Incredibly, the mother of Cassie and Steve, died on February 17, 1979 -- less than two years later -- in a car accident, near the cemetery of where Cassie and Steve were laid to rest, in Orange Park, Florida.
@@LAkadian@LAkadian Steve's not 'very rich'. He's long dead and had barely much time with Lynyrd Skynyrd before his tragic death. He couldn't have built up his estate very much with so little time, although I assume his (now deceased) widow Teresa and daughter Corrina still received royalties after his death.
I cannot get over how long Steve's fingers are. No wonder he could play so damn fast. He could reach the frets effortlessly. What a player! I'm convinced that had he lived, we would be talking about him in the same breath as Hendrix and Clapton.

Right there with SRV and Duane Allman…kid was amazing.
Man, what a great solo, his note choices, phrasing is amazing.
A Greek tragedy that guy didn't have more time. So good.
Yeah, just a few months with skynyrd, so sad.
@@rabootocoelhinho5698 He saved the band, man. That cat was a diamond in the rough.
@@jasonrobertson8487 agree, he saved the band after the (also) great Ed King left. The essence of skynyrd is the 3 guitars
No band of that era had better guitar players. All of them were absolute beasts!
Couldn’t agree more
The freebird solo and reeling in the years riff
Must be the best ever written
never seen the guitar players of lynryd skynyrd not play what they recorded on the album, that was an incredible solo
Watch the full song, all the guys play something different than what’s on the recording
@@JabezGill where can I find it
@@kvnboudreaux Oakland coliseum concert on RUclips, you probably found it by now but still figured I'd help just in case lol

Their mother, was Cassie LaRue Hatfield Gaines. She was 52.
d. February 15, or 17, in 1979,
Jacksonville, Florida.
Arguably the most underrated guitarist
Unarguably famous as hell and very rich, unlike many very good guitarists nobody's ever heard of. Stop calling famous people "underrated".

I agree 100%. He had a very great bluesy style and probably would have been under the same light as SRV and such
Best southern rock band ever recorded.
sister cassie in back in the middle… such a shame
Wow
He was unreal
yeah, it's a shame he had so little time with skynyrd
Surreal to see his sister who also passed in the crash right there cheering him on! So sad
