it is about their political views ... at one point they were accused of having fascist sympathies and they wanted to say they don't at all ... they are LEFT and very much so. Once, during a show, Till noticed some skinheads bringing the nazi salute. He got very mad, called them "scum" and had them removed bij security. Having grown up in Eastern Germany before the fall of the wall they value the freedom to be yourself in every possible way
"They want to see my heart on the right side, but when I look down I see it on the left". Stupid people were accusing Rammstein to be nazis, or right wing. So they made it clear with this song what they really are.
They yell hey or hai not heil because it´s a anti rightt wing song...the chorus says "They want my heart on the right spot but when i look down on me it beats left".
This song is so infectious! Makes me wanna march! I'm pretty sure they had it in their setlist when I saw them last month...its a crowd favorite bc of the "hey" interaction!

Rammstein were being accused of being far right Nazi supporters because of ... well, idiocy. So they wrote this in response, to say they are not - "they want my heart on the right side, but when I look down its on the left"
The way I remember it is that this song is a response to people claiming they were to the far right of politics with their song which they answer with my heart beats to the left.
Also, this is the first I've heard that Wolfman lost his memory.. hope everything's back to normal soon man. You guys are cute, have interesting discussions and I really enjoy your reactions.
You are very cool. I advise you to watch Rammstein's early performances. For example, bizzare festival(der meister, laichzeit) in 1996 or du hast and heirate mich in 1998. It's interesting
Yes, the title is also a German army marching song. It is the start-up chant for a company of soldiers to start marching on the left foot, and the beat is given by the speed of the 2, 3, 4 followed up. Each should be accompanied by a step. That's why this was another controversial song, just like Rammstein likes it. Controversy is what makes people talk about the songs, not just consume it. The military in Germany was always associated with strong autocratic leadership. The shout of Hey can obviously be easily misheard as Heil. Again, quite obviously fully intentional. But when it is combined with the lyrics it is extremely obvious that they definitely are not fascists.
You both make the best reaction.. this song means that Rammstein is not right... only left... so many poeple means in germany, Rammstein is rights meaning .. so only left .. 🙂
Flake doing synth, piano and other sound effects, just listen carefuly, filter out guitars and bass :) everybodies sound is all over the place its so matching. Sometimes less sometimes more.
for me as a simpel minded german, walking on a stage in france as a german group, back in 2005, like Till did ruclips.net/video/3b4szXcRFcs/видео.html ^^ *oh boy* // at least you could translate reise reise to "journey journey, everyone got it´s own" - like having in every part of the world an audiance to screm: "you hate me" is kinda n achievement Japan: ruclips.net/video/BVCUpOz7xv0/видео.html
Rammstein Cover “Stripped” showed Riefenstein footage which stirred up the German Press ( who are partially hypocrites) and in an exaggerated outrage cornered Rammstein into the Right Wing sceneries. The footage they showed in the video is used in Art Schools for training purposes but it caused a recall by MTV. The song links 1,2,3 was written to counter that they are nowhere near the Right Wing scene.
People are weird! I've read comments on other channels who react to Rammstein and I have seen some get so bent out of shape because the reactor looked up the translation to the song and/or meaning and they get attacked..."oh well you shouldn't look up the translation or anything about the song because now It's not really a real first time reaction because you know what the song is about!" And I've read comments that say "well you really should look up the translation and/or meaning of the song so you can fully appreciate it and know what they are trying to say..the message they are trying to send" so it's like your damned if you find out what the song is about and your damned if you don't find out what the song is about.. My philosophy...my thoughts...my personal opinions is do whatever you want...it's your channel...if you want to have the English translations/subtitles pulled up before during or after I personally don't care... I'm simply happy and grateful that you're doing Rammstein reactions and to me that is what truly matters. I sometimes wonder why some get so butt hurted over this? I feel that sometimes this might push some reactors away from even reacting to Rammstein because of some people who go off in the comments ... "How dare you look up the translation, it's not a real reaction if you know what they are saying!" "How dare you not look up the translation, you can't fully understand/appreciate the song if you don't know what they are saying!" 🤔🙄😒
You are so right, but honestly people are never really mean to us about it. We want to react to Rammstein so none of that will keep us from doing it because we love you all!
People are strange when you're a stranger 😄 I think it's good not to do the videos that contain translations or lyrics at all. Reading is to slow and distracts from the shown content. Reading the lyrics before or afterwards is not a bad thing but i prefer it afterwards. No need to attack someone but the internet is strange 🤪
@@SueSueandthewolfman yeah I'm so glad you'll really like reacting to Rammstein, I know I can check, but do you'll have Instagram? Or patreon? I'd like to request/suggest a few songs that I feel you might enjoy 🙂
@@CavHDeu yeah you're right about trying to read the subtitles and watch the video at The same time...i guess since I already know most of the lyrics and can understand a little bit German it's not so bad for me. I also agree that probably after might be better? I think it depends on whether or not it's a music video or live performance and the subject matter especially if it's based on a true story. I would say if it's a music video look up translation after and if it's live look them up before. I think songs like Mein Teil, Wiener Blut and weißes Fleisch are good to know before and other songs like Links 2 3 4, Sonne and Reise Reise you can wait till after...oh hey I'm sorry for this long reply..I'd make a terrible Short story writer! As many wrote, that was their political statement at the time. What is fasinating though, the different levels of messeging they use. At a first impression, it rather justifies their critiques who claim that they are fascist-band. The army style marching together with left, 2, 3, 4 suggest so. But with Rammstein often enough it is not what it seems at a first clance, one has to listen. The main lyrics are rather meaningless. A random list of German proverbs that deal with "heart" transformed into questions. But then in the refrain they make their point. "the heart beats left". Which is also the title of a book published 3 years earlier by the German leader of the social democratic party, Oskar Lafontain.
I commented this already on RichoPOV's vlog: In Germany some people suspected Rammstein of beeing right wing. To make things clear, they‘ve done this song. „Links“ means left in German, even in a political sense. Which is by the way the side, where the heart sits.

Starting with the left foot, two three four...etc.
Same with finnish military. Left, right, left, right, left two three four..links zwo drei vier...
