I recently bought the cheaper tomshoo (100mm) branded version for roughly half the price from aliexpress, which also comes with a titanium stand. Weirdly the there seems to be a smaller 70mm version, harder to find and twice the price. I find this titanium stove does eat up the fuel compared to my homemade stove, made with a small aluminium “tin” and has a wick, the flame is not as impressive but it boils nearly as quick.

Thank you for sharing! I love alcohol stoves and I also like to bring them on multi day hikes. Therefore I’m more concerned about fuel consumption than boiling time. This stove seems to be a bit greedy? Usually I’m able to boil 500ml with 15 grams of ethanol using either the Trangia burner or an x-boil. Does this stove need considerably more?

    • @ugly.teacher.hiking
      @ugly.teacher.hiking 16 дней назад

I feel it burns hotter than the Trangia and it does take some more fuel but not much more. Thanks for watching and sorry for the late reply.

I use my Lixada siphon alcohol stove, in the Goshawk Ti multi-fuel wood-gas burner Eddy-200 as the stove stand & windscreen, using RUclipsr Mark Young's modified simmer ring & snuffer. Good for alcohol, wood twigs or my fav, hardwood pellets! One cup of hardwood pellets burns for 90mins, 35 mins of active flame 🔥 & 55 mins of useable heat😅

Brother, your 2 cup Wayfare COOKSET is defective. The angle of the handle deployed is too great. Two ways to correct situation- 1.) Return to REI for replacement 2.) Remove handle from set, place handle in a vice with angle in vice and slowly tighten. It will straighten SLIGHTLY (which is all you need) reinsert handle and should now work properly. The melting point of the silicone tab is very high so should not be a problem. The old darker PLASTIC TAB WILL AND HAS MELTED! As usual Enjoyed your video! They are both great and I have used both on many trips. I like the GSI because it is easy to store and the Brew Buddy is just awesome and if it needs to be replaced, it is cheap. What do you do for coffee while camping? Thanks for watching.

@@ugly.teacher.hiking flavor wise, the aeropress is best, but for ease, folgers bags or just green tea. Im more of a motorcycle camper so weight is less of an issue. I have the gsi you have, plus the coffee rocket. You have to get the grind just right for the coffee rocket or it gets too weak or too slow if too fine

An early Good Morning to you from Northern Utah! Needed this! I have the hardest time making a decent cuppa while on a hike. So, approximately how much coffee grounds should you use for an 8 ounce cup of coffee? Never can get it right, either it’s too strong or too weak. Tea, no worries-1 tea bag pour in hot water let it steep for about 3-5 minutes and “it’s fair dinkum!”

The diameter won't give you grief if you turn the circle or cylinder you're measuring 90 degrees so it's level with the screen and jaws on your calipers, if you know what i mean. As in, hold the item so you're looking straight down on the centre of the diameter you're measuring. Holding it this way, you simply close the jaws until they contact the circumference and you're done. More accurate, much faster and easier.

    • @ugly.teacher.hiking

I think you put that stand up pretty quick IMO. I'm liking it by the way too! That's a cool stove too! I like how it locks in place once it's closed up and ready to put away. I have a similar one that's super tiny by BSR and it works pretty great for its size. Those piezo igniter's can be a pain some times and can fail to work all together.. it's hit or miss so I usually have a lighter on hand lol. O’Siyo Oginalii, ( Cherokee for “Greetings Friend”), How’s the poison ivy? Nice little table! Been looking for a new one to add to my gear About the stove, have one of those in one of my sets. Nice thing about the case is that there is enough room in it to add a Bic Lighter in with it (which is a good AND RECOMMENDED thing). For Real and Serious camping I recommend the SOTO Amicus or Windmaster stove. I always have a secondary burner or stove for long range camping or trail running (two is one, one is none) for necessary gear. Remember you usually get what you pay for! Take care! Keep on hiking!

Hey, love getting greetings in other languages. I caught the ivy quick enough and only had it a few days. The table is very stable but set up can be a pain. Like what you said you get what you pay for and always carry a mini Bic lighter. Thanks for the awesome comment and for watching the vlog.

Thanks Teach for the review. Not so sure I'm sold on that lighter. Appears a bit heavy. Was that sound an Aztec Death Whistle at the end of your video?

I kinda agree. It is on the heavy side. L.O.L! It was not a death whistle, just kids cheering. Thanks for watching the video.

It's a great idea, but it work better with something bigger, I mean, all the heat that goes up aroun the pot doesn't really heat it, allways the burner (or flame) must be smaller than de diameter of the pot, like in a gas stove. For a larger pot or frying pan it would work great, the heat will be evenly spread through all the bottom!

Agreed, perfect for a large pan! Thanks for watching the video.

The larger the diameter of the burner the faster the alcohol burns and the more heat it gives off.

The large ones were awesome to make but guzzle fuel. Thanks for watching the video.

IDEA No 1. Cut out the really annoying background music. Thought I was trying to get through to Customer Services ! IDEA No2. Try out your stove with a IKEA type stainless steel cutlery dryer, the one with lots of small round holes in them. I think if you played around with that and a couple of metal pegs/rods you would have a really workable set up. Happy Trails.

The Ikea idea is great. The music was an issue sorry about it. Thanks for still watching!

If you take apart a large binder clip, the stainless-steel part will make a great handle for the Trangia simmer ring/snuffer.

You can also make the fancy feast stove using a soup can, and the candy container full of that wick is perfect. :)

Carbon felt/fiber also makes a great wick for alcohol stoves. :)

Really, I heard the opposite but willing to give it a try. Wonder if they could be used together? Got to love all the different possibilities! Thanks for watching the video.

If you hammer/drill holes on the rim of the burner above the wick it will perform slightly better.

Hmmm... Are you sure this was a failure? Maybe it was for water; But what if you wanted to cook some eggs? Eggs do better at lower temps. With the stove size being bigger, wouldn't there be a little more coverage on a fry pan? You still need a better pot stand! I'd like to see you try eggs...or maybe pancakes. I dunno... 😀

I bet eggs would cook awesome with it. I think a frying pan, with a larger diameter, would work great. Thanks for watchin and the comment.

Weird,, Just put one of those tic collars on my small gorgeous one last week and actually thought of this but I thought it would take up to much fuel, I have a small foldable grill that fits over it perfectly so I was gonna give it a go as I have a shed load of ceramic wool ( and enough smaller tins already made up) but after watching your Vid I don't think I will, thanks for the heads up Amigo, I enjoyed though, I do though agree with the comments, the music was like I was in a Doctors waiting room, just saying.

It is a cool little can to make a stove. Try to make a stove from the can. It is an adventure. As for the music I will be cutting it down. I do not know what happened this time. Live and learn. Thanks for watching.

Excellent video. thanks! I don't understand though, the need for music, however soft, to compete with your narrative. Does RUclips tell content creators that music is needed?

Sorry about the music. It helps to cut down on other things in the background. I will be a little more conscious of it for now on. Thanks for watching.
