Boundless Voyage Alcohol Stove Review UTH #47
I recently bought the cheaper tomshoo (100mm) branded version for roughly half the price from aliexpress, which also comes with a titanium stand. Weirdly the there seems to be a smaller 70mm version, harder to find and twice the price. I find this titanium stove does eat up the fuel compared to my homemade stove, made with a small aluminium “tin” and has a wick, the flame is not as impressive but it boils nearly as quick.
Nice, home made stoves are awesome. I have a few vlogs on ones I had made from candy tins. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for sharing! I love alcohol stoves and I also like to bring them on multi day hikes. Therefore I’m more concerned about fuel consumption than boiling time. This stove seems to be a bit greedy? Usually I’m able to boil 500ml with 15 grams of ethanol using either the Trangia burner or an x-boil. Does this stove need considerably more?
I feel it burns hotter than the Trangia and it does take some more fuel but not much more. Thanks for watching and sorry for the late reply.
I use my Lixada siphon alcohol stove, in the Goshawk Ti multi-fuel wood-gas burner Eddy-200 as the stove stand & windscreen, using RUclipsr Mark Young's modified simmer ring & snuffer. Good for alcohol, wood twigs or my fav, hardwood pellets! One cup of hardwood pellets burns for 90mins, 35 mins of active flame 🔥 & 55 mins of useable heat😅
That is a great idea, thank for sharing. I have to check out Goshawk. Looks like they have some great products. Thanks for watching.
mi' dads got one. i know its secretses. on the the handle the metal tab push towards body of cup that locks it in... its the same as your old model lol
Once used a few more times it seems to lock correctly. Thanks for watching the video.
Brother, your 2 cup Wayfare COOKSET is defective. The angle of the handle deployed is too great. Two ways to correct situation- 1.) Return to REI for replacement 2.) Remove handle from set, place handle in a vice with angle in vice and slowly tighten. It will straighten SLIGHTLY (which is all you need) reinsert handle and should now work properly. The melting point of the silicone tab is very high so should not be a problem. The old darker PLASTIC TAB WILL AND HAS MELTED! As usual Enjoyed your video! ALSO, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BEAUTIFUL WIFE, TINA MARIE- TODAY SEPT 28th (the 36th anniversary of her 29th Birthday - yeah she refuses to get older-yeah Right!)
Happy Birthday Tina Marie! Just like wine we all get better. I may return the Stanley for a replacement. REI has a great return policy. Thanks for watching as usual and tell the wife Happy Bday!
Thanks Teach for the video. Love these Stanley Cook Sets, but as you said, for car camping as they are heavy for backpacking compared to lighter titanium sets.
Definitely a great car camping or glamping item. They are very durable but not for the gram hikers. Toaks would be the way to go. Thanks for watching.
I'd get this for sure! Love it! Thanks for sharing, Teach!
The crazy thing is REI has it for the cheapest price. Let us know if like it and thanks for watching!
Had the original for years and love that I can recommend this version for friends just getting into camping
It is a great set. Perfect for car camping and a couple who camp. Thanks for watching
Toaks makes a tiny titanium cost more takes up less room and is not a copy of trangia
I got one. It really works well. Thanks for watching

Thanks for sharing. Always looking for inexpensive camping items especially knives. Thanks for watching the video.
Спасибо за обзор , то же купил себе такую печку . Отличная печь ! Единственно что мне не нравиться в ней , то что нет крышки - для быстрого тушения огня ...
I wish they had a lid also but I really like the integrated stand for pans and to keep it off the ground. Thanks for the great comment and watching the video.
I have one too. My biggest complaint is that the flame can be 18" to 24" high. Huge fire danger.
What type of fuel do you use? Thanks for watching the video
It makes sense, the smaller diameter would make it filter through more coffee grounds. The gsi is wider so water would be passing through a thinner column of coffee.
They are both great and I have used both on many trips. I like the GSI because it is easy to store and the Brew Buddy is just awesome and if it needs to be replaced, it is cheap. What do you do for coffee while camping? Thanks for watching.
@@ugly.teacher.hiking flavor wise, the aeropress is best, but for ease, folgers bags or just green tea. Im more of a motorcycle camper so weight is less of an issue. I have the gsi you have, plus the coffee rocket. You have to get the grind just right for the coffee rocket or it gets too weak or too slow if too fine
I do enjoy my Aeropress but it is big. I really need to try the coffee in tea bags. Good coffee is a great start to the day.
An early Good Morning to you from Northern Utah! Needed this! I have the hardest time making a decent cuppa while on a hike. So, approximately how much coffee grounds should you use for an 8 ounce cup of coffee? Never can get it right, either it’s too strong or too weak. Tea, no worries-1 tea bag pour in hot water let it steep for about 3-5 minutes and “it’s fair dinkum!”
Good morning! I use one heaping tablespoon for 8 oz of water. Then you may need to dial it in for different coffees and whatever coffee maker you use. It is a challenge. Let us know how it goes? Thanks for watching!
Beautiful scenery
Rhode Island has lots of great trails. Thanks for watching.
Why not just use a jetboil?
That would be better for at the beach especially with all the sand and a little more concealed as well. Great Idea! Thanks for watching the video.
Thanks Teach for the demonstration. I used to use some variation of these white gas pump up stoves exclusively, but now use alcohol stoves for their simplicity.
I hear ya! I love my alcohol stoves. Thanks for the comment and watching the vlog.
Very useful information and review, keep on the good work!!!
Thanks for the kind words and for watching the video.
Thanks Teach for the video.
Thank you for watching and the comment!
Nice peaceful walk. Love the beach!
In the fall, it will be awesome with the leaves changing. Thanks for watching!
This was a fun one! I usually carry my LT Wright Patriot when backpacking. It's a little bit heavier, and the price is a little bit dear (but it is made in the USA!), but its super comfortable and easy to sharpen
That is a cool knife. A little more pricey but looks like a nice size and made in the US! Cannot beat it! Thanks for watching.
Hey Chris, I wasn’t first today cause I was on Amazon trying to buy this BUT can’t find it. Do you have a link?
It is a great little knife. Here is the link from Amazon: a.co/d/hBCdWX7
Thanks for watching as usual. Please let us know how you like it.
I shall see if it's available over here (England) Thanks for sharing. Best regards.
Please let us know if it is there in the UK as well as price! Thanks for watching and the comment!
Love the sound of the waves breaking on the beach. Then again I spent 8 months on a very small island in the South Pacific. 7/10ths of a mile around at waters edge at low tide. (Even smaller than Tom Hanks island in “Castaway”)
Dang, that sounds like a story that needs to be told. Thanks for watching as usual.
Thanks Teach for the review. The wave sounds in the background were nice. That stove may be much more efficient with a way larger pot if you have a lot of water to boil or snow to melt. Not so efficient on that little mug. Buy better coffee!
Any suggestions on coffee? Some have said Black Rifle? I think I need to steep it longer. Thanks for watching as usual and I appreciate the comment.
I ordered the same stand on AliExpress, mine is definitely stainless steel. Like you I thought it was significantly smaller than it is and would not have ordered it had I read the description better.
Mine says it is titanium but…. Thanks for watching the video and the comment!
Hey Chris, so is your email Chris@ugly.teacher.hiking.?
WOW! I MISSED A VIDEO? Okay NOW THE COMMENT ON THE TABLE MAKES SENSE! I still like the table!
You must have been on vacation. L.O.L! Always appreciate your comments. Thanks for watching and it is a great little table. Well worth the money after the learning curve is figured out.
@@ugly.teacher.hiking trying to get your email address. School is/has started back up and I would like to discuss a couple of things with you, possibly helping you out some. I know how things are, my eldest daughter just started her twelfth year teaching 7-8th graders.
The diameter won't give you grief if you turn the circle or cylinder you're measuring 90 degrees so it's level with the screen and jaws on your calipers, if you know what i mean. As in, hold the item so you're looking straight down on the centre of the diameter you're measuring. Holding it this way, you simply close the jaws until they contact the circumference and you're done. More accurate, much faster and easier.
Thanks for the advice. It is so tough to measure while filming and the calipers are not the easiest to use so any advice helps. Thanks for watching and the great comment.
Thanks Teach for the video review. Looks like you are getting more adept at setting up that little table. Probably could use it as a grill too, but would be a bear to clean up. Neat little stove.
The table was a good investment. I had my doubts but turned out great. The stove will do for the price. Thanks for watching and the comment.
I think you put that stand up pretty quick IMO. I'm liking it by the way too! That's a cool stove too! I like how it locks in place once it's closed up and ready to put away. I have a similar one that's super tiny by BSR and it works pretty great for its size. Those piezo igniter's can be a pain some times and can fail to work all together.. it's hit or miss so I usually have a lighter on hand lol. That coffee contraption is awesome..I've never seen one like that before! Nice scenery at the end BTW. Thanks for all the specific and for sharing! Cool video!
Thanks for watching. The table set up is getting easier every time I use it. The stove is good but cheap. I do not know how long it will last. We shall see. Thanks for the great comment.
O’Siyo Oginalii, ( Cherokee for “Greetings Friend”), How’s the poison ivy? Nice little table! Been looking for a new one to add to my gear About the stove, have one of those in one of my sets. Nice thing about the case is that there is enough room in it to add a Bic Lighter in with it (which is a good AND RECOMMENDED thing). For Real and Serious camping I recommend the SOTO Amicus or Windmaster stove. I always have a secondary burner or stove for long range camping or trail running (two is one, one is none) for necessary gear. Remember you usually get what you pay for! Take care! Keep on hiking!
Hey, love getting greetings in other languages. I caught the ivy quick enough and only had it a few days. The table is very stable but set up can be a pain. The more practicing the better I will get quicker. The stove is good for the money. If I needed a long term I would got with your recommendations or an MSR. Like what you said you get what you pay for and always carry a mini Bic lighter. Thanks for the awesome comment and for watching the vlog.
Wow you are good, love the way you explained everything in detail.. I just hit the subscribe button, instant fan...being 56 this is the perfect channel for me...I just bought the Zen...thank you
Wow, thank you. I am glad I could help. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
yep ! I guess I know beach camping coffee . If it does not have sand in it then....Duh? :O)
Sand makes coffee better. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Teach for the video. Don't think I would want to put that table together in subzero temperatures.
Dang I never thought about that but in normal temps it is a great table. Very stable! Thanks as usual for watching the video!
Pretty cool unit once it's put together. Enjoy your coffee! Nice review!
L.O.L! Thanks man! That stand is a pain but one you figure it out, it is not bad. Thanks for watching the vlog.
Thanks Teach for the review. Not so sure I'm sold on that lighter. Appears a bit heavy. Was that sound an Aztec Death Whistle at the end of your video?
I kinda agree. It is on the heavy side. L.O.L! It was not a death whistle, just kids cheering. Thanks for watching the video.
It's a great idea, but it work better with something bigger, I mean, all the heat that goes up aroun the pot doesn't really heat it, allways the burner (or flame) must be smaller than de diameter of the pot, like in a gas stove. For a larger pot or frying pan it would work great, the heat will be evenly spread through all the bottom!
Agreed, perfect for a large pan! Thanks for watching the video.
The larger the diameter of the burner the faster the alcohol burns and the more heat it gives off.
The large ones were awesome to make but guzzle fuel. Thanks for watching the video.
IDEA No 1. Cut out the really annoying background music. Thought I was trying to get through to Customer Services ! IDEA No2. Try out your stove with a IKEA type stainless steel cutlery dryer, the one with lots of small round holes in them. I think if you played around with that and a couple of metal pegs/rods you would have a really workable set up. Happy Trails.
The Ikea idea is great. The music was an issue sorry about it. Thanks for still watching!
If you take apart a large binder clip, the stainless-steel part will make a great handle for the Trangia simmer ring/snuffer.
I like that idea. Thanks for watching and the comment.
You can also make the fancy feast stove using a soup can, and the candy container full of that wick is perfect. :)
Dang, you have had some great ideas! Thanks for the great comments and watching the video!
Carbon felt/fiber also makes a great wick for alcohol stoves. :)
Really, I heard the opposite but willing to give it a try. Wonder if they could be used together? Got to love all the different possibilities! Thanks for watching the video.
If you hammer/drill holes on the rim of the burner above the wick it will perform slightly better.
That is a great idea. Thanks for watching the video.
Guess who got Poison Ivy-SO WE DON’T HAVE TO!!!😮
Poison Ivy plants were everywhere. I only got a little but that was enough. Thanks for watching.
@@ugly.teacher.hiking Always watching!I don’t think that I’ve missed a single video. My eldest daughter is a History teacher here in Utah and has been teaching for 12 years. Yeah, I’m an OLD Guy. Keep up the good work and if I can be of any assistance,Please let me know. Respectfully, Bob StrongBear
Oh yeah, BTW That music!
I am goin to work on that. Thanks for watchin and the comments.
Hmmm... Are you sure this was a failure? Maybe it was for water; But what if you wanted to cook some eggs? Eggs do better at lower temps. With the stove size being bigger, wouldn't there be a little more coverage on a fry pan? You still need a better pot stand! I'd like to see you try eggs...or maybe pancakes. I dunno... 😀
I bet eggs would cook awesome with it. I think a frying pan, with a larger diameter, would work great. Thanks for watchin and the comment.
Don't quit your day job.
Sorry you did not like the content but thanks for at least checking it out.
Weird,, Just put one of those tic collars on my small gorgeous one last week and actually thought of this but I thought it would take up to much fuel, I have a small foldable grill that fits over it perfectly so I was gonna give it a go as I have a shed load of ceramic wool ( and enough smaller tins already made up) but after watching your Vid I don't think I will, thanks for the heads up Amigo, I enjoyed though, I do though agree with the comments, the music was like I was in a Doctors waiting room, just saying.
It is a cool little can to make a stove. Try to make a stove from the can. It is an adventure. As for the music I will be cutting it down. I do not know what happened this time. Live and learn. Thanks for watching.
Excellent video. thanks! I don't understand though, the need for music, however soft, to compete with your narrative. Does RUclips tell content creators that music is needed?
Sorry about the music. It helps to cut down on other things in the background. I will be a little more conscious of it for now on. Thanks for watching.
