Yeah but that is not rotation, you basically stay in flexion and move the neck and head, that is not a backswing. First of all the spine is at the back of the torso and is going into a combination of tilting, extension and rotation resulting in the top if the spine facing the target. The bottom of the spine is facilitated by allowing the pelvis to drop a bit and turn, you will notice the left knee will come forward and is lower than the right knee. A false idea is that you can rotate around you spine, that is more an image than reality.

Did I say you rotate around your spine? Are you suggesting there is no rotation in the neck?

@@IanMellorGolf The base of the neck is subject to rotation itself, like Tom Watson described in the Secret in Lessons of a lifetime.

It is the rotation at the base of the neck I am referencing here. If you keep your eyes focussed on a ball while doing the exercise I show for most players this is a nice exercise to build awareness of this movement.

@@IanMellorGolf Totally agree, the point I tried to make was the you should not turn your head away from the target and your behind to the target in trying to accomplish that. The spine should remain in the same angle to the targetline as in setup while the base of the neck is rotating. The rotation of the base of the neck is compensated by a head rotating to the left compensating the base of the neck movement. I also think that therefor Jack Nicklaus first moved his chin a bit to the right when he initiated his backswing to allow for the movement of the base of the neck.
An easy way check is that if your shoulder does not get closer to your chin in front view then you basically stay in flexion.
