That was enjoyable :) Congratulations to Lindswell, she deserved it with an amazing performance. They all did fabulous in my opinion. Yan Ning Vera caught my eye as both a cutie & an artistic performer, loved the style of wht & rd dress.

I study the Martial Art Goju Ryu Karate.Many of it's roots come from China.The Taigiquan forms are not used for fighting,although there are elements of Martial arts presented. The various forms are performed for health,and flexibility of the human body. A Taigiquan student learns correct breathing, body control, and how to move in a out of various stances with grace and poise. Hand and arm movements are slow and controlled. The Martial arts aspect, of Taigiquan is translated from the Mandarin Chinese as Push Hands. These techniques are done with an opponent. A Taigiquan student would only learn Push Hands, after mastering one of the specific forms.
You did not learn the authentic Taigiquan. What you've learned is fake Taiji. What you are watching here was designed strictly for stage performance and should be called Taiji “dance”. Authentic Taiji movements are boring and do not jump around or twist your body with nonsense movements. Anything else you described are not the main purposes of Taiji. Bare in mind that Taiji was an ancient Wu Shu for defense. The outside forms do not mean anything. I'm not sure if they taught you how to "fa jing'? Fa Jing is the beginning technique for fighting. You'd better not follow them if they don't know how to Fa Jing. Again, Fa Jing is not just pushing like Summo or Judo. Be aware! That is my advice for being practicing authentic Taiji for over 30 years. Not many can move me a bit when standing still.

taichi is derived from real martial arts, but aims at improving body flexibility, balance. It can be used as a preparation training before getting into real martial arts.
Taijiwuan is not derived from martial arts. It is a martial art. Anyone who says otherwise is misguided.

Only Lindswell showcased Peng Jin, the primary internal martial skill/energy of Taijiquan. She was the only true Taijiquan practitioner.
The others are just wushu artist. They were just showing choregraphed athletic performances, no internal force. It's beautiful but empty. It's not Taijiquan if there is no internal movements.

Very nice, but it's a pity that they have to embellish it for the audience - I noticed most of the moves that got applause weren't taijiquan. The problem is that the audience want to see things that look difficult, and taijiquan is supposed to look easy.
Robin Turner, You are exactly right. The jumps, and kicks have nothing to do with Taejiquon. They are added to satisfy the audience in Singapore. The various Taejiquon forms are supposed to be soft,and graceful. Even the Push Hand movements are slow, and use the opponents energy to redirect an attack away from ones own body. Push Hand(Martial Art Components of Taijiquan) are not ment to cause serious injury, they are used only to subdue the attacker untill the person being attacked can move to safety.
There are many forms of taijiquan. This is one of them.
