I saw the video title and about to watch the video but just thought I'd add this. If you or anyone is having a struggle with kickoffs there is a video made by nightryder and yes the video was a few years ago but it is probably the best kickoff video I have watched and I have watched a lot of kickoff videos since I play 1s ranked a lot.
As a certified diamond 3, I can tell you that what you want to do on kickoff is be faster than your opponent and get a better touch. Its just that easy
14:16 you blame your speedflip but it has nothing to do with it, Diaz telegraphs slightly to the right, after that his fate is sealed and the best he could hope for, if you take centremass, is to get a slight bit more central before contact or try to delay a little in the hope of taking it past you on the right, either option would be damage control. You need to either a) take centremass with single jump and block any forward angle b) get slight left of centremass contact to stall, flipping top left for the beat, top right for up and over or sideflip right for back right placement or c) take very slight right centremass contact (closer to the midline than him) and flip top left to beat him (and get roughly the same angle he beats you at). You also don't get high enough on the ball (again the exact same principle of centremass advantage but for the vertical axis) giving him the beat with a bit of air, being at almost 90⁰ to his touch but him having a more forward and upward angle. The weakness with going wide on kickoff is trading forward momentum for a beat with a less favourable angle, Diaz is very good at making sure he doesnt trade too much centremass for angle, which means you either need to match the opposite angle for a stall or be more central and flip through it for the beat. Focus on the angle he approaches and the point of contact; after the speedflip you made no adjustments and considering he had already telegraphed that he has left momentum, you should have been able to easily counter. I hope that helps 👊 Also: drive, driving, drove and driven ✅. Drived ❌. (Why did i pick the kickoff right before you said that, had to listen to it at least 10 times 😂)
Alright, hear me out: You normally do kickoffs that are perfect or nearly perfect, and that's what people expect, so they constantly know what and how to counter that. What if you mixed in kickoffs SO bad that they were good? Edit: were
I'm a champ 1, but I don't play ranked, when I play casual I face high gc's and SSLs. I've recently found Justin after I joined a random private match. It was probably the best I've ever played, easily better than most gc's (/SSLs). I won atleast 5 kickoffs against Justin just using the speedflip wavedash kickoff. And also scored on him twice atleast, and a few from kickoffs. My point is to just use the wavedash kickoff, since u at your worst is me when I played my best. U probably already have like 20k hours in the game but I say just keep practising them? 🤷 My point with the Justin thing is that me as a champ 1 (could be way higher) can still win kickoffs against a pro. So that would mean u can easily improve them probably. Btw, for people who think I lied, it was at 3am sunday, he had alfa boost and the nametag that is on the leaderboards. And the most obvious thing was that he was just going for everything with clean touches, it was definatly him.
@@cytro How the fuck dpes playing better than a pro mean I'm c1?😂 I'm used to playing high gc's and SSLs in casual, there is no point for playing comp when I already am on that level. I'm also not trying to waste my time on that bullshit😂😂
I don't know how to explain it through text but one thing I can say that helped me is watching replays where I found myself losing possession after kickoff and that helped my kickoffs in 1s a lot. Basically you gotta focus on forcing the ball to a certain direction, even if you "lose" the kickoff as long as it goes to your desired direction or to your corner then you're fine. Also practice kickoff drills with a friend that helps too.
app jack the reason your so popular imo is cause you give hope to a lot of people, you stay grounded and dont freestyle comps while playing its relatable! i watch few RL people you and a evample lol opposites for sure lol
Hello Jack. I was wondering if you still do replay analysis for twitch subs or something else. I want to do my teammate a favor. We are both high GC 1 and only sometimes peak into GC 2. But we are unsure what we do wrong. It would be great to hear an answer. ^^
Jack you have been through learning about kickoffs. Remember when you and Khalid had intense 1v1 games where you knew what kickoffs would work and what to do when. Just work off of what you know with your experience not us 😂
no amount of skill can counter someone with 170+ ping. The lag will make you miss 100% of the time. convince the devs to prohibit play when someone has over 90 ping.
I have not been able to play for 3 days on rl so I have been watching your videos jack and I have been analysing every thing you do right and wrong like vod reviewing and see what I may have done in my games and see how I can improve and I got to play today and I went from D2 to C1
I mean you could practice variations kick off with a friend in private matches or variate them in game. I mean you’re the pro, you know better than most. 😂
Don't go for speed go for stron touches, my advice is start with a speed side flip then start drifting and move the stick to 11 and down to 9 then side flip into the ball, the variation is the jump hold the jump or do a quick tap on x will help change pace but always get you wins on kickoffs
Stop speed flipping entirely and just drive at the ball. That's what took me all the way to plat 3 and then back down to gold 3 in the span of two days. Hope it helps!
At top level it’s all about unpredictability. Dark fakes like half his kick offs. My advice switch it up every time to keep them guessing and on their toes.
He hit the ball where Diaz can keep momentum and get ball and boost. If Diaz was a bit further left or lower on boost, it be good , but he gave a player with low boost a way out by choosing the worse option.
As a seasoned Diamond player, what you need to do is press jump, then quickly press it again, but slip off the button while still holding the wrong air roll and transition gracefully into an upside down grind up the wall, missing boost and giving your opponent a sympathy goal. It's pretty easy tbh mate.
Day 55 of asking Jack to unban me from his twitch 🔥 lol funny how when Jack first went pro he was known for his insane kick offs and now that’s one of his worse things
I really like Leth's method of saving a bit more boost than everyone else, which naturally results in a slightly delayed kickoff. I've heard pros talk about how his kickoff is always slightly delayed even recently - but it means he almost never loses it too badly.
It's delayed because he never bothered to learn how to speedflip xD although I haven't watched him for a couple months. Possible that he has practiced it since.
@@flurry7439 Do you even watch his videos he has always speedflip on kickoff for years, just doesn't boost all the way to supersonic, which is why his kickoff is delayed
As a coder, you can't legitimately fix challenges and kickoff because Psyonix can't and won't fix their glued-together-with-spit physics system, they talked about the physics interactions flip flopping two engines almost a decade ago at GDC. Wonder why momentum shifts especially on the ball don't make sense and feel random? Well they are! "Oops our two collision systems don't agree, oh well!". So your lifetime of understanding simple interaction mechanics will always brick wall unresolvably at their incompetent code creating phantom interactions. IT'S NOT LAG.
Asking for my help with kickoffs is going to unhelp.
