They’re all around harmonious and sound “accurately” powerful. And it seems to me Honda may have gotten a lot of their attributes from Mercedes, they share that growl and lift note but the Mercedes engine note seems tuned to a higher frequency, making the growl “tin-y” and metallic sounding. Kind of unflattering really. The Mercedes’ downshifts and lift fall somewhere in between the Honda and the Ferrari. And the Renault, well let’s just say I was expecting a lot more from them. The note is pretty midrange and honestly has no redeeming character to me, like vanilla. All in all which is my favorite? HONDA! ! ! What a racing car note! Angry, aggressive and I can only imagine how immersive those downshifts feel to the pilot. Ferrari is a close second though. You can really hear the perfect engineering 😍

Well, because both are turbo engines, of course they have a similar tone. It's basic physics. But that McLaren had the ability that neither of the current cars have: the ability to SHOUT, you know? It wasn't screaming like the N/A V10s, it was shouting through the whole area! You could hear the car WAY before it appeared to the eye. The hills next to the tracks reflected its sound, you could hear them exiting the pits - from the directly opposite part of the track, and it's something we will never EVER witness again in F1. Sure, F1 cars finally sound decent since 2017, but they don't raise your adrenaline, which is unfortunate, because currently the racing is also boring. Thus, there's not a single reason to visit the tracks, to watch them live.

In some way i can understand everyone crying about not having the old sound of the v8 or v10 era anymore but eventho they might have sounded more aggressive the v6 sound has a little more character in my ears. It's more dynamic from low to high pitch sounds. The old naturally aspirated engines were always high pitch no matter which rpm lol
Mercedes sounds the best for me. It's also the loudest. The low speed gargle/rumble reminiscent of that on Honda with the aggressive downshifts plus the wavy kind of sound it does when it is distant, damn!
The Renault sounds good also. I must say this since it doesn't seem like people appreciate it as much as it should. The low speed sound from the pit lane sounds so reminiscent of the 80s V6 Turbo's. Also, the Renault seems to have an aggressive wastegate. The turbo eats(vacuum) the sound on high rpm/speed.
Personally I like the Honda the most. Especially the Red Bull from 3:12 to 3:43. The Toro Rosso right afterward at 3:45 is pretty good too. I also love the way they sound when they're moving away from you.
I'm sorry but these engines are not a patch on the old V 10s. They sounded monstrous. I used to go to Sepang and get the same seat about the middle of the start finish straight. You could hear them behind you perfectly thanks to the design of the track and the roofing going flat out down the back straight. Down through the gears and round the hairpin and then flat out down the start finish. Pure symphony of sheer grunt
ok, I get that V10's sounded heavenly and I fully agree. but V6s, especially after 2017 season, sound in my opinion really good. I do enjoy watching FPs and every Quali session just to hear those engines. and, arguably, V6s are more technologically advanced that any other engine 'till hybrid era .
the v6 sounds more harmonious, the v8 sounds like they scream and the v10 sounds dissonant, maybe if the v6 has 2 exhausts they would gain a bit of that harsh sound, but I like this sound it has a different personality.

I dont suppose we are that far off of F1 being electric cars (electric cars are winning a lot of other races already)

Renault (Loud and Mean hope its reliable) 3. Honda (They could have taken the second. Sounded the same as Renault except the farting during lift-off )imo 5. Ferrari (i'm a big fan. Personally i think v10s were the best sounding but the v6ts are much more efficient and produce more torque, also the electric motor makes the racing a bit more complex which can be exciting sometimes
ferrari and mercedes are very intriguing, they are supposed to be the more powerful ones and yet they are quieter. Also, power in F1 comes from efficiency so not really a surprise

ferrari and mercedes are very intriguing, they are supposed to be the more powerful ones and yet they are quieter. Also, power in F1 comes from efficiency so not really a surprise
