EU citizens are different again. However I recently met a Hungarian man, he came here with nothing 20 years ago and today he owns several businesses and works from him for an international bank. The problem, in my opinion, is the lack of vision by our political leaders when it comes to immigration. @jackbarber2697 numbers of EU migrants are way down from the 00s. The fact that the state is looking to issue more visas to non-EU migrants to fill job vacancies is telling. I for one am planning on living in Portugal long term. If it wasn't for the EU, I'd have to apply for a visa after a few months, which I wouldn't be guaranteed to get. So, while it needs reform, I'm forced to grudgingly admit we're better in than out of the EU. And no doubt the vast majority of Irish people feel the same.

Does Aontu have plans to work with the UK to seal the island from bogus Asylum seekers ? The Minister for Justice has said that 80% of asylum seekers are now entering the Republic via Belfast. Even within the Common Travel Area, documents can be requested from passengers. The win-win for the UK, would be that dangerous individuals come be monitored travelling between both islands.

The majority of migrants are actually coming from the EU and not overseas. Focusing solely on the non-EU migrants will never solve the problem.
Ireland should follow the lead of the UK and quit the EU and this way it can control its border. Even if you stop people from non-EU to come into the country, you will still have loads of them coming from the EU.
@jackbarber2697 There's zero appetite in this country for leaving the EU, especially after witnessing the absolute disaster brexit has been. Even politicians in Europe, like Le Pen, that once championed leaving the EU have abandoned this position.
@@pauldavid6179 I agree with you on that but we also have to acknowledge that immigration can therefore not be solved then. Even stopping issuing visas to non-EU citizens won't be enough.
The problem, in my opinion, is the lack of vision by our political leaders when it comes to immigration. No one will say that there are sectors in our economy that badly need immigrants to function properly.
In Italy, Georgia Meloni claimed to solve the immigration only to find out that it is not as easy as it seems. Populism isn't the solution and no one has the balls to admit it unfortunately.
@jackbarber2697 numbers of EU migrants are way down from the 00s. The fact that the state is looking to issue more visas to non-EU migrants to fill job vacancies is telling.
I for one am planning on living in Portugal long term. If it wasn't for the EU, I'd have to apply for a visa after a few months, which I wouldn't be guaranteed to get. So, while it needs reform, I'm forced to grudgingly admit we're better in than out of the EU. And no doubt the vast majority of Irish people feel the same.
@@pauldavid6179 You can't cherry pick EU's benefits my friend. If you want to be in the EU then you should accept the migrants that come with it. Blaming it on non EU citizens doesn't seem right to me
