Yeah, goes to show how much the boss came to care for Carlos throughout the story, it’s the closest the boss has ever been pushed to becoming completely evil and utterly heartless. Carlos’ death was to the boss what Aisha’s death was to Johnny Gat
I just played through all of the saints row game and I had never played 2 before, it honestly felt ahead of it’s time, the comedy, the story, the gameplay, just being able to play co op and drive our cars with no distance restrictions? I wish they would just make an alternate universe saints row 3 that’s just a direct sequel to saints row 2
Imo i like Saints Row 3 more then 1, 2 but that just me mainly because of the nostalgia and those where the first saints row games I played when I was kid.
SR1 and 2's attention to the smaller details really really was ahead of it's time and some of it even GTA doesn't do, which is weird since they go for realism yet SR had it? Like two door convertibles having working back seats, drive-throughs/thrus, all add on mods to cars with lights, work. Plus, many other things that just made Stilwater feel so alive and unique.
Carlos proved himself in my eyes, he broke you outta prison and while his time was short he did what he could for the saints, I wish they woulda gave him more time or maybe expanded on the fact his cousin was a old Saints member

Honestly, as much as I loved SR2 as it was, I still feel a bit sad that Julius's story ended up like that. I felt like his betrayal wasn't really that well executed, and having us kill him in the second game, kind of ruined any chance of his story having any more follow through. Instead, I wish they'd kept him arrested and had us break him out 5 years later(in SR2). Saints Row 2 is one of the best sandboxes of all time. I remember using the Evil Cars, Pedestrian War and Low Gravity cheats for hours and seeing how long I could survive trying to walk across the city. Some of the best simulated chaos I’ve ever experienced
Its been so long ago. I remember in sr2 once you unlocked all your homies plus rando homies you can call them pretty much anytime. Which made you feel like a proper boss. In san Andreas I think it was only in certain missions. I could be wrong. Ssn Andreas is dope get me wrong. But once you control all territories and pimped out houses. Yoo they should remaster this.
I could fire up sr2 right now and have just as much fun when I played it as a teenager. Its timeless. Imho is easily one of the best games ever made in that genre.
It really says something, that only one faction doesn't have at least one cutscene that gives you chills every time you see it. Aisha's Funeral, Mercy Killing Carlos, and Making Maero Kill Jessica were all chilling to the bone, while nearly every scene with Dane Vogel was hilarious.
The good thing about the old games was that all the side missions were largely optional. That's a point they totally screwed up with the reboot. To progress in the story, you have to constantly "expand" and do the diligence tasks. If I am forced to do this, I completely lose the sense of enjoyment. What I love about the old games is that I can play the story at my leisure and then do one or two side missions in between as a change of pace.

1:32:30 I would like to point out that if you dig into the lore, Jules was actually the the co-founder of the VK's in SR1 with King. Jules helped found the VK's with the EXACT SAME MISSION AS THE SAINTS!!! Jules actually left the VK's not long after they made it big in Sunnyvale to start the Saints some years later after seeing the VK's turn into Los Carnale's that wore yellow and extorted the people they were founded to protect. So Jules running away is already in his nature, along with him blowing up the playa is a way to prevent the Saints from continuing after he left like it was with the VK's as the player, or Johnny, would have taken the lead and continued operations while fighting off Troy and the cops.
Well technically speaking you are suppose to do the Brotherhood story first as it is canonical to the story’s events. As it puts how the boss acts towards their gang in a different light. It is because they are worried that their other lieutenants will suffer the same fate as Carlos. So with that in mind the bosses attitude towards their other lieutenants is understandable and not so dickish. So if you do the Brotherhood story second or last then yeah the boss comes off as an ass
It also makes the Boss seem more selfish if you tackle the Brotherhood first, which I think is the intention. Considering that it's been a few years after the events of SR1 and the Saints are only just getting back their reputation, Maero's 20% offer is honestly a fair deal. But The Boss got too greedy.

Maero underestimated the Saints and let his pride get in the way. Both leaders worked off of pride and impulse and got their people slammed. For Maero, his girlfriend and best friend Matt. For us the player, Carlos Mandoza.
I have one more small issue with the game. There's not enough of Johnny. Since he stays in the hospital for few missions, missions of the other gangs can't feature him, which is a shame.
I remember playing this. One of the few games I 100 percented, and I was stuck for hours trying to figure out why I was missing a mission and finding the hidden mission was the best feeling I've had in my life
I have a fond memory of the Brotherhood intro mission, but first some context. I was just watching my friend play and he liked to use cruse control. So I cant remember how, but he got a bulldozer on that mission and drove it to the last check point. We go through the cutscene and at the end we were laughing at the implied threat. So as soon as the game loads we see a bulldozer charging right at us. We freak out, he rushed out of the way firing, we start thinking that there were going to be random assassination attempts on the PC. Then we see that there was no one in the dozer and he remembers that he had cruse control on when he drove into the check point. Good times.
I remember picking this up right around the time it came out thanks to a games magazine I used to buy wich came with a full guide for all missions, grind the hell out of it and enjoyed every second
I just realized that if dax sent masako after Vogel dies does that mean dax is now in control of ultor or is atleast in a high enough position to where he could seize power in the vacuum created by the death of all the execs would be cool to explore in the future
honestly i think the Ronin storyline is my favorite in the series, seeing Johnny just unleash on Shogo was both cathartic and sad, had they not gone the direction they had with the series with 3, i would've liked to see Johnny be someone the Boss has to reign in or keep level headed, have the man go from the affable knife jockey to a legitimately unhinged murderer
One of my few real complaints about this game, they should have made the different fighting styles unlock way sooner in the mission strings, or be purchasable from some kind of dojo. Doing the fight club is way more entertaining when you can do martial arts.
I got this game some months ago for my steam deck. I've been having fun with the game especially when it handles hybrid controller and mouse inputs so well (it makes gyro aiming so much more easy)
SR 2 is by far my favorite saints row the game was absolutely ahead of its time and i owe this game for putting me onto bands like paramore and mcd and discovering my music taste along side what i enjoy in games. obscene over the top mixed with serious tones *cough* yakuza
I still find it crazy that it's been 15 years since this game came out. I would've been 5 when this game came out (soon to be 6). I'm 20 now (about to 21 in about 6 months), and this game still holds up today.
I remember getting Saints Row 2 as my friend begged me to play co-op with him. Best summer ever, I'd played GTA but the humour/action was a perfect balance which they haven't matched since.
I found your channel through the saints row 1 video, been watching your other retrospectives since then, glad to see this one come out, I absolutely love this game to bits
Saints row 2 needs to be remastered in todays age. A newer version with better graphics and with the same gangs sequences. Truly ahead of it's time and a game that needs a lot more of appreciation on main stream media.
Another great video an loved the fact you kept the scenes with Carlos and Aisha intact makes those moments more impactful watching your video made me want to play this again it was such a good game keep up the amazing work
Been waiting for this one. This game is one of, If not my favorite. Soo many memories, and playing it was a part of my childhood. It has flaws, but it extremely fun and they don’t make it like this anymore. Thanks for the video on it.
I loved this game, it was a perfect sequel, it always hurts losing Carlos & even Aisha, they could of still been alive would of made the tone of saints row 3 better and more serious vibe but I guess to get a good game tht is is the only ways
I’d still like to see you do “Godfather 2” it is a relatively short game compared to the original and I’m pretty sure you can finish before the new Zelda game comes out as from what I’ve seen it might be even longer than BotW
You know The Ronin might have honestly won during the kidnapping of Aisha if Jyunichi didn’t have that honor when they kinda want Gat and Boss dead. Like, you ambush a home to kill the 2, have Gat be distracting killing one of your own, and INSTEAD OF SHOOTING HIM IN THE BACK, you fight him with a sword and stop anyone else from fighting him too. Even throwing your weapon at the guy about to shoot at Gat. If Shogo was there. He would have no honor and kill gat the first chance he gets (probably not at sword fighting though) Then you have the balls to get up in Shogos face and act like he is the reason the Saints are still alive. Yes you evacuated Shogos father, but you are the reason Gat is still alive. Junichi is such a bastard……
I understand why ppl who started w/ 3 claims it to be the best but 2 is leagues above anything the series produced. You pieced the story together perfectly at the end! Also, the fact it released next to GTA 4 gave it more of the infamy it deserves because it was overall a better game and The Boss would body Niko and his cousin
I played this game when I was wayyyyy too young but I loved every second of it. I was like 8 or so when it came out. Been one of my favorite games ever since! I really wish the reboot would have took the game back to a more serious tone with jokes sprinkled in.
This game was made when i was 2 years old… and now its one of my favorite games ever. I played it last year January, on my xbox one s. Now im turning 18.
I appreciate the Yakuza jokes you put in lol. I was listening to this with the screen off, and got tripped up hearing the noise when you introduced the Ronin characters lol.
The only thing I hated about this game was Julius was supposed to be on the run at the end of the 1st game. But they lost the files and came up with Julius betraying on the fly.
Oh my god I never knew that was the voice actress for Shaundi no wonder I loved her character so much, I have had a crush on that actress since I seen Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back as a young boy.
Just played this for the first time two weeks ago, and it's definitely a game I regret missing out on. Though even on console the game feels like it's being held together by duct tape, lol. Especially when it comes to any mission involving you being near the water as it makes the game absolutely chug. Overall though it was a fun experience and thanks for letting me revisit it again briefly and sharing your thoughts on it, most of which line-up with mine!
One way I'd have hid the Ultor epilogue missions surprise is have Ultor act as a 6th-10th star. Ex: Just going around on a rampage earned all 5 stars for the police, then you notice the top bar slowly start turning orange.

I honestly don’t understand why people keep shitting on the driving in GTA 4 as i thought it was pretty good and even better than in SR2 with how loose the controls are
Honestly it's the most constant criticism I've seen over the years for GTA IV, I think a lot of people just kinda let it stick in their heads as fact from hearing it so much. GTA IV is a ton of fun to drive in, and while I'll always be a bigger fan of SR2, the Saints Row series never really nailed a satisfying driving experience imo
Sr2 was 15 years ago?! Make me feel my age there. I remember sitting in computer class with my buddy looking at the reveal trailers when it was announced
so going from san Andres to gta4 had a stark realism difference as you said in your san andres video. personally as a kid i found saints row 2 to be right next to san andreas in fun value. came out a couple years later but theres never been a GTA clone thats come as close to the enjoyability of san andreas.

15 years later and still the best saints row ever I wish we got a remastered version of saints row 2
Good times.
I still remember burying that guy alive at the cemetary all these years later. Seemed like an incredibly brutal way to die.
Carlos you'll always be remembered.
Literally one and two were the only SR I even considered playing.
You have to do that last part before the end of the game. He just showed it last.
honestly i think the Ronin storyline is my favorite in the series, seeing Johnny just unleash on Shogo was both cathartic and sad, had they not gone the direction they had with the series with 3, i would've liked to see Johnny be someone the Boss has to reign in or keep level headed, have the man go from the affable knife jockey to a legitimately unhinged murderer
I was more hyped for this review than any AAA game coming this year
Same here. The AAA game market of today is nothing interesting.
This took me back to buying this on day one, the day after my birthday. Loving this retrospective Carlos
Man this video makes me wana play SR2 again... even though ive beat it like 6 times
Saints row 2 is such a classic game.
Even more legit coming from CJ himself.
A piece of my soul . I always give this series a go annually.
Ahhh, the memories. One of my favorite open world games.
(Love the Yakuza reference for the Ronin)
I remember getting Saints Row 2 as my friend begged me to play co-op with him. Best summer ever, I'd played GTA but the humour/action was a perfect balance which they haven't matched since.
Just wanted to say thanks for making these cool long videos for all of us to enjoy
Always save Fight Club once you get the Special Move Sets. Especially the Ronin one
makes Fight Club alot of fun
this is a very underrated channel keep grinding bro I love the content
He would have no honor and kill gat the first chance he gets (probably not at sword fighting though)
Then you have the balls to get up in Shogos face and act like he is the reason the Saints are still alive. Yes you evacuated Shogos father, but you are the reason Gat is still alive. Junichi is such a bastard……
It’s always a treat coming back from a shopping trip to see a new upload from you!
Man I LOVED Saints Row 2, such good memories this was a walk down memory lane.
Finally got around to watching this, it was excellent. I agree with nearly everything my man Fuzzyslippers says about the game.
I’d still love to see you cover Sleeping Dogs sometime, but honestly, I’ll enjoy whatever you do next. Keep up the good work, Carlos!
I appreciate the Super Thanks! Sleeping Dogs is on the horizon, just a got a few games to go through first :D
No problem buddy! I look forward to every one of your reviews/ retrospectives. I’m happy that you have gotten so many subscribers recently, too!
@@fuzzyslippersyt you, have good taste
bro pierce tryna sing so sick had me laughing every time
Oh my god I never knew that was the voice actress for Shaundi no wonder I loved her character so much, I have had a crush on that actress since I seen Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back as a young boy.

There is nothing in another one of these games that hit as hard as this did. Serious moments in comedy hit hard.
Still waiting for that official PC patch to release. Gentlemen of the Row is great yes however the game still randomly crashes for no reason.
One way I'd have hid the Ultor epilogue missions surprise is have Ultor act as a 6th-10th star. Ex: Just going around on a rampage earned all 5 stars for the police, then you notice the top bar slowly start turning orange.
Hands down the best one this is actually my first one then I played one after falling in love with this game.
Still the best Saints Row Game ever made. I really hope that a remastered version comes out in the future and for the first one
I’m glad all these videos are coming out on this game by far my favorite game ever since I was a kid
Saints Row 2, a classic…
Having discovered you today, man you have put in a lot of time into all these videos quite the work you are pulling here and very good video essays too!
I played this game when I was a teenager thanks for the nostalgia man!
Just to think i was 9 when this game came out, still play it to this day nostalgia is forever
Games good but man the radio stations were so good I remember just driving and flying around and listening to the radio stations ❤️
Yo thanks man i always wanted to play this game but im on pc so it bugged out now i know everything i missed this was great cant wait for the next video
I remember playing this game on xbox 360 and honestly it's alot better than the reboot and has that dark gangster vibe to it
I honestly don’t understand why people keep shitting on the driving in GTA 4 as i thought it was pretty good and even better than in SR2 with how loose the controls are
Honestly it's the most constant criticism I've seen over the years for GTA IV, I think a lot of people just kinda let it stick in their heads as fact from hearing it so much. GTA IV is a ton of fun to drive in, and while I'll always be a bigger fan of SR2, the Saints Row series never really nailed a satisfying driving experience imo
I have really been digging this channel!
Sr2 was 15 years ago?! Make me feel my age there. I remember sitting in computer class with my buddy looking at the reveal trailers when it was announced
I was supposed to be doing my homework on a Friday night but instead I was passed out listening to that sweet pause music
Thanks for all your awesome videos Carlos
Just watched saints row 1 and 2. Awesomeness videos and keep up the good work. Just subscribed
so going from san Andres to gta4 had a stark realism difference as you said in your san andres video. personally as a kid i found saints row 2 to be right next to san andreas in fun value. came out a couple years later but theres never been a GTA clone thats come as close to the enjoyability of san andreas.
55:20 made me laugh. Great retrospective as always
Only played three and four, absolutely love those two.
Favorite characters so far are Johnny Gat, Pierce, and Kinzie.
Yo, you're the 1st person I've ever heard bring up WET. Shame it wasn't really good, but the sound track slapped.
Throwing out - would love to see GTA Advance, Red Dead Revolver (I imagine you'll do the Red Dead series in the future but if not), and Call of Juarez (underrated gem of a series) covered on the channel!
You REALLY missed out on multiplayer and co-op. The community was never all that huge but it was super fun. Especially co-op with a friend!
This is my favourite game of all time. I just finished another playthrough and I'm working on finally getting a 100% save file for the first time and I haven't gotten bored once. An absolute classic.
Are you also going for all the achievements/trophies?
Really love your content I’ve been binge watching your vids since I have no better to do great work
So many fond memories of doing drive bys listening to Fall out boy and Panic! At the Disco
This is the best video game ever made in my opinion
I absolutely loved this game honestly think it was the best saints row classic gangster stuff it all got out of hand after this game!
I really enjoyed this video and I agree that sr2 was the best one of the series
