    I had the rare privilege of not only being a huge fan of Gino, but then having the opportunity to work for him. It was beyond a dream come true. I was on tour with the band in 1979. I started as a roadie and became one of his personal attendants along with his uncle Pasquale. (maybe cousin...it's been awhile) What a remarkable experience. What a wonderful family! What a life altering experience...because I learned about perfection and hard work, and how much that means. To this day Gino resides in my heart and head. When I draw my last breath, I hope I'm listening to Gino.

    Gino speaks with an intelligence that is rare. Back in the 70’s working in an extreme high end audio store, Gino’s albums were the default demo records. The music was great, but the engineering of the audio, and the quality of the physical vinyl records, the pressing, was extraordinary. Herb Alpert produced a product that was superior to anything else in the industry back then. We always told our customers that the difference existed because a professional musician owned the record company.

    • @maxi-me
      @maxi-me 4 года назад +3

      Interesting. I'm no audiophile, but as a life long vinyl collector I've noted a&m discs always seem to stand out. Alperr's 'Going Places' had remarkable fidelity for it's time and still holds up.
      As a teenager in the cassette saturated late 80s, I had noticed Polydor seemed to be the default choice for listening in car. Scandinavians and Germans always seemed to have that audio production thing down.

    • @davexxx5175
      @davexxx5175 4 года назад +4

      Yes, I agree. Gino speaks with a great intelligence.
      Also for me the albums that Gino did in the 70’s for AM records are awesome not only for the his great music (and singing of course) but also for the high quality recording. Many times I've thought what Gino and his brothers have done and, also for me, it was because Herp Halbert was a musician and he was also very close to the way of “thinking” music as Gino.
      And if you even notice how the musicians have played in those records (for example: Mark Craney, Jay Graydon, Jimmy Haslip, Carlos Rios ect.) is not easy today do the same thing because a record company problably could say: “…too complicated, forget it”.

    • @maxi-me
      @maxi-me 4 года назад +1

      @@davexxx5175 so true and sadly they don't even bother to pretend they're composing anymore. They just call it "making beats"; the actual 'music' is just digital ear candy in the background.

      @davexxx5175 4 года назад +1

      @@maxi-me - Yes, it's so real what you say. It's difficult to find a good composition ..now almost all the music is a "digital ear candy in the background". it's so sad but it's so.

      @Scorchinscotty 4 года назад +3

      Villaboy - Mark Craney was a master musician. And, let’s not fail to mention the nearly unknown-and absolute monster guitarist-Carlos Rios. Unbelievable talent in both of those guys. Jimmy Haslip on bass! And, one of my favorite sax men: Ernie Watts. (Who I finally got to see last fall, at the Baked Potato in Hollywood, with guitarist, Thom Rotella. And, Ernie was on fire!) Everyone who’s played with Gino has been phenomenal! And, I should say that Brother to Brother is an incredible album, and one of my all time favorites, for sure!! Nightwalker is also wonderful. A lot of Gino’s earlier albums, I want to get into, but just haven’t, yet. Probably, about time, I’ve only been a fan since 1978!

    Gino put the nail on the head for this one. So many aspiring artists wind up living from single to single dealing with the pressures of coming up with bigger, better single than the previous one. It's what kills a lot of great artists over the years. They become One Hit wonders and disappear from the radio waves.

    The first time I heard the Brother To Brother album was on a road trip with my brother Pete from NYC to Washington DC in 1978. I was hooked. I've always loved that album, and Nightwalker, and Black Cars. All I know is that I'm SO GLAD that I discovered him. I went to his concert in 1979 when I was a senior in high school and took one of my best friends with me and she turned into a Vannelli fan that night. It was an incredible show. I'd love to see him again but he doesn't tour in my area very often. Next time he does, however, I'll be there. And, btw, he was freakin sexy back then and still is. Gosh almighty! ❤❤👍👍

    Herb was the A in A & M. Alpert.
    I’ve like Gino since 1974.
    Saw him in May of 1974 on Don Kishner’s Rock Concert. On a Friday night.
    Heard People Gotta Move and I said this guy gets it.
    I heard Latin,Jazz, Big Band all together. At 18 I went WOW.
    Saw him at the LA Forum in 1976. Watched him perform like I was a music student.
    There to learn. I wasn’t watching a concert. I watched a young master at work.
    And here’s the kicker I’m not a musician nor have a strong musical background.
    I just absorbed the live music and notes played and lyrics sang like a sponge.
    I always had a sense of his ability to mix everything into his music.

    This cat here. The sisters in Chicago were feeling Gino. The Black community embraced Gino 100%. His movies gives me chills. So many great high school memories. Check out Mama COCO

    I just the Gino Vannelli. And yes, the single, I Just Want to Stop is my favorite song ever. There's a romantic feeling about it that makes you want to be in Montreal. I get senses that I'm standing there in the rain on a warm summer night.
