My dad's first car was a Renault and his current car is a 2016 Megane .. Has to say that he convinced me "a Toyota fan" on the brand after driving his car, they're on the right path to success
mazda guy here after a few of those rusting away i got sold on a clio 03 and it dont rust more then just some miner parts under the car that gets hammered by road dust and weather.

I once purchased a 1985 Renault Encore new. A well-known automotive reviewer of the time once called the Renault Alliance and Encore "desperation merchandise even when new". In retrospect, I regrettably agree with that characterization. Eventually, whenever I called the dealership I bought it from for service, they'd respond with "Did you buy it here"?

I have just driven a Toyota Yaris, and proace city. Nice but a little dreary. Fiat didn't want to know me, nissan we're busy dealing with customers, and mitsubishi did not have a demonstrator! I went to ford and drove a transit courier, great! Went to put a deposit down to be told it has been sold! However, they had a Renault grand scenic 1.6cdl. I drove it and wow! It was amazing. Quiet, well made, everything you could want in a car, even rear air con! I have bought it! Good things come to those who wait!

It's not horrible, and before you say they are unreliable and bad quality it all just depends on how you look after it, its not a Honda heck even a Honda will break with years of neglect.
@Barack Obama I bought a brand new Captur 2020. The aircon compressor was not working from day one, the infotainment system had a problem and was reseting in the middle of driving or not working at all, the tyre pressure sensors were always on no matter what etc. When renault attempted to fix the car, they managed to damage the paintwork, and they painted it wrong. The ac repair was happening for months the car going in and out all the time, and they have never rectified this isses and many other issues, which i dont have the time niether the will to go over again.
Long story short, i rejected the car after 8 months and got all the money back! I bought a brand new Mazda which is great car! I really liked the Renault Captur before i buy it but the built quality and horrible aftercare is just astonishing. I have owned a few new cars and few used cars, but this one is one of the worst cars ever. As a matter of fact, i still own an old alfa romeo 156, which is 22 years old and is more reliable than this one.
In my opinion and my experience,Renault is a horrible brand!

A few people in my family and some of my friends have had them, all between 2004 and up til about february this year, no matter the model theyve had issues. Dash lights, engine issues, gearbox issues, electrical mishaps, door cards coming off, one of them repeatedly needing new injectors at least once a year. Just to name a few things. Even in work, although i work on buses myself, some of the mechanics i work with have owned them in the past and got some in for repairs, all bags of trouble. Ive yet to meet someone who hasnt had some sort of an issue with a renault. Theyre just not well made
@@alexhickey5633 hmmm.... That's why in my country all taxis are Renault most with 500k km because they're not reliable. Absolute bullshit. People have more issues with BMWs and Audis and Mercedes than people have with Renault my friend. Renault engine is solid and parts are cheap.
@@Jack_The_Ripper_Here ive seen hondas and old volvos with many more miles than that and on original engines too. My own honda has 230k miles on it. It never gave a days bother.
As for calling bullshit on a life experience, pff get real. I know at least 10 people who fix cars for a living and i can tell you, their least favourite cars to work on are bmw audi mercedes dacia renault nissan peugeot ds and citroen. Give em anything else and they will very happily work away on it because they dont give major issues at all. Reason for german cars going bad especially the past 15 years is the introduction of complex electronics. Renaults are not a complicated car mechanically or electrically, just bad design to work on and to function poor materials galore just to top it off. Renault is not a quality car brand. Just a part of life. Yes, theoretically any car will go forever if you keep replacing stuff because youre keeping everything brand new essentially. Im talking about how long you can go between having to replace parts, thats where renault falls flat on its face. The Japanese made cars such as honda and toyota are a quality design using quality materials and theyre handy to work on for the most part. I myself have only seen japanese stuff to fail from abuse and thorough neglect, thatll kill any vehicle. Want to hear a good one, friends renault espace popped the head gasket at 100k miles roughly. Next the clutch went, then the cam shaft just snapped, then it spun the bearings in the engine and the final thing that caused it to be scrapped was an ecu failure while driving down the road. No reason behind it. They got sick of putting money into that thing. Theyve had a toyota the past 5 years, put 150k miles on it in that time which now brings it to almost 600k miles. Other than a clutch(that car pulls a trailer) and an alternator in that time and consumables such as oil filters and brake pads etc it never gave problems at all. The last major repair they did was the clutch about 2 years back. Since then, only servicing and replaced of consumables........
@@alexhickey5633 as you said. It's a matter of how well you're maintaing your car. Last year I bought a Honda with only 30k miles on it. The engine was overheating. Now I have a Renault Megan Coupe. Not a single freaking problem with it. I had an old clio on the past. Worked like a charm. No noises, just freaking worked. I love Japanese cars. They are indeed well made but my experience with Renault has been good so far. I see Renault and Dacias all over the place. Because they don't last a whole lot, I understand, but my intention isn't to keep it forever. I bought at auction a Renault Megan Coupe, with all the service stamps, works absolutely fine, looks very good and I paid 100 pounds on it. So my apologies for not being interested in how reliable the car is when my investment in a car that works very good, starts every time, looks very good, was as little as 100 pounds. The most problems with Renault, as far as I know, are electrics. Funny enough, everything works on this car. Even the roof goes down as it should. In a 2005 car. So with cars it depends how lucky you are. This car seemed to had been taken care of. You can drive the most reliable car ever made, if you don't take care of it, it will fail. If you love a car, you can keep it forever. It helps if you know how to fix it yourself. It saves you a lot of money.
Fun fact: Renault is failing in reliability and safety, and barely any of their cars are getting at least acceptable crash test ratings. Their airbag systems are trash, and their reliability is poor and Renault is backing out of many markets for these reasons. Every year they only get more losses and hate on their vehicles. In the US, where I live, thankfully there are no Renaults on the streets, because there is no Renault in the US. Which is good, because those unsafe, unreliable vehicles suck. No hate, but it's truly not a company to choose if you do get a car in a region where the cars are sold.
