Last time I checked airport runways don't move around much. Can't they spray salt solution from fixed points along the runway?

+iforce2d That would demand a huge amount (literally several km) of infrastructure to deal with just one problem (that specific runway's fog). If the runway is clear and there is fog elsewhere, the equipment is useless. With a drone you may have a smaller investment and deploy it on-demand, where and when needed.
+corisco tupi are you suggesting that the spray system would use just a single pipe to cover every runway in the entire airport, with only one tap to turn the whole thing on and off? :)
Airports are huge infrastructure already, adding pipes is not a significant issue in the big picture.
***** No. I am saying that whatever topology is employed by a fixed system, several km of infrastructure such as piping would be necessary, and that would address exactly one problem: runway fog.

Emiliano Toska Well, technology has went a long way since last year. There is no need to make it super heavy to carry expensive equipment. The sensors for the cameras and everything became smaller. They can make the footprint of the entire drone smaller. Also the motors can be a bit bigger but due to better technology they are more powerful. The power system wise including the computer and the speed controller. Basically, the size of the drone to do the power it does today a few years ago is like miniature. Companies used to have at least 2 octocopters to do what the rc drones of just 4-6 motors can do at half the weight out of the box and cost 10x less and be abled to carry complete in a backpack. I'm sure teams have a lot with plenty of batteries in another case.

I especially liked the drone with the two yellow bottles, that demonstrated how they could spray the crowd with deadly chemicals. But of course they weren't thinking that............

I like the ball cage one. That guy really knows the issue that drones are easy to crash and break. Why they continue to make drones with absolutely no form of protection from crashes is beyond me.
After watching some FPV freestyle pilot crash 5 inch drones I think youll change your mind about that. Full throttle from couple hundred feet, into pavement and it flies after you bend the props back..

+Visual Flights Until it gets stuck in some bend rebar and also its huge comparing to passages that are in, lets say collapsed building. Tracked vehicle would do much better and could be much smaller in size, not to mention have possible ability to clear the way. Trow bed sheet on the door way and its impenetrable obstacle for this thing.

I'd like to see a drone that is like a gurney with a flat bed that is able to rescue people over the side of cliffs or bridges or buildings on fire. The people would climb on board and get flown to safety or a medic could go to them and strap them in and fly them to the rescuers. If it is inflatable then fire departments could carry them collapsed inside cases until needed. Even swift water rescues would be good uses.

The Devonex, you seem to be quite paranoid, maybe that is due to your lack of knowledge on the subject, fear is in the unknown right? I have filmed people who hang off the side of buildings for a living.... one of my personal friends makes a living operating a business doing such things and they are still alive and kicking. Sure there are risks involved, but risks are minimized with professional safety routines. Haven't you seen the documentary about the workers who built the Burj Khalifa? if not try and learn something about those brave boys who go up their daily to build the thing....believe me - your grapes will turn to raisins just watching what they do.

I think people have to learn the difference between a quadcopter/tricopter/etc and a Drone/UAV.
One thing is a remote controlled vehicle the other is an autonomous vehicle.
A drone doesn't have to be a "copter" at all, a Drone can be an airplane kind of vehicle.
What if the window cleaning drone was a larger sized drone that could carry around small robots that it will place onto a window? The smaller robots once attached can clean the window then wait to be picked back up by the drone.
