The polycarbonate used for heavy lightsaber blades is roughly equivalent to rattan. It will take a lot more than you would expect, but it will break with enough abuse. Its impact is safer than steel or HDPE or hardwood; but with enough power behind it, it can still break bone. Thus it's a good rule of thumb to treat it like a rattan weapon in terms of safety. It would be a shame to get seriously distracted from your HEMA content, but there's nothing wrong with the occasional fun diversion like this. Always great to see.
Here in chile we have a lightsaber academy in wich we study real swordmanship techniques such as kenjutsu, fiore and destreza. It's really refreshing for me to know your thoughts of this weapons from the HEMA perspective. I'd love to see more of these!
@@scassoniostrarompi1691 Hola! I'm not sure about the basic stuff we learn, most of it's your typical japanese styled swordsmanship (like cuts, guards, footwork...), but the more advanced technics are interpretations of Musashi's Book of Five Rings. Much more I can't say because I don't practice that style. Felices fiestas Scassonio!
Lightsaber is a lot of fun. Great way to get kids into fencing practice and then hook them to hema. All you have to do is have some practice or dueling nearby enough for the kids to see and then they want to try it out. Just don't mention it let them ask questions. My club ran some of the first tournaments in the world and we did a roadtrip to check out the tsl people who i think were the first to see how they ran tournaments like six years ago or so.
My club also run lightsaber classes along side HEMA/WMA as well. Some people don't like the deviation between historic and pop culture but it's great fun to move your lightsaber like a Feder.
Yay lightsabers finally ! If I may there is a lightsaber fencing tournament called the Azzurro Open April 27 in Rimini (Italy). I don't know if it's open to public but I suppose it is (I will ask and edit my comment with the answer). Another tournament is set in Paris on June 7 and 8. Anyway great video as always ! And Merry Christmas everyone !
Personally, Federico, I prefer toys like padded sabers/pallasch/two-handed for ludic fencing, because despite their downsides they at least spare me/us the need to wear body protections other than a groin/breast protector and optionally a fencing mask (if playing at full speed/force). If I have to put on all my usual gear to avoid bodily harm, I'd rather use a proper fencing tool instead of a toy, and do fencing instead of ludic fencing.
@@scassoniostrarompi1691 mmmm, I actually say in the video (and also show) that you can basically fence with it only with the mask and a pair of light gloves but, anyway, one should go for this because of fun mainly, than it happens to be a safe training tool for light sparring.
"I'm a nerd and I know you are too"
Good instinct right there
Hehe
…lucky guess.

Hola Matias.
Interesting. Do you know what kenjutsu school(s) are the techniques taken from, or inspired by? Just curious.
Felices fiestas, Scassonio

Some videos on which techniques work and don't work with a lightsaber would def be cool to watch!
When your training kicks in and you accidentally half-sword with a lightsaber
Ahahahahahah
Molto interessante Fede, grazie per il video!
Prego!

Looks like a lot of fun!

Maybe at some point I will try. LoL!
I kinda want a couple of the ones with crossguards for sparring when it's dark
Well, I tried out, fencing in the dark is pretty fun lol!
Wouldn’t sparring with these lightsabres be similar to arnis, escrima and other stick fighting arts?
Uhm, I don’t know! Probably!
@@FedericoMalagutti Not that I have any experience with stick fighting arts.
Dio Fa
LOL
Toys
Definitely
