Please can someone tell me why this beautiful song reminds me of Christmas. As an Irishman and the fact that the song has nothing to do with Christmas I can't explain. I play this song particularly at Christmas and I understand something of the background.
I would imagine it's the tune structure: simple, repeated melody, all in a major key, which is reminiscent of many Christmas carols (in particular German ones: Germany is not ashamed of enjoying simple tunes, and nor am I). And sung gently (which is unusual for Mireille!).

(I would imagine it is called the/Die Lorelei, as it shows her; look up the legend. It's an awkward bend in the river; I'm sure the legend was mostly promulgated by sailors who weren't concentrating and came to grief there!)
