Had an old friend years ago that ran big diesel trucks hauling grain , and he swore by atf in each tank of diesel. When I bought my first gen 5.9 back in the early 90's I used atf about every other tank full .I sold it with almost 400K miles and it NEVER gave me any issues and was still a great engine.

I bought a '03 f350 diesel dually 4x ran horrible, I was laughed at by 2 shops that said scrap it. I found Spanky from Spankies mobile diesel in Boulder City, NV and after a complete exam, and tightening the FICM it ran great, however..still had hard starts, glow plug issues, Spanky said add ATF to tank, after a couple of tanks and 2 qts of atf, no more hard starts, smooth as new. I sware by using ATF.

I ran ATF fluid in my Duramax. A lot more than many would suggest. I’d run up to 15gal in my 26gal tank. Any more and it would start to smoke white. Smoother engine for sure when running and no gelling. I never had an issue so I can’t say it’s a problem. Factory injectors made it to 250k miles.

@@Kenny407 you could say I mixed it with diesel. On my ‘03 it had a 26gal fuel tank and I would pump in as much as 15gal of filtered ATF. I got all of my information from the guys running waste oil in 7.3 Powerstrokes. It really made the engine quiet and ran so smooth. No cold start issues and no mileage loss. Can’t say I gained mileage either. Hands down I’d do it again.
It also helped that when I was doing it, the transmission shops were giving it away. Now that’s not so much the case. At least where I live.

Guys, I added a quart of Mercon V to the fuel tank (19 gallons) of my 2002 Ford Ranger Edge 3.OL every 5K miles and ran the tank dry (ok, really low). Bought it new in Nov. 2001 and sold it in Aug. 2013. It had 305K miles on it. Engine was fine, the body and frame rusted out. The ATF acts as an upper cylinder lubricant and cleaner and oils up the injectors. I've also been doing the same thing to my 2012 F-150 5.0L. NO ISSUES! On gasoline engines the O2 sensors do not like it, so don't overdo it. If you have a smaller fuel tank, use a half a quart.

I'd recommend seafoam in the fuel instead, it's cleaned up my injectors before. About 4 oz per gallon is what I used. Considering you could have a lot of sludge buildup in the engine, you may want to run some marvel mystery oil at 20 percent of your oil volume for about 100-300 miles of really hard driving. Change the oil after that and see if it helps at all. It may take several flush outs but I've seen a forum where a cummins owner did this and it cured his rev problem. Other than that it's gotta be computer related

This is bad for your cylinders because it causes extra heat generates in there. Yes, you do need new injectors. I'm speaking from experience on this one.
