Great video! Spot treating a small area is great doing it this way but I have a 125 gallon reef tank that has hair algae all over it. I just added some chaeto to my refugium so we'll see how that works. In the meantime, how could/would I use the peroxide method to help speed up the removal of this awful stuff on a larger scale?

I know I feed quite a bit of brine shrimp. Have a clownfish and damsel in the 20 gallon but that clownfish really munches a lot. And it is so nice and plump and looks so healthy.
Thanks for the video. I had to remove my rocks and treat them in a bucket for 10 min. It had over run my tank. Still have some in there I’m fighting but it’s much less now.
Have not tried to fill a syringe and spot treat it yet. There are just little tufts all over and I find it is easy to brush it off and let the filters take care of it and then I clean the filters.
That hair algae will be gone in no time. You are hitting it from every way possible!

I had gha bad at 1 point. I got a lawnmower blenny, more snails, hermits, cut down my lighting and went to frozen food and my algae went away almost in a week with out chemicals or me removing it by hand. And I mean I had it everywhere and it was super long. I would always say do the natural stuff first before chemicals.

My tank is too small for a lawnmower blenny, it did not survive. When I had a larger saltwater tank I had one of those blennies and it worked great.
Would you still recommend this method ? 220 gallon no corals yet but been fighting Gha for 6 months
How bad is it? if spots.. manually remove then spot treat with h2o2.. if your tank is over run.. manual remove then i would do a 2-3x dose of fluconazol
@@ReefDudes hiya I dosed a single dose 2 months ago and didn’t work. I have done a double dose of flux rx on 4th January and the Gha is turning white but at the same time still looks like it’s growing / getting longer. I’ve manually removed as much as I can before dosing and brushed the rocks. Tank was setup in May so if this cycle still as been 8 months now. I see tanks full of coral after 2 months and I still have not got a single coral yet.
You have beautiful pink coralline algae growing in your tank. How did you succeeded at it?
I don’t do anything special. It just seems to grow in all my tanks. If you don’t have any you do need to introduce it to the tank to get it to Grow. I scraped off some for a buddy a few weeks ago :P
A good trick to getting coralline algae growth is to look for and purchase snails that have coralline algae on their shells the next time you're at the pet store.
Is right in between my clove polyps would the peroxide kill the clove polyps and zoa
I have dipped zoas in h2o2 so they will be fine. no 100% on the cloves. I suspect they will be ok but no promises.

I’ve heard of people dosing 13% or even 30% for treating the GHA. Is this too high a concentration you think? Also I’m dosing Nopox and Phosphate e to keep the nutrients really low. Can the combination of a three have a negative impact. Your advice would be much appreciated my friend!
I have only used it to spot treat.. i would stick to 3% to be safe.. most need to dilute the higher concentration ones to make it safe to use.

How does the HP affect anemones?
I love them at first they provide food to my inverts and take every nitrates i have until they clog the intakes
Could always use something like an ATS to grow it in a contained area

I have some here algae in some tight spots in the rock work where I can reach with a toothbrush. Is it not an option to brush it off and let your mechanical filtration and protein skimmer filter it out of the tank with it being loose?
I do that and just net any floating around. Tiny little pieces that i dont get, i let the filter get

Man I have been absolutely struggling with hair algae I have a 40 gallon with 2 t5 bulbs and 2 kessils max 30 percent for a few hours then very low intensity my nutrients have always been low and the algae is not hard to remove but it comes back just as fast I don’t think I’m overstocked I have 7 small fish protien skimmer 2 socks cleaned twice a week and Cheeto light at night and constant wc taking the algae out I am very frustrated at this point I have been at it for months 😭
If you want the hammer approach. Remove as Mich as you can. Double dose of fluconazole and it should disappear in 2-3 weeks.
Just read this comment on Amazon about flucnazole for fish tanks and a customer using it on themselves for a fungal infection. Really funny, because so many fish medicines, including antibiotics are the same meds than those for humans, if researched correctly and the correct form is applied of course.

Yeah, my blenny did that too and it seemed to not get enough nutrients, very finicky accepting foods and died. But I know saltwater fish, especially when being put into a different environment, are notorious for that. My clownfish is also very territorial and I know it attacked the blenny so the blenny went into hiding and did not eat. That clownfish is only not deadly if I have a limber fast damsel in the tank it can not get to fast enough. But when the damsel ages and gets just a little slower, well then the clownfish will attack. That clownfish even attacks the poor hermit crabs in my tank. Have seen that so many times. It is a beautiful fish though.

Would peroxide at that dose stress a refugium much? I could always take mine offline for a few hours if it would help.
I wouldn't think so. I have never noticed any impact from the odd spot treatment

I recently upgraded my lighting, and green hair algae was on a couple of my GPS. I backed off on my lighting, almost all of it went away, but there’s one GPS that still has a considerable amount. What do you suggest? The GPS is on the base in the middle of my tank.
It is a tough balance because the corals thrive with more light. When I decrease the light the hair algae is not as bad, but the corals do not expand as large as they would with more light. Brushing hair algae off them all the time is not fun either though. For now I am accepting more work to brush it off the rocks and corals. Have tried hydrogen peroxide but it almost killed the corals. The tail spot eats hair algae?
Right after my cycle completed i got invaded by tons of green and brown hair algae, i tried ripping it all out then going dark for a week and came right back every time. I have tangs and tons of snails and hermits and nothing, the hair algae was winning. My water parameters were good low nitrate and p04. Nothing worked until FLUCNAZOLE, worked like a charm with one dose, i have not seen spot of GHA in my tank since i tried it a year ago. It had no effect on my fish, corals, or invertebrates. i you are having trouble with GHA use FLUCNAZOLE it works you wont be dissapointed.

Nope nothing at all, its literally the miracle cure. All my fish and corals were unaffected by it. though it seems to only work well for GHA as i had some red turf algae that didn't get affected. I dosed at 20mg/ gallon which seems to be the standard.

If I get real sick of it I might just try this product. I am always so afraid it will hurt fish and corals but even the comments on Amazon are very positive and saying none of their fish or corals showed any ill effects. I sure like that.

Only issue i see is if youre having gha issues and you kill the gha in your tank. You are just releasing the nutrients back into the system. Kinda just throwing a bandaid at it not really fixing the reason why you have gha
100% correct, you need to fix the source or it will just come back. Need to fix the nutrients first.
Does hydrogen peroxide affect inverts ? I’m having problems w my tank and I’ve seen a lot of ppl using it but I just don’t want to hurt my crabs and shrimps
Just dont use too much.. 1ml/10g per day should be safe from my experiences and what i have read from others using it.

ReefDudes lol yea weird. Thought about it for my algae ( not sure what kind) it comes off in chunks with turkey baster. Kind of a yellowish color, only on the non live rock phosphates and nitrates are extremely low.. So might give it a try, Tired of the dirty look on the rock :)

Be careful with Vibrant. It will destroy nuisance algae but it scorched a birdsnest and chalice in 2 days ( that were previously healthy and growing)

Its more you will also kill your bacteria on it as well and you dont want to impact too much of your tanks bacteria at one time.
1ml hydrogen peroxide per 10 gallons water is that per hour, day, week, year?
Per day
If you have a bad infestation get 12% food grade HP. You can get it from amazon or Ebay. Use 3 ml per 10 gallons and inject straight into the algae. It wont hurt your fish corals or inverts. Corals like zoas might close up for a day but that's about it. Do that process every 5 days till the algae is gone. Severe cases may take up to a month to eradicate but it will work.
Good way to remove that pesky algae as well as having an established CUC. 😁

ReefDudes i only have greenhair algea on ons small spot. I leave it in there on purpose. Than I can see if it gets worse or disappears. But stayed the same now for like 6 months or something.
