@@NatesFilmTutorials I am trying to use it to monitor and control the camera. on the BMPC 4K camera I do not see where I can connect it wirelessly without a receiver from Hollyland. Yeah the camera can go wireless but it will not connect. It DOES connect via HDMI but that defeats the purpose of wireless functionality.
Gotcha! You have to use it with an HDMI cable plugged in. There maybe an app to wirelessly view your camera with your phone via Bluetooth. But this system is an entirely different device. Unless cameras start including a transmitter inside there is no way else to do this other than connecting to HDMI
@@NatesFilmTutorials Ok so I have to get the hollyland receiver and transmitter pieces to run wireless then. I had planned on that anyways but with how they advertised it it made it seem that was all you needed was the monitor lol. Ty for your time.
2:38 was smooth!! love this system. Also hoping to get that 5" and bigger production monitors in this series. Side note - were you able to use the UVC feature for broadcasting to OBS?
Thanks for the review Nate. The monitor seems to lack contrast when next to your camera’s screen. I’m glad there are color adjustment sliders, but think there should be gamma/contrast control. How is the monitor when shooting outdoors? I believe it is only 1200 nits, so it may not be ideal. In a two camera shoot situation, and using the Pyro 7 as a Redding monitor, how quickly can you change from one camera signal to the other?
Hey David! Thank you so much for your comment. I will do a few more tests when I get back home. As far as your last question, I would say switching signals is not the quickest, But I assume it’s anywhere between 20-60 seconds.
Cool video! Is it possible to connect the monitor by itself to the camera and display on a nearby TV? Or, do I need one of the s's to connect to the TV to then receive the signal from the monitor and the camera? Thanks!
I really want to get this monitor, but my biggest question is whether you can crop in on your footage when shooting, for example if I shot 2x anamorphics, and wanted to crop the footage down to 2.4:1 while shooting, is this possible or if you are aware of any other monitors that would do this that are also in this budget or mid range pricing would be awesome to know. I know the smallHD monitors can do this but I can't imagine myself needing a $1500+ monitor at this point in my career for my personal rig.
Hi Owen! Yes, this monitor does support desqueeze options, allowing you to see the final look of your footage when using anamorphic lenses. You can choose from several desqueeze settings, including 2x, so you can accurately preview your footage in the correct aspect ratio, like 2.4:1.
@@NatesFilmTutorials Cool cool. Is the cropping feature present as well? Aka, if I am desqueezing a 2x on my FX30, then my ratio is gonna be a 3.5:1 sliver. What I need to know is whether you can crop the footage down to a 2.4:1, after desqueeze, so that even while desqueezing a 2x lens, I only see what I will use in the end, as well as be able to see more when pulling focus, etc!
@@NatesFilmTutorials Good to know. I haven't found any monitors that can do it under $1000, so I don't think its a budget monitor feature. This is still one of the best monitors I've seen for sure tho!
Hi there! The latency of just the monitor display is roughly 1-2 frames. Adding in the delay from the actor to camera is another 1-2 frames. So roughly 4-5 frames in total (when working with 24p)
@@NatesFilmTutorials thanks! Is that with hdmi or sdi? Also, how does that compare to the hollyland mars 1? That monitor has too much latency for my taste. Therefore I would like to know if they improved with this model. Nobody seems covers this to my surprise. Quite an essential feature of an on-camera monitor.
So I actually got mine in the mail today and they do have usb-c pass through power. I am able to plug my tilta nucleus focus motor in with a usb-c to 7 pin cable and it powers it 👍🏼 sweet perk.
Honestly this whole series from Hollyland makes me upset. I bought the Mars series, which I think is great but has its drawbacks, I would have loved to have seen them build that ecosystem out more or tie these two together. Doesn't give me faith in their next release that they'll continue building out this ecosystem or their past ones.
@@NatesFilmTutorials Agreed, the 7 inch is really tantalizing to offer a director or producer on set over my current 5 inch Mars M1...wish I didn't have to consider switching systems. To add too it, what is it going to look like in a year or 6 months when they inevitably come out with a new system?
Hey Lukas! I wouldn’t say it’s impossible, I’ve used worse systems lol. But I get it, the unfortunate part is spending thousands on teradek to get any improvement in latency. This unit will be solid for my needs. Thanks for watching!
Have you used a wireless monitor? Let me know what you think of the Hollyland Pyro 7 + Pyro S Kit → geni.us/JAhQHt
I bought this monitor and it is advertised it can work wirelessly with a BMPC 4K camera without a receiver but it doesn't.
How are you trying to use it? The monitor can be switched to transmitter or receiver moss depending on your use case.

This monitor is fantastic and one of my favorite products of 2024. Solid review brutha 👊🏽
Hey Armando! I agree! Hopefully they continue to build out the ecosystem. Thanks for stopping by, keep up the great work! 🔥
Great information, I'll definitely be picking on of these up!
Nice! It’s hard to pass up. Let me know what you think when you get it!
can those huge antennas be replaced with the capsule-like antennas of the mars m1? if yes, it would be sick!
Great question! I assume so, it may affect range. I agree that can be handy for a small kit!
that's what I was thinking

Thanks man! I did not test that, but that would be a good idea
I have 3 sets of Hollyland Mars 4K. Always something better comes out!
They actually did come out with the kit that includes the case for each item. It’s called the Pyro seven family kit.
You’re right! I’m so glad. Thanks for the heads up!
Would love to see you compare the latency between Dji's Transmitter vs Hollyland's Transmitter. Overall, great video! :)
Thanks Jonny! If I can get my hands on one, I’d love to test it out
Thanks for the review Nate.

You could run an HDMI signal form the monitor to a TV, or use another receiver to wirelessly connect it to the tv
How do you switch between reciever 1 feed and 2 feed in OBS ? I was thinking this monitory could do it
Good day, can you just buy the Pyro 7 Monitor and only send feed to your existing phone / tablet as opposed to buying a pair of TX and RX units?
Yep!

Great film!
Thank you! 🙏 Have you used a wireless system before?
How would you compare this set to the DJI sdr? I am debating getting one of the two
Do you know if the Pyro 7 and Mars M1 are compatible with each other?
They are not unfortunately
are you able to answer if both systems (pyro 7 & s) cross convert ie. hdmi in to pyro 7 sdi out of pyro 7 or s, or vice versa.
Yes! It does cross convert!
Can you record externally to an SSD drive hopefully?
Using the USB-C or something?
I'm missing the latency if the monitor is connected directly to the camera. Do you have that information from a test you have done yourself?

Does the usb-c port supply any power out? To be able to power a focus motor.
I don’t believe it does, that would be neat

@crimvisuals9441 Oh dope! Thanks for sharing!
Can it connect to any bigger monitors for video village?
You can connect it to another display through the HDMI or SDI out!
Idk, why isnt it compatible with the mars series. I aint gonna buy a new set for this.
Does it have app support for phones or tablets?
Yes it can! You can see my phone connected to it at 3:24
Is it possible to turn the fan off?
It cannot be turned off, only option is to set to “low” or “auto” That being said I don’t think the fan is loud enough to be an issue on set

DJI
I’m excited to see how that works!
latency is a big nogo. no chance on a pro set.
Yeah, I wish it was better, but this latency is pretty typical on the budget end. How would you primarily use it?

It does not, unfortunately
