We recorded this Venezuelan Waltz in Miami Beach in 2008
• Antonio Lauro: El Mara... but because of the noise around us (wind, speedboats, water and airplanes), I had to play it at home and mix the sound with the video in post. I don't feel comfortable with those "playback" recordings so I always wanted to re-record it "live" and in real time. I finally did so last Friday after finishing classes. It's not prefect but now I can let it rest.
The great Venezuelan composer Antonio Lauro (1917 - 1986) lived in Maracaibo for some time and El Marabino (a more common term is maracucho) refers to a native of Maracaibo, an important city in Venezuela.
Dedicado a todos los Marabinos en el día de la Chinita.

I came across this song in a home-movie montage featuring Rita Payes and family and friends (which is fabulous, as are Rita and her mother Elizabeth Roma), and I've seen and heard at least a few versions of it....but NOW it makes sense! I think there were typos in some sheet music versions out there, (or at least some interesting choicesas well as some head-scratching fingerings...

lets you play the video in slow motion, so that it's possible to see your quick movements around the fingerboard, in slow motion. Your video is a great help. (Someone should make a good instruction video about this piece.) Thank you for this inspirational video of the piece. :-)
