  • Here is my unboxing and review on the newest Ego Select Cut XP mower. Sorry this video is long but I go in depth on all of the parts, features and operation of the mower. If you are going to spend $750 you might as well do some research and spend a little time. It is model 2156sp which is the latest and comes with the upgraded 10AH battery and motor. I have done a ton of research on battery powered mowers and I describe how I picked the Ego. Please subscribe I am just starting out my channel and trying to get 1000 subscribers.

The stealth bomber of mowers... I love it!

I have the previous model with the 7.5amh battery. Used a year and a half so far and love it.

Yes the 10amh is almost overpowered for my small yard. I can mow it for 3 weeks on a single charge. Thanks for the comment

I purchased this lawnmower and I was very disappointed with the cut quality. It was leaving way too many stragglers, even going forward and backwards on the cutting of the lawn. Will be returning this mower tomorrow. I really wanted to like it, and was hyped about it.

I'm sorry to hear that. I haven't had that problem with mine - I do overlap each cut by about 6 inches and mow every 5-6 days at 3 inches high and it's been fine. Did you buy the XP version?

I replaced a 2015 5-amp push EGO with the 2021 equivalent - LM2101. They have made several improvements, but one thing they messed up on is the blade height. Even on the lowest blade setting, the 2021 doesn’t cut as low as the 2015 did. I suspect it is because the housing and shaft are set up to accommodate the 2-blade setup. However, EGO says that the LM2101 will not accept the 2nd blade. I wonder if I can add a few large washers between the blade and the housing ?

Thanks for the comment Bill. I don't know about lowering the blade with washers. I'm sure someone has tried so Google it. I have cool season grass and would never mow on the lowest 2 settings unless I'm trying to scalp my lawn to reseed. Otherwise I mow between 3-4 inches depending on the weather and I have been very happy with the mower.

That is what “sounded the alarm” for me because even on setting 1 the blade will not “scalp” any nominally high spots, whereas the 2015 mower would. So I’m pretty sure it is just a design change that has raised the shaft of the 2021 model in order to accommodate the twin blades of the 2135 model.

I think Ego may have figured out that having it mow really low drains the battery too quickly as you are cutting a denser area. The lowest setting on my mower says 1 3/8 inch. Haven't measured it yet but that seems too short for me even if I am reseeding and scalping. I almost wish they had a higher setting than 4 inch.

So the mower didn't require assembly right out of the box? That's the impression I got from the video, and you sold me 100% on this mower by the way.

No the mower comes fully assembled with the multching blade installed. I love the mower. The only time I’ve had to go back to my gas mower is after I dethatch. The ego doesn’t have quite the same sucking power.
