Beautiful Rohan! I don't know what part of the creek you fished but around Koondrook below the weir bit there is not so much weed and I caught many more fish! That was on worms mind you. My other half tin arsed a legal sized cod too out of season a few moons ago....they are there just the old right time right place right bait right weather blah blah blah!
Thanks Les! I won't say what area I was at or I'll get shot by the locals haha. I might check out Koondrook next time I drive over, thanks for the tip! Haha yeah right day, right time, right facial expression, etc LOL
Nice yellow belly! Stinks the second one come off. Have you ever tried using soft plastics? In water that dark I think a black and blue creature bait would do great.
Thanks mate! I often use soft plastics for smaller fish like perch or trout but rarely for larger fish. I think a weedless plastic would do really well there though
Thanks John! Oh yeah I agree 100%, something about that lure really fires the yellas up! I might have to troll it in Lake Eppalock around the trees hehe
I grew up on that piece of water. It was once a fantastic cod haven. Unfortunately Goulburn Murray water have ruined it with too many weirs and dropped its flow to trickle, Hence the weed. Can still get a good cod now and then tho...
Ah ok it was my first time there, but the fish surveyors reckon there's a good population of big cod in there, my friend Beck got one last year measuring 110cm! I wish I found one like that instead of the little yella hahaha
Yeah there still in there, my pb is 27lbs on a rod on the gunny. Try a boiled egg on a drift line with a coke bottle float about 3 feet off the bait. Works best overnight. Tie your rod in too, or it’ll be gone in the morning.
@@RKJFishing Yeah, around Koondrook, it's all thru red gum FORREST! Much more shaded and clearer of weed etc! (Tho there's certainly some GOOD spots around Gunbower & Cohuna!)
Yeah very true, if I knew the weeds were that bad I would have setup a few weedless rigs and lures in advance haha! Oh well I'll be prepared next time I go there.
Thanks heaps Robbie. I learned quite a bit from the trip over there, and I reckon next time I'll have a good plan on how to target the structure more effectively
Thanks heaps Paul! The locals I spoke to seemed to think it was a flush that brought the weed through in the first place haha. I'm no expert on those kind of things though. The fish seem to like it once you can find them haha
What ive found out with fishing in weeds is spinnerbaits or mumbleds and go on the weeds and either cast just outside the weeds or let them sink down next to longs right up against the bank where theres not alot of weeds
Hey mate. I ve fished the creek for years and the best for when it is weedy is probably a spinner bait were you cast it beside the weed best and into the structure. It is a also right at my back door!
Thanks so much Paul! I'm not sure about the yabbies mate but the channels in the area look like they would hold a good population of yabbies, however I don't think you will have much luck catching them in Winter. Good luck next month mate!
Hey mate, nice yella! Fish this creek nearly every day and I can tell you there’s a lot more cod in there then yellas! Would be more than happy to show you some good spots to flick lures and catch some cod
Thanks heaps Kyle! Yeah I had heard about the healthy cod population, that's the main reason I went over to give it a crack haha. I'll definitely head over that way again, maybe next season in a different stretch with less weeds lol
Hello Rohan, that's one waterway I've never fished, looks like there's not too much structure for fish to take shelter, the yellow belly almost jumped in your kayak mate, I reckon if you lifted the lure up it would have 🤣🤣.. Take care mate 👍🍻🇦🇺
Gunny creek has been hit and miss for me this year. But any time the weather starts to turn or it’s raining I’ve done really well at the regulators/weirs. Minimal weed there
Well done on the yella Rohan! That’s always in the back of my mind aswell mate “I hope I don’t fall in and loose this GoPro” Or when I’m riding to my spots I’m always thinking “is that sd card still in my computer?” “Please tell me I haven’t forgot that” haha lol ripper video

Nice stretch of water Rohan. Glad your getting some use out of the GoPro lanyard 😂
haha cheers Starks! Thanks again for that mate
New water and a lovely yellow that's a win..well done mate that water looks like it can hold a huge beast
Thanks so much Shamus. A friend of mine caught a 110cm cod there last year lol
@@RKJFishing Odin's beard lol that's awesome

great vid mate keep up the great work
Thanks so much mate
Very nice shots and great nature. best regards ronactive
Many thanks!
nice video i think that lure is a yellow belly special
Thanks John! Oh yeah I agree 100%, something about that lure really fires the yellas up! I might have to troll it in Lake Eppalock around the trees hehe
Awesome yella
Cheers Peter!
I used to fish Gunbower Creek when I was a thirteen year old with my Uncle Bob we used to catch Redfin, tench and yellow belly

Kayak setup looks good!
Thanks man!
LOVE the old Gunbower! WERE you fishing around Cohuna? I think it's better closer down to Koondrook, to its mouth in the Murray there!
Yeah mate I was in that area. I'll have to try over near Koondrook next time, I've had a few people tell me that now. Thanks for the view and the tip!
@@RKJFishing Yeah, around Koondrook, it's all thru red gum FORREST! Much more shaded and clearer of weed etc!

hello my friend good fishing place
Thanks
A Hella Yella for a grat fella in a bote with no propeller!
hahaha nice rhymes man! Cheers!
H20 kayakes are also made in wangarrata.
Yep they sure are!
@@RKJFishing with the weeds you can always use a zerek flat shad or a weedless lure
Yeah very true, if I knew the weeds were that bad I would have setup a few weedless rigs and lures in advance haha! Oh well I'll be prepared next time I go there.
Looks like challenging water to fish mate. Ripper yellowbelly. 👍👍
Thanks heaps Robbie. I learned quite a bit from the trip over there, and I reckon next time I'll have a good plan on how to target the structure more effectively
great vid mate and i brought one of these kayaks after watching you and robbie cant wait to use it
Thanks Jason! That's awesome mate, you're going to have lots of fun in that
Great catch mate well done
Thanks heaps Jaron!
Hey mate just a question what programs do you use to edit your vids ? Thanks in advance..Nice yella by the way.👍
Thanks Phil! I usually use Adobe Premiere Pro for most of my editing
Such a cool session. Thanks for sharing awesome spot. Perfect Example of a Golden Perch. Nice Work RKJ.
Thanks so much mate
That's a nice yellowbelly there, I think that creek looks like it could do with a good flush.
Thanks heaps Paul! The locals I spoke to seemed to think it was a flush that brought the weed through in the first place haha. I'm no expert on those kind of things though. The fish seem to like it once you can find them haha
Yessssss waiting for this
Hope you enjoy it mate
Friendly locals ....... Nice fish Rohan, it's always a bit tough fishing a new area.
Thanks heaps Frank

Ah ok that makes sense, thanks for the tip! You're very lucky to live right next to the creek, I probably paddled past your house lol
Hey mate how have you been this week?
Good thanks mate!
Noice!
A nother vid 😊😊😊😊😀😃🎣🎣🎣🐟🐟🐟🎣🐠
Thanks Cooper!
Great informative video, going there next month, hopefully catch a few, is there any yabbies up there?

Keep casting where did I hear that before. LOL.
Hahaha! I remember a wise man said it quite a lot lol

Keep up the good work mate just keep tryin im not a fan of spinner baits but the single arm blade might work prity well in those conditions👍
I'm usually not a fan of them either but I can see that they might be useful in that situation for sure!

ah ok nice, thanks for the tip Simon!
What size old mate lure
The original sized one, I'm not sure what it's called sorry
@@RKJFishing 85mm?
What a great day on the river. Looks like hard conditions
Cheers Julian, yeah it was pretty tough going but apparently it's not always like that. I'll have to revisit next season
Doubt you could have trolled for very long before you'd be pulling in salads 😁 nice yella though pitty about the brain pain...
haha very true! Thanks so much mate, yeah migraines are the worst!
Awesome yellow belly well done , I'm opposite I get a migraine when I'm at home with the wife 😁 not when I'm fishing 👍
Hahahaha! Thanks heaps mate
you are probably worth more than the go pro Rohan, im guessing anyway :P
Haha that's a good point John! I'm a pretty good swimmer though I'm not really worried about myself if I fall in lol
That was a nice yellowbelly and you'd have plenty of salad to go with it if you wanted to do a catch and cook!
Haha I can only imagine how horrible that salad would taste LOL! Thanks heaps mate
well done buddy, the guys in the tinny could have backed the power of a bit for you,no harm done. hope you are feeling better.
Haha yeah they could have but I don't think they really cared lol. Thanks Billy, yeah I'm feeling heaps better mate cheers
In weeds like that I like tho fish the weed edge with a spinner bait so I can control how deep it goes
I can see how that would be beneficial, I might try that next time I'm there
Well done on the yella Rohan! That’s always in the back of my mind aswell mate “I hope I don’t fall in and loose this GoPro”

Thanks Adrian! Haha I haven't managed to forget my SD card yet, but I'm sure now that you've mentioned it I'll end up doing it LOL!
