The tray she is using with the picks is the worse type to use. She's also using slightly too much pressure. If patient has discomfort and jumps, you should stop and ask patient if they need a moment, the you start again but not to fast.

I went to an allergist here in the middle of Nowhere, WI. I've been Dx'd w/ Sle (lupus) since 1989, & strep type_b since 1994. I KNOW i have multiple drug allergies, +latex, +food. When I was prepped for the tests they omitted telling me to stop my steroids. Lo & behold, they said I had 0 allergies. When my GP called 2 months later to ask for the details of my tests, they told her I had never been there, had no record of me. ☠️🙈🙉🙊
Def shady unfortunately I've had a lot of bad run ins here in Alabama (grew up in SC lived there my whole life until 3 years ago) but the medical system here is screwed. I even sat at a pediatrician office to sign my kids up to start going there when we moved my youngest son was 2 months old I sat in that office for a hour filling out paperwork giving them copy of my kids card's, ID SS# all of that. The worse part for me wasn't getting 57 shots in total in one go on my back when I had my allergy test done. It was having to stay off of Atarax for two weeks straight because Atarax is in the same class of drugs as antihistamines.
She has to do it fast since the tiny plastic hurts and they usually ask would u rather do it fast or slow. Plus all the reactions need to happen around the same time.
I had this done back in the 80s. I was miserable when it was done. I remember my dad had it done in the early 70s and I didn't recognize him when my mom brought him home. Not sure why they let him leave with his face that swollen, other than the fact my mom was a nurse and could give him an injection if needed. It is no fun and should probably be done in stages, not all at once.
When I did my allergy test it tickled more than it hurt 😂 the doctor could barely write on my back or poke me with the needle because I kept laughing despite feeling super sick 💀
I've had every allergy test suite, most multiple times, as a child lol. Only once did they do the whole pad at once Also wondering why these are going on the back instead of the arms, I've only had patch tests go on the back...all the skin pricks were always forearms, and the needles always upper arms.... at least that's how it was explained to me - as the site that goes along with each type of test
i only had them going in the back but it hurt so bad bc i was allergic (4+++ rating) to every single thing they tested, but they used a big comb looking thing
I had them on my forearm but I wasn't having a massive screen of allergens done, I think it was about twenty? It's over fifteen years ago now! However, my mum had a massive panel of them done across her back. I think maybe it depends on the quantity needed?
@@k9usuri They would scratch each spot 3-4 times. It was described to me like it was just a small “cat scratch”. We were mauled. It was never as fast as it was in the video. But the worst was my body’s reaction to the horse 1. That overpowered all the rest of the scratches that day. So I had to have it done a 2nd time.
Is there any reason why they are doing them on the back rather than the forearms? Is it to make scratching harder? I thought the forearm would be more conventional since it is easy to administer epinephrine that way. Huh. The more you know!
I remember back when I was a kid they didn't just scratch it along your skin they clipped the skin so you'd bleed and they'd watch for the blood bubbling. No lie, that was also the time I had a bad sunburn on my back so they had to do it on my arms. Worst allergy test to date. (Yes, I had many).
I had this done in highschool because my mom never believed me that I had allergies. Out of the 50 things they tested me for I am NOT allergic to nuts or shell fish, but everything else was level 4 they told me (scale is 0-4). Best "I told you so" ever!!😂
4 years in and still haven’t had a skin test…. Only got a face to face because I drove the 3 1/2 hours and went in to tell them to make it a face to face…. And that’s after 4 months of unanswered phone calls I gave up calling. Because they only work one day a fudging mouth!!! . At lest it was/is all free in VIC Australia. In WA apparently you have to pay for the appointments.
I, personally, hate skin tests. I had a few when I was super young, and it was miserable. But also the doctor sucked. Refused to diagnose my airborne allergy because he had never diagnosed one because he didn't believe in them. Also dragged a pen down my arm to test sensitivity so hard it nearly drew blood. Bro sucked and I will never do anything but a blood test
What does it mean when someone has next to no reaction to the histamine that is the control? Because that was me and I still don't know what I am allergic to, they did the standard tests and blood work but I didn't have any huge visual reaction but I was so itchy that I had a hard time trying to not scratch at where they poked me. I KNOW I am allergic to SOMETHING as people usually don't break out in welts on their back and sides for no reason.
16 years ago when I had one done they had 3x5 prong sets and fit all of them all on my forearms. Drew a circle on one that was the control histamine, and they knew what everything was from that
This is what my 1st test was like when I was 11. Torture! Had to do it again at 15 and they used injections. After the first tray, I started feeling like I was going to pass out. 😭 I was so glad my kiddo only had to have one blood draw.
or you can just pull some blood and test it all my allergies are so severe to bee stings that they didn't even want to do allergy testing on my skin they pulled my blood and tested it that way and I was the most allergic you could be to bees and I have other allergies to Venom too but not as severe
I thought the EXACT same thing. Like my office had those and they were in fact done in fifteen seconds. Why stab someone over and over and over and over one by one?

Gloves are not necessary when placing skin test. You don't tell the patient to hold still, people have natural response to poking the skin.

No gloves? Universal precautions..
If a needle is not involved then gloves are generally not necessary. Good hand hygiene is recommended, however.

I had an allergy test done for the first time a few years ago and it was how you did it at the end and sooooo easy! 😅
Why do we even do these anymore when they are so uncomfortable and blood tests are available??
Because blood tests are very inaccurate and the chance of getting a false positive is very high
@@zadearrizabalaga6549 The prick tests are also inaccurate as the skin and digestive system react differently.
@@crystald3655 yes but the prick’s usually test for environmental allergies

Because the skin test is testing a different allergen reaction than blood testing.
