    had a 7 plus and was good but around 1 in 6 photod blurry. Got pixel 3 and excellent but with average use battery runs out. Still have it and much better after updates. Had ordered a Nokia 8.1 and it finally arrived. Now to decide which to keep. Camera between pixel 3 and 8.1 hard to tell difference the 8.1 is that good. I find colours more accurate on the 8.1 and not oversharpened as can get on Pixel. I live by sea and the only time pixel is much better is maximum zoom on both to get ship on horizon. Pixel does excellent job and ship comes out good. Nokia 8.1 however is just unidentifiable blobs. To be honest how often would you try to take photo of ship or anything on horizon 3 to 10kilometers away. I really do love the 8.1 it is that good. Inside low light photos excellent and colour always good where pixel struggled to get correct colours at times. Both have excellent screens although I have always preferred lcd over oled. Both excellent visibility outside except in direct noon day sun and neither xcreen can be seen. Which one to keep well might have to be flip of coin as both so good

      yeah, and that alone should show how well they have done with this device, and like you said, the colors are amazing with pictures on this device! if this had the 7 plus body, I would have maybe changed this for the note 9 I have, but just not the biggest fan of a glass back anymore haha, LOVED that texture on the 7 plus so much!

This phone has cost me half the price per month, admittedly the screen isn't as good as a Samsung S8 but I've honestly not noticed that much.Also no Samsung bloatware which is a plus...stock android.This phone has been as fast as any Galaxy I've had.Im glad I changed to this phone.Great phone.

    Would you really pick the 7 plus over this one? That's a real option for me. But Snapdragon 660 vs 710 sounds like a step down, and since the phone is 9 months older, that's 9 months less of security updates.

    Watching it on my 8.1 :D. I had decided on 4/64 config, but switched to 6/128 config at the last moment (don't know what came over me). There is some screen flickering issue when you switch between app during a call, but that seems like some software bug. All in all, dumping Moto for Nokia was one of my best decisions.

    How long will it receive security updates, is it easy to replace the battery? These are very important concerns in 2019, yet they are rarely addressed in reviews. I was pretty annoyed when having to buy a new phone because motorola stopped providing security updates, even though my phone was still perfect...

    • @JermaineSmit
      @JermaineSmit  5 лет назад

      for the battery, I mean replacement is not something a normal consumer does?

      @ingmarbrouns3816 5 лет назад

      @@JermaineSmit Thanks for the info! Regarding battery replacement, it used to be quite normal to replace it yourself, until manufacturers made it harder and harder to do so. Making it hard to change the battery, or not providing security updates are easy ways to force consumers to buy new phones every two years, even if their old phones are still fine. Therefore buying a phone these days is about more than hardware, in my opinion durability (especially updates/upgrades) should be addressed in a proper review.

    And now you can get 8.1 for under 300 EUR in Europe. Just a catch - only the metallic gray model is that cheap. Other colors are about 50 EUR more. I guess, they made discounts because the metallic gray piled up in their stores :D
    Of course, you can get something more powerful for the same price, but not everything - good camera with OIS, NFC, gyro, clean-ish Android with guaranteed upgrades for a few years. However, I wish Nokia had put a physical LED for notifications in that big notch and also more durable materials would be appreciated (a friend had some chips on edges after mild use for 10 days). And stereo speakers should be easily implemented leveraging that big notch again...

      OK so I haven't used all the phones so it is very hard for me to properly judge all of them.
      and of course there is a part of preference with it as well.
      But if I had to pick one I would go for the Nokia 7 plus. the build quality is far better then some other mid-range phones. It has a GOOD camera for the price.
      And the textured back is great!
      Also... no notch, and you are retaining the headphone jack.
      You could go for the Nokia 8.1 as well though, but for my personal preference I would pick the 7 plus.

    Nokia 6.1 user here. Nokia's designs probably won't appeal to young buyers looking for those flashy gradient color backs but Nokia is a mature brand and their phones look classy and European. Unfortunately they also are succumbing to the temptation of following the industry into stupid screen notch designs and 19:9 aspect ratios. Me, I'm loving my Nokia 6.1.

      I somewhat agree. The thing for me at the moment with some designs is that it is to much like others. The way the notch is shaped for instance and the curves giving on the corners with it.

      @@JermaineSmit well the thing is, all these phones are boring rectangles and there's only so much phone makers can do to distinguish their phones from the sea of other phones. Kinda like trying to make a bespoke suit that you wanna stand out from all the rest. Unless you make your suit outright gaudy or you're lucky to come up with something that really looks good that nobody's thought of, it's hard to distinguish your product. I have to say though, those Chinese brands like Oppo and Honor are really innovating with their rear panel designs, with those psychedelic colors and gradient hues. Gimmicky, yes, but at least their doing a great job. And some of those, like the Oppo F11 Pro, are really stunning in person.

      Thing is though. i felt like the nokia 7 plus was the design that worked. That made it stand out. But the nokia 6.1 7.1 and 8.1 all have this same design as many other cheaper designs (BUT of course much better quality)
      And yeah Oppo is doing pretty well in terms of design

      apil bista I‘d pick a Nokia regardless of the quality of the phones because Samsung is one of the least ethical brands and produce their devices very unsustainably. If you wanna have a look, rankabrand has a pdf ranking all major brands in terms of climate protection, greenwashing etc. Nokia and Apple are, following Fairphone, the „most ethical“ brands. At least, that made my decision easier, maybe it helps you as well :)

I used my phones like my laptop, e.x. study purpose, report writing, large apps and photography. that's why I spend on high-end phones before. Now, I want a mid-range ph with very good camera ( I travel a lot) , 4gb RAM atleast and long battery life for day to day activities without going for charger now and again. I would prefer better graphic than headphone jack on my set 😊
      p.s. for the past 11months I'm using nokia 8 sirocco with cracked screen recently, and need to change the ph. It's actually a fine ph, good camera, no lag at all on any apps, and long battery life.

But front camera seems to capture a little cold pictures compared to OnePlus 6t. But! But! But! With gcam it blows OnePlus away. 8.1 is a bit slow compared OnePlus as 8.1 have 710 and OnePlus got 845 soc. Anyways you won't notice a thing in day to day life.

    I had the 7 plus but it failed after 8 months so the company replaced it under warranty with the 8.1. TBH I preferred the 7 plus, it just felt so much better in the hand. The 8.1 feels big and clunky and is a terrible fingerprint magnet. The performance experience is about the same although the picture quality is better. When they said they were "upgrading" me for free I accepted happily thinking I was getting a better phone but now I wish I had insisted they repaired my old phone or sourced a new 7plus. Yeah, the design on this is just another generic-chinese-type design. Hence the awful useless notch and the glass sandwich design without basic stuff any REAL Nokia phone would have like wireless charging (seriously...this is something even mid-ranger Lumias had...and yet HMD fails time and again to include).
    But what completely kills these HMD phones is the crap version of Android they run. Having the phones on Android One immensely limits them. Google's crappy version of Android doesn't allow users to go around things like the "we want to blind you!" white backgrounds via a theme engine, it doesn't give users a one-handed mode for easier use, it doesn't give users control over the notification icons on top or even the notch, etc.
    I'm glad the camera on phone carrying the Nokia brand is improving. But these HMD phones are still a loooong way away from being real Nokias. And as such, this Nokia fan from the Old Guard will continue to keep away from the phones.

    • @Conceptcreator

      i can in part agree,android one is very limited, but sadly the current market is sooooooo focused on getting updates fast, and for that this is ideal. But agreed, having a own skin on top would have been nice. And yes for the price nokia hmd does reaaaally well with the camera
