I think Brina's voice was the best. It resembles the original Japanese voice the most and fits the I-am-just-a-clone-with-no-feelings concept the best (with the depressing undertone)
She doesn't have that repressed voice that struggles to come out like Amanda does, in fact amanda is the only one out of the lot that nails that part, even megumi isn't quite as good. The other english just speak low and hushed and think that's enough. Too bad amanda sounds too old now
I honestly think all the actors turned in really good performances. Also, it's hilarious to look at this scene between the two versions and realize that basically the only difference is that the old version covered Rei's mouth to save on animation costs.

Of-course I might be biased since Amazon's rebuilds were my intro to Eva, but I cannot imagine watching it differently. Other VA's, while good are a bit generic. They could pass as many characters, but Amanda is the true Ayanami!

The scene in Rebuild 2.0 when the fight Zeruel... she was just the wrong person or using the wrong performance there. i kinda cringed. When I heard it, I tried as hard as I could to find a Funimation copy of 3.0 once I saw it got yanked, since I didn't have it (lost my job when it came out).
I appreciate that they got Amanda Winn-Lee back in the Amazon dub, but like with Allison Keith-Shipp I feel like her age is definitely showing; her voice sounds a lot more whispery now than it used to.

I think the whispering voice became a deliberate choice after the second half of the OG series imo, new dub Rei really didn't feel out of place for me because she's always sounded like that

The prime dub is just not the wave…. All voices were pretty similar in this case to me. But I probably am partial to the Rebuild dub because with saw that one in dub a lot. Only watched the original anime on TV and when I watched it through completely I watched it in sub probably like most people. I really like the new Netflix dub tho compared to the other dubs.

ADV Amanda Winn Lee sounds the best to me. I think she was able to thread that needled between whispery and mysterious but also a person the best out of this list. I think Lee went too soft for the Rebuilds, but it has been decades since she played Rei.
Dear god Amazon Rei sounds like a chain smoker. Yeah, as great as it is to hear Amanda again, her voice is way too old and rusty. She’s clearly trying her best but it’s just been too long. It honestly sounds like half the cast were just tired and wanted to get this over with. Especially Tiffany Grant who doesn’t have any of the same ferocity or weight she had in the Funimation version. It’s literally the same performance she gave in the Funimation version but with less enthusiasm. Honestly re dubbing these movies was just pointless to me. We already have the Funimation versions that already brought back most of the ADV cast, so this all just feels pointless. I respect Amazon for getting most if not all of the ADV crew for these movies, but they’ve honestly just gotten rusty at this point.
Only three ADV cast members reprised their role in the Funimation dub though. (Unless you wanna count John Swasey who also portrayed Gendo in the ADV director's cut episodes) And honestly I don't know why they didn't have voice actors like Monica Rial and Greg Ayres reprise their director's cut roles when they were in the dub.

The netflix one iirc was almost a 1 to 1 translation of the Japanese script with little to no localization
