One of the best suggestions I've heard is that the Orlando basketball team should be called the Humidity. That way, when Florida professional basketball isn't going well, they could say, "It's not the Heat, it's the Humidity."
I-4 used to go all the way to St. Petersburg. I-75 went to the I-4 junction in Tampa and ended there. In the 70's they changed I-4 West of the I-4/I-75 junction to St. Petersburg to I-75. Then in the 80's they rerouted I-75 on a new section, bypassing Tampa and changed the portion that goes thru Tampa, St. Petersburg and Bradenton to I-275, which is where we are today.
Memories of driving I-4 from Orlando airport to Lakeland in my "free upgrade" Nissan Rogue Sport rental (4 years old with 60k miles) on a sunny February afternoon and the absolute frustration of the digital climate controls not having a setting to turn the heat/ac off and having to settle for matching the external temperature and chasing every 1degF variation...and that was before learning the electric parking brake would sometimes randomly not want to let go. Surprisingly, a good amount of us in Central FL are pretty familiar with all the Toll Roads, even with all the different numbers. We normally just call them by their names (like 417 being the Greenway, and 528 being the Beachline). Great to see a video of my somewhat local interstate!
The old name for 528 used to be called the Beeline Expressway. I hate the new name. Beeline just flowed off the tongue. The newer name just sounds harsh. Just because it goes from Orlando to the beaches in East central Florida, doesn't mean the name had to be changed. I refuse to call it by it's new name. I'll stick with 528 or call it Beeline. I miss the bee symbol on the signs for the Beeline Expressway.
I-4 is definitely one road that I’ve driven through all of the time throughout my childhood and even now since we would take this road to visit my grandma in Winter Haven. There are plenty of exits along the interstate that I could go on all day explaining why certain exits are important to me! It was really a home away from home for me! Also liked that you showed the Mickey Mouse power grid as I’d point it out all of the time whenever we would pass by it on my way to my grandma’s!
Can definitely tell US 92 was the predecessor to I-4. It follows basically the same route and they cross ways 5 times directly and even more I-4 exist that refer "TO US 92" Great redo, definitely needed.
The reason the Orlando (and much of the Florida) toll roads have 3 digits, is that much of the 1 or 2 digit designations in the grid have been taken already.
For the Garden State Parkway, make sure you follow the surface roads all the way down to Sunset Beach - they have a flashing light at the end of the road because if you get highway hypnosis on the GSP, you *will* drive into the ocean there.
US Route 1 is what i am waiting for. Bring it on. I also got another one for you I-476 Blue Route/Northeast Extension i think you could tolerate this Pennsylvania route. I think its signed decently 😅😂
I think Ive been on the duration of I 4. My parents and I made a trip to Clearwater in the mid 70s, stopping at Disney World on the way. We had family that had recently moved to Clearwater from New Hampshire. Later years I made stops to visit Disney World again, as well as Ocoee (family) and later on Tampa (family). Its been about 20 years since I last dipped my toes in Florida and I 4, so I dont know how much has changed over the years.
Got here right after the video came up! Was just checking the channel, and there it was, uploaded 6 minutes ago! Great video, by the way. Way better than the original.
Orange blossom trail is so bad that John Young parkway (the route that parallels it on the way to Kissimmee), which already has way too much traffic and horrible light timings is somehow a better option. Not to mention going through some very ghetto areas…
If you’ll allow me to defend “Naples” on I-75, since the whole gulf coast is essentially one massive sprawl, signing the end of it at Naples lets you know that you can get to any of the sprawl between Tampa and Naples. If they went strictly by population they would have to sign Cape Coral, which is really just a massive chunk of the sprawl rather than a city.
A Michigander who's made a few trips to Florida, Fort Myers is more recognizable than Naples or Cape Coral, regardless of which has the greater population.
Fort Myers wouldn’t be a terrible control city pick, but it’d be a similar situation to Waco, TX in which you have a mid-sized metro area sandwiched between two massive metro areas (Austin and DFW in the case of Waco, Tampa and Miami in the case of Fort Myers)
Great stuff as always! I think this is the first time I've heard the term "stroad" in one of your videos-very appropriately in Florida. Good luck finding control cities on the GSP 🙂
Thanks! It’s awesome that you love US 52. It’s a great road! I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with it. A US 52 “exit” request: Just about 5 miles Southeast of Ironton, OH, US 52 has an “interchange” with the twin bridges immediately crossing over the Ohio River into downtown Ashland, KY. The configuration of the “interchange” is interesting: US 52 is tightly jammed up against the hills bordering the river, so there isn’t enough room for a traditional interchange. The twin one-way bridges are also interesting: one is painted green, the other blue, after the official “municipal colors” Ashland uses on its logo.
I think this is probably one of the few times that The Way It Should Be is “The Way It Is”. I think some signs on I-4 (or leading to it) list Disney World as a primary control.
So awesome to see I-4 redone the first video was pretty lacking. I just moved to Sanford too I am training at the Sanford airport you mentioned briefly and live just off of the 417/429 interchange on that 46A exit
Hey, @Control City Freak. For US 52, can you please show Exit 145, for Ohio St. Route 823 North? OH 823 is also a pretty byway around Portsmouth, with lots of hilly terrain.
I personally don't think you should delete your old I-4 video, I think you should leave it up just to show people how far your channel has come in production value and quality, and also to show them what the genesis of CCF is like, regardless of value or quality. lol That's just me though, you can do whatever you want with it. Either way, great video Todd! :) 👍
Poor Todd would go mad just trying to deal with all of the toll roads in Orlando! :) Tips to navigating Orlando roads: 1. If you want to get somewhere FAST, you’re going to pay through the nose on the toll roads which are rarely if ever congested. 2. If you want to get somewhere relatively CHEAP, it will take forever avoiding the toll roads and hitting stoplights that are rarely synchronised (except for that one time in the early 90s when they put a new computer in to control all the stop lights which promptly turned every one of them RED resulting in massive gridlock all over the city!). Never was I so happy to be at UCF in Greater Metropolitan Bithlo and hell and gone from that madness. 3. If you value your life, you will never drive I-4 anywhere close to rush hour (which includes when the Disney and Universal parks close late at night). Locals call it the “I-4 Parking Lot” for a reason! ;) And remember what former Magic GM Pat Williams had to say of Orlando: “Were it not for the bowling alleys, this place would have no culture at all!” :)
Ocala and its metro area are pretty big and growing, especially in the Villages. Atlanta might work with these signs too, but that is pretty far. OTOH, I-75 has signs for Tampa in the Atlanta area.
@necroslair Gainesville (141.000) and home of University of Florida is a far superior control city than Ocala (64.000) I understand why Ocala is signed on FL Turnpike for it's terminus near Ocala. But other than that Ocala has no business in being a control city on I-75 and I-275. No offense to Ocala but just compared to Gainesville, which is also fairly close to I-10, it's just a far better fit.
FL400 is the state designation for I-4. Headed east the FL400 designation continues to US1 as Beville Rd. Fun fact: the original bridges for I-4 over the St Johns River were rumored to be haunted.
I have driven all over Route 11 or us 11 Mainly from South virginia all the way up Close to Carlisle, Pennsylvania. It runs through here where I live in Winchester Virginia. So does US 50 Or route 50. Also US 522 does 2. Also, Winchester is the North terminus of US17. Or route 17.A lot of different US highways run through Winchester.

@Todd - you say you don't understand why Florida doesn't use lower numbers for state roads. The answer is quite easy. The state uses the exact same formula that US highways do. FL 2 is in far North Florida and A1A (SR 1) runs along the Atlantic coast. The numbers go higher going south and west from the NE corner of FL. Two digit roads have all been used up and they were meant to be much longer roads, either coast to coast (roads that end in zero or 5) or longer distances in general. The three digit numbers are ones that fit in the middle between the larger ones. For instance there are several major east west roads in Broward County - SRs 810, 814, 816, 818, and 820. Respectively, those are known locally as Hillsboro Blvd, Atlantic Blvd, Sunrise Blvd, Griffin Rd, and Pines/Hollywood Blvd. SR 812 is in Belle Glade and fits in the system geographically, but also may have been assigned first. They are simply shorter roads.
They waste a whole lot of 2 digit numbers with internal state designations of US and Interstate highways. Why secretly number US 1 as State Route 5 when it already has a number, and 5 would be a fine number to give to a different road?
@@ControlCityFreak - every state does this. The road is actually owned by the state, supplemented with federal financing. Because of that, there has to be at least a hidden state designation for accounting purposes.
I was planning on just skipping my observations along this highway, but changed my mind. During my 2024 summer road trip, I clinched this entire route eastbound except for the portion west of I 75 in Tampa proper. Orlando is the primary as of the turbine interchange with 75, and afterwards it is Daytona Beach. I suppose I’m fine with Daytona Beach after Orlando, even if Deltona (right outside of the northernmost suburbs of Orlando) is bigger (and then there’s Palm Coast to the north of Daytona Beach being the largest city in the metro, but I’ll save that discussion for when I post my observations on I 95 northbound). I’m probably a broken record at this point, but I don’t like how Lakeland gets completely ignored. Others have commented that along 75 south of Tampa, there should be signage for Fort Myers before Naples, and I agree. But here’s a tidbit of information that may be shocking: every New Year, World Population Review updates population estimates, and I use their county estimates to figure out how big certain metro areas are. As of 2024, Polk County (Lakeland Metro) is actually slightly bigger than Lee County (Cape Coral/Fort Myers Metro)! How does one advocate for Fort Myers (again, it’s more than large enough to deserve such advocation), but not Lakeland?
This Highway deserved a reboot coming how far you’ve come since May 2021. Great Video as always! Also, is there a specific Intersection that you would like to see in my US 52 video?
I 4 hidden State route 400. I 10 State route 8, I 75 SR 93 SR 93 A Tampa Bypass, I 275 SR 93, I 95 SR 9. Most Florida Interstates are a minimum 6 Lanes with I 10 6 Lanes only in the Tallahassee and Pensacola, Jacksonville areas. Strangely I 295 in Jacksonville still has 4 Lanes sections. Florida State Route grid similar to the Interstate system. Lower Numbers East and North with Higher Numbers West and South. US number Highway are hidden State routes Example US 19 is State Route 55. Most toll routes are 3 digits with SR 21 First coast expressway being the exception. Best way thru Orlando is the Tolled express lanes.. The Universal- Disney World area is always a Traffic nightmare. Usually all the way to US 27. I Remember Boardwalk and Baseball, Royals Spring Training. Now a shopping area. US 52 and US 220 the odd balls going North South. Have a good one Todd. Glad you were able to get to Limon.
The Florida grid is similar to the US highway grid, which presented a problem for having state route 1. In the Florida grid, SR 1 would run along Florida's Atlantic coast. But, US 1 is nearby, which would cause confusion. So they decided to call it SR A1A. By the way, US 1 is also SR 5.
I don’t have an issue with it either, but with Gainesville being right up the road as a big college town and an even bigger population than Ocala, I can see why Todd could have an issue with it being signed
Ocala is a control city because even though the city itself is smaller than Gainesville it’s the most populous Florida metro area north of Tampa and Orlando. For comparison the Ocala metro is slightly smaller than places like Savannah, Mobile and bigger than places like Shreveport, Tallahassee. Back in the 80s northbound was signed “Thru Traffic” at least we get Ocala now. Headed south Naples was once the end of I-75, it ends in Miami now but Naples is still used both north and southbound. 👍 👍
As I posted on another video (I-75 I think), Ocala was once home to Six Gun Territory (One of Florida's most popular them parks prior to Disney). I believe it closed down in the early 80s. Ocala being a control city may be a left over from that or for still existing destinations such as Silver Springs and Ocala National Forest.
@@georgeberry3832 I’ve driven from Florida to Texas more times than I can count and remember back in the 80s I-75 and I-275 were signed as Thru Traffic or nothing and the Florida Turnpike alternated between Wildwood and nothing at all on the signage. The mileage signs were a bit of a mess. As the highways were widened and the signs replaced, Ocala became the standard control city, but this was relatively recent. After Ocala it’s Gainesville then Lake City on the mileage signs but there’s no major freeway junction w/I-75 so no overhead signs on I-75. At I-10 Valdosta is on the overheads.
Heh, you'll go insane trying to cover US 6, because it's the longest road within Pennsylvania's borders, and that is the state it has its second highest amount of mileage in overall behind none other than Colorado. I'll be looking forward to that though LOL
I would like Exit 82-82A on the Garden State Parkway going northbound to show that it’s the only exit on the Parkway that doesn’t use an A-B format. They’ve fixed other exits like this, but left this one alone. Doesn’t make sense to me. Another US route that you should do is 33 since it’s odd numbered and runs east-west most of it’s route. Kind of like how US 52 is
OBT sucks. I lived in Orlando for 17 years and it was horrible. Drove I-4 all the time. On the turnpike Ocala makes sense, but Gainesville would have made more sense. Even on 75 Gainesville would make more sense than Ocala.
@@josuermorales Exactly. It is more of a landmark listing. If we look at it that way, once north of Ocala on I-75, Lk. City would make more since than Gainesville also because of it's proximity to the I-75/I-10 interchange.
Look for a heart with a $. The location depends on what device you’re using. Then choose an amount that is at least $5 or greater and write your Request. Hope this helps you. 😁
There should be a child of I-4 that bypasses Orlando. It would be numbered I-404 and be called “Not Found” Highway.
We have a 404 in Rochester NY and make an obligatory “route not found” every time we go by it
Maryland 404 at the Eastern Shore is a short cut to Ocean City, MD and is jokingly called "The Road Not Found"
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kentucky_Route_404
For a strange reason, a few roads in Orange City, DeBary and DeLand sign I-4 West for Sanford as secondary's and a primary for whatever reason, even thought in Daytona it's signed for Orlando.

@@usmpiano Not every state does it in the same way Florida does
Great video my interstate hero
I dunno, Lakeland just doesn’t feel like a metro. It’s wedged between Tampa and Orlando so is kinda a suburb of both
who here watched the og I-4 video
me
This Highway deserved a reboot coming how far you’ve come since May 2021. Great Video as always!
Also, is there a specific Intersection that you would like to see in my US 52 video?
I'm up to my eyeballs on US 52 right now
@@ControlCityFreak Same here. I just got done with collecting 178 Photos for NW US 52. Now I need to start collecting photos for SE US 52.
Here’s Speedboy14’s the way it should be for I-4
East bound: Orlando, Daytona Beach
West bound: Orlando, Tampa, St. Petersburg
My Control Cities for I-4
East:
Orlando
Daytona Beach
Jacksonville
West:
Orlando
Tampa
Saint Petersburg
You should redo i 49 because the bella Vista bypass is now on Google maps
Fair, but the control cities will still be the same. Wait to redo 49 in 2089 when it’s done.
Let's hear it for exit 44 - Auburndale.
Thanks!
I don't see the issue with Ocala for I-75.
I don’t have an issue with it either, but with Gainesville being right up the road as a big college town and an even bigger population than Ocala, I can see why Todd could have an issue with it being signed
I could argue for signing Atlanta from Tampa, but yeah Ocala isn't terrible.
Todd... when is the deadline to send you requests for the US 52 video?
The second one is wide open, it’ll come in 3 weeks
@@ControlCityFreak The location I want is in Rushville, IN (between Indy and Cincinnati), but would only be on the Eastbound video. Am I too late?
If I already have a picture of it I can do it, if not I can just turn around on the westbound one.
US 20 and US 6 would be 😎 Cool US Highways to do vids on too...
Absolutely. Will do both eventually.
Heh, you'll go insane trying to cover US 6, because it's the longest road within Pennsylvania's borders, and that is the state it has its second highest amount of mileage in overall behind none other than Colorado. I'll be looking forward to that though LOL
Exit request for US 52 north in St. Paul MN, right before meeting I-94 at exit 130 for Plato Blvd/Fillmore Ave
Thanks, you got it!
I have heard I 4 is the most deadly Interstate...
Clinched all Interstates in Florida from I 4 to I 595.
Kind of like how US 52 is
You got it, thanks!
The video is atrocious, but then again, so is I-4, so it's appropriate.
7:12 British people will be confused.
Innit?
Heathrow.
do major 3 digits next (CA I-405, PA I-476, Capital Beltway)
Did the 405 already
I’m going to do the other half of the Capital Beltway soon.
OBT sucks. I lived in Orlando for 17 years and it was horrible. Drove I-4 all the time. On the turnpike Ocala makes sense, but Gainesville would have made more sense. Even on 75 Gainesville would make more sense than Ocala.
Agree
Half of I-4 westbound only Daytona to Orlando
Should be i-975
Been to Daytona international speedway
Go Jets
Gainesville would be a better control city than Ocala on 275. Gainesville is not too far up the highway. In not Gainesville, then Atlanta.
Agree
It says Ocala only because of the meeting of the Turnpike and 75. Otherwise, I'd agree with you Gainesville is a more principal city
@@josuermorales Exactly. It is more of a landmark listing. If we look at it that way, once north of Ocala on I-75, Lk. City would make more since than Gainesville also because of it's proximity to the I-75/I-10 interchange.
@@josuermorales The meeting of the Turnpike and 75 is in Wildwood. Ocala is about 30 minutes north of that junction.
@@josuermorales Yeah but you can’t get on the turnpike going in that direction, so what’s the point?

Look for a heart with a $. The location depends on what device you’re using. Then choose an amount that is at least $5 or greater and write your Request.
Hope this helps you. 😁
I'm using my desktop PC and I don't see a heart or a $. Any clue where to look for these?
