These technical talks are *phenomenal!* This is what modern motorsports governing bodies don’t understand - we fans *absolutely salivate* when we get to hear about electronics and such.
Yes although the governing bodies might well understand this, it's the teams that probably don't want to share too much on their current setups ;) - Taz.
THIS is what a lot of us want to see. Nitty gritty details, close ups of engines, interiors, various bits of tech that make these cars special. Keep it up.
This thing is nuts. Thank you for sharing. Apparently, they're keeping the spirit of motorsport in their maintenance program by using modern internal parts. That flat dashboard is beautiful. I like that they kept the fuses and relays.
Having spent 20 years at Mercedes-Benz retailers I can attest to the quality engineering of the M119. We had very few problems with the engine and it only got better with the introduction of EFI.
I would love to have worked at Mercedes in the 80's. Building big v10 diesel trucks, shoehorning v8's into normal cars, and building crazy turbo racecars. Must have been good times in Stuttgart.
this was a pure German engine, but when they returned to the F1 with Ilmor engine they disappointed us. complete British engineering cars and only the name Mercedes or not
Just discovered your channel. Really great stuff. The great thing about ‘historic’ sportscar racing right now is we’re seeing all the really exotic Group C and IMSA GTP cars finally hitting the track. XJR-14, 905, C11, C291, 767 etc. Also worth taking a look at the Endurance Masters series where the GT-ONE, Speed 8, R8, 908 etc. are running.
by far my most favorite race car. i could write a whole litany on the chassis differences and the infamous 400 km/h run...but I digress - THANK YOU for this video.
@@djremotion2 I'm thinking about doing a video about it, still have to find time for videos as I want to do them right, but, you're right I should share the "knowledge" haha
Great Video guy. This car is a Legend, especially with the M119 engine. I believe similar cars are running the Imor engine. If you get the change, do part 2 on the Engine detail. I think many people would appreciate that.
Omg yes one of my favorite group C racers with a in-depth look! If you can tech tour one of the Nissan group C cars r89c etc I would be grateful if you ever get the opportunity
Maybe next year. We didn't manage to get any more footage of it but Andre has been close to covering the R88 in the past - facebook.com/watch/?v=2145665848858857 - Taz.
God i HAVE to go to goodwood FOS and at least watch the members meeting from a far away poor persons hill. Bucket list.... if only i could get the insight a popular Aussie (Kiwi sorry)youtuber could
@@joelfager3839 welp fuck i fell for my american lack of accent knowledge again. Apologies to all the kiwi's out there. I shoulda known it did sound different than Aus accent slightly
Thanks for the kind words, we're really lucky to get time with people like Dave at events like this. On that note if you haven't see it already he also peddles a pretty sweet Audi up Pikes Peak: ruclips.net/video/TOBm9-9ntpM/видео.html No stress on the accent, it's a common mix up. Just don't call him Shirley - Taz.
The closest I'll ever get to this beautiful machine and that it is quite exquisite something about this era race cars has me fascinated well anyways I have a mini z (details are amazing) from kyosho in this exact paint scheme LOL
I remember reading I believe it was Road & Track magazine about these cars. It is very little known fact that Michael Schumacher was a Benz Factory Junior driver during this era before found fame with the Benetton F1 team. Jochen Mass has been in the US several times and competed in the original IROC series before it went to an all NASCAR format and died.
Why does Andre sound funny to me? For instance he says "mare-cedes" and "noyne" instead of "nine" Is it because he's a kiwi? I'm American so I don't really know what to make of his accent. Sounds different than an Aussie though. Awesomely stuff though, I love this channel! And this car!
Trust that we get as much as we can. At events like Goodwood we are legally not allowed to film any track footage which doesn't help the cause, but a video with limited B-roll is better than no video at all I think you will agree =) - Taz.
He doesn't understand how boost control works? Gee if you have to mitigate drivers resting feet on clutches, then they shouldn't be driving a car of this calibre IMO.
Even some F1 drivers rest their foot on the brake by accident. We might like to think we're all perfect 100% of the time at whatever we do, but we're not - Taz.
I drive the 510hp V8 4.0l engine in the c63 coupé. It feels kinda slow to be honest. It doesn't has that aggressive punch from 0 to 60 like the older 6.3l V8

Yes! So what happened to the 1 hour review of the Sauber C9 in Assetto Corsa? ^^
Good to see you guys with your notifications turned on here nice and early! Hope you enjoy this one.
Loving this series guys, the F1 stuff and le mans content is amazing
Yup loving these oddball race cars and their tech. Just wish i could see engines pulled apart
@Deftones we have a bit of that coming up too from this trip - Taz.

Love this. I've never heard of water cooling through the intake manifold, impressive innovation🤓😵
This thing has been my favorite Group C car since I was a child! So happy to get an in-depth look at this thing. Thank you so much!

Crazy how much more modern turbochargers and wastegates have changed over the years

Man I wish they still made sports cars like this. Incredible shapes and brutal engineering.
Great interview, want more detail shots of that engine compartment :)
I also would like more detailed shots of the engine during these interviews :)
Thanks very much for creating such high quality content! Love those detailed technical walkthroughs.
Cheers Roger! - Taz.
These videos are absolutely brilliant, keep up the great work.
Awesome vid as always! That race car is a piece of Art

Beautiful Car,
I was hoping the interviewee was a bit more knowledgeable of the systems on board.
I like all of the technical information but please mix that in with B-roll of the car.

I was hoping to hear about how you get a 5 liter engine to spin to 11,500 rpm to generate 800 hp. Shame.
