  • Day 3 of Siege Animantarax painting. I learnt from my time with the Desert Hydra that if I focused on doing one paint at a time on the entire body, I would very easily burn out and lose interest in actually painting the mini.
Instead I decided to see if I could pick a section of the mini and basically finish it completely. In this case I took the left side 'carriage' area, focusing on finishing the golds, steels, reds and jewels. Overall I think as you can see by the end of the videeo, the result has come out well. I experimented a bit here and there but overall my process was below:
Note, there is small gap of 15-20 second in between where nothing happens - this is mostly to let the washes dry.
    For Red section-
    1) Basecoat the tan areas with Molten Bronze
    2) Basecoat the grey areas with Pig Iron
    3) Layer on some Skorne Red onto the red insides
    4) Highlight on Khador Red
    5) Highlight on Bloody Red (Vallejo)
    6) Final highlight with Citadel Wild Rider Red
    7) Glaze with Citadel Bloodletter
    8) Re-highlight very lightly with wild rider red
    9) Final very light application of Vallejo red ink. It is most likely I may skip steps 7 and 8 with the other side since the red ink saturates it sufficiently anyway.
For the metallics I did the following:
    1) Apply Seraphim Sepia on the bronze
    2) Apply Agrax Earthshade on the bronze
    3) Highlight upper areas of bronze with rhulic gold
    4) highlight extreme upper areas with solid gold
    5) Wash steel with nuln oil
    6) Highlight / very, very dry lightbrush with Cold steel
    7) Highlight / very, very dry lightbrush with Quick Silver
For the 'gems', I basically did metallics first, followed by the Citadel Technical Waystone Green, which is basically a gemstone paint that does it's job fantastically. After that, a bit of corrections and it comes out looking great!
The music is from Rimworld OST.
