glue hold up with all the heat? Thanks for watching the video.
@@ugly.teacher.hiking did for me.
@@ugly.teacher.hiking Sorry for the delay, so far no problem.

Patience has to be a virtue for this stove. Once it gets going though it works well. It is too finicky for my liking. Thanks for watching!

Fuel level may be too high. Try filling below flame holes.
And in the dark as mentioned.
Gotcha! May need to try it at different levels. I do not want to give up on it or be defeated by this stove. Thanks for watching!
Remember the fire triangle (heat oxygen and fuel) your suffocating the oxygen that's why it's going out leave a gap underneath and it will be OK

I will check it out! Hopefully I will be doing some more camping videos soon. Thanks for all your support!
Only in the northeast is filming in a park against the law geez, glad I don’t live where people run your life like that
Nature is getting expensive. Thanks for watching the video.
We want to see the flames, a dark environment could be better to make the video.
Agreed, I will try to do a short flame test in a dark area or at night. Thanks for watching.
