I did the math for like 4 hours last night and the best deal for fractional Gold are the 10 gram bars, the premium is low, BUT when in a crisis; who knows what will be easiest to barter off? … if I was guessing; I’d say the francs, the 1/4 oz coins or even the 90% 2 pesos coins
Part of the problem of course is the price moves so much. So if today I feel Ok to buy a half, and I am 100% convinced the price is going higher then I will buy today thinking the savings on waiting for an ounce is the lesser of 2 evils
I'm poor as hell so I buy what I can, and I do have a few very small gold coins. I liked the small Mexican gold pesos because the prices seemed good before the virus spread. But fractional coins and especially AGEs are obscenely overpriced now; I don't know who the hell's going to buy those gold eagles when they're sold for so far over spot.
I agree the premium on fractional gold is high. But it is more costly to not buy any gold. Any day if the week I can buy 1/10 eagle, 1 gram gold bar , but I usually don’t have an extra $2000 usd to buy a full oz at a time.
An excellent vid. I have lots of AGE 1/10 ozers. And most of my gold is in the 1/10 oz category. In the 1/4ish weight) I do have a few British sovereigns. But have toyed with buying the Rooster too. Looks like I may just start saving more to buy the AGE 1/4 ozers
I've found $100 bills to be useful when traveling, but I have a feeling that will change soon. Obviously bribes don't work the way they do in the movies, there is literally nothing stopping the bad guy from just taking the money and still doing what they planned, or if a cop, hitting you with a fresh set of charges for bribery. On the other hand it isn't like everybody in a poor country is trying to sell you to kidnappers either. Sometimes people get that you're lost and want to help you, but also are on the fence about trying to help you, bc they don't know what kind of trouble you might get them involved in, and conscience is easy to suppress if they think there's risk involved; A gram of gold is a large pro to a random civilian in a 3rd world country, but also doesn't scream "rich;" Though I still recommend the backseat. In most places US currency is defacto accepted, but in some places the locals avoid it like the plague bc it can get them killed if they're caught with it. Combine learning to not look American (it isn't hard if you're attentive) with very small pieces of metal that are worth something, and you have a last ditch "please take me to my hotel" bargaining chip even if your cell phone and wallet have been taken in a mugging or pick pocketing. I'm fairly racially ambiguous, quick to pick up accents, decent with languages, and pay close attention to local fashion and body language down to the expressions people wear, so I've been able to blend into alot of places, but YMMV. That's the only point I see in high premium over spot fractional size gold. Jewelry is way easier to get though customs without questions, but it's very difficult to appraise on the spot so it's less useful for this purpose.
While you mentioned it in passing, I think that this subject would be an excellent opportunity to discuss the 1 gram bar. I am extremely interested in price per gram, how many grams can you buy at a time and finally what the premium would be for each gram. Thank you in advance for your help.
Silver Dragons: 5/3/2023, I am just starting to buy fractional gold coins. I received a mail advertisement from Prestige Metals Exchange in Silbee, Texas for up to (3) 2023 $5 American Gold Eagles BU one tenth oz. 22 K gold for $249.00 each. With 1 oz. $50 American Gold Eagles selling for $2200 to $2300 or more, this sounds like a good deal. However, I've never heard of this company. Do you know if this is a company you can trust?? I would appreciate any information or knowledge you have about this company.
If you have a good LCS, you should be able to get gold, no matter the size close to spot price. I have purchase a lot of gold at spot price for the tiny ones (1/25th, 1/20th, etc). You need to establish a good relation with your LCS and you will be amazed at the deals you can find. Bullion dealers will always sell at a much higher price.
I just started buying metal, like maybe a month and a half, and have had good conversations with the LCS guys as they teach me some stuff. And I have been getting ASE for $2 over spot and small fractional gold at spot.
I love your golden rooster! Any idea where I might find one from a reputable seller? I have heard stories of places online selling fakes, so I’m pretty concerned.
I was able to pick up 10 Gold Eagles, one tenth ounce under spot. It was a "lost leader" offer to get you into their program to buy over priced slabbed coins in the future. Didn't work for them but did for me. Premiums are a issue with me. I guess I am just to cheep. I do like fractional's due to the shorter time period saving up to buy larger sizes.
Hey man your not cheap, just smart! I had a gold dealer that tried to sell me all of my $600,000 in purchase in fractional quarter ounce coins at $666 each that were Australian coins with no numismatic value over anything but bullion. I had told him that I had no education in gold so he tried to convince me that 1/4 ounce have a higher resale value. I told him that I wanted to buy only one ounce coins and he spent an extra hour begging me to by them, asking Don’t you trust me? And he tried to lie that I don’t have to pay taxes when reselling them because they were not reportable to the IRS. The price for these little coins was going to cost me $2664 per ounce!!! The spot price of gold this day was around $1930. I ended up buying one ounce Maple leaves for $2060 per ounce at a total of 292 oz. of gold. If I had bought the fractional the quarter ounce gold coins it would only given me 225 ounces of gold for the same $600,0000 giving up the equivalent of 67 ounces of gold for himself!!! $130,650. He was trying to legally rob me! Thank GOD I was smart enough not to allow him to get away from robbing me! After doing the math I now know why he sounding like he was crying on the phone saying I have been doing this for so many years and. You don’t believe in my experience? I asked him to explain to me why the fractional gold coins were a better deal and all he could say is the go up higher in value faster historically. He thought he could get me to believe his bs and I kept telling him that I could not understand his logic. He was so dam upset, he probably have bought a new car, paid off his house and taken a cruise around the world for the gold combination of gold coins he was trying to get away with. Thank god I am smart and CHEAP as you call it. I don’t want to make someone else rich on my hard earned money!!!
Buying fractional I have amassed closed to 3 ounces of gold in the last yr. So it takes me roughly 4 months (while also heavy on buying silver) to accrue an ounce of gold. I need to buy it as I can afford it because one ounce 3 times a yr takes a lot of time.
Anyway,, even if you buy fractional gold with high premium, right now the premium will still be lower than any silver from the same place. Used to be 10 oz silver bars had similar premiums to 1/10th oz gold, but now 10 oz silver bar sells for the same premiums as 1 oz silver ... so no silver is cheap right now.
In May of 2022, the Gold Eagle has the highest premium of all the bullion coins. I checked SD Bullion today for a quarter ounce gold eagle and the premium was 31%. The same size Britannia and Philharmonic was only 8.5%.
It might be a rip-off but the BOTTOM LINE is this: you wanna dance, you gotta pay the band, amigo. If u cant afford an ounce at a time, wait to scrape up the extra gravy. Unless u need to liquidate immediately (which means you prawley shouldnt have bought anyway) u probably wont care or remember the premium u paid. Great vid.
PS this is so Great!!!!!!!!!!!! if i had a channel and had followers I would do this subject.. If I may add one of the guys I follow uses a white board or chalk board to display these types of things ..it helps add to the presentation.. Great Job SD!!!!
The european gold is nice...i buy it too.. but yes, look at the total spread... what you can sell it for relative to spot Look at South African 2 Rands.. very low premiums sometimes
I was resisting fractionals for a while and would only get the 1 oz coins for a while but I decided since the beerflu to grab some fractionals once in a while and not worry too much about the premiums when I can find the decent deals, which can definitely be found. Still only have a tiny bit of gold but will be collecting more soon. I like having a diversity of sizes of silver so I figured some fractionals of gold ain't a bad idea either. I will probably stick to mostly whole ozs mostly unless I get the good sales. Some places where selling 1/10 ozs at spot last year, I think they were promotional 1 time only deals; not sure if anywhere is still doing that..
Hi please don’t take this the wrong way but at 2min 52 seconds when you were looking at the liberty side of the American Eagle there were tiny shiny gold flakes on you thumb i hope it’s not plated I would hate for you to get ripped off i hope I’m wrong I hope you don’t mind me mentioning it anyway awesome video thanks it was your finger on your thumb thanks
In my opinion its only overpriced if you're only planning on selling SHTF if youre sell any other time you should be able to get some if not most of that premium back out as long as you sell to a private individual!
QUESTIONS - I’m new to this so I’m sorry if this is a dumb question, but WHY do they charge more to make a smaller coin? I don’t understand. Also, what are all the costs included in the word “premium”? Is it just the cost of manufacturing each coin? Last, I’m confused about the difference between “rounds” and “bullion”? It appears that the word “bullion” refers to the non-collectible coins that don’t have a date printed on them? And are “rounds” just another word that means “bullion”?
Lcs is the way to go if you can. A few days ago I picked up a beautiful 1904 Sovereign at melt. He also offered me a very lightly circulated 1929 $5 Indian at melt, but I only had enough cash on hand for the Sovereign and some silver.
When you go to sell fractional gold oh, how much of a premium are you going to lose when you decide to sell them back, how much over spot will you pay to buy and how much under spot when you go to sell
Helviticas for me. Otherwise 4 ducats all the way. They're 23.5 karats and 3 fit perfectly in a ASE airtite. 9 ducats to an ounce, so easy to keep track of if you buy smaller fractions and fill 3 ASE containers and you have 4 ounces
It takes the same amount of effort to make a 1/10oz as it does a 1oz. Often times it takes more... Time is cost. It takes 10 times as long to mint 1oz of gold in 1/10oz coins. People want something for nothing... Just buy what you can afford.
It is VERY overpriced atm with everyone wanting to get into physical precious metals, my lcs had little 1 gram pieces of gold for 80 bucks a pop not a moment later tho they were bought up because of the demand
The best gold is the gold in your hand! I've been stacking tenths at 200$ a piece, but super grateful to even have any... The Biggins are too expensive to touch for me. Lil hint! Been putting lots of coins on layaway at pawn shops. After you come in a few times they give ya better deals I believe.
Generally, the "historic" gold coins aren't as recognizable, and they tend to sell better and for more if they are slabbed. Again, the premium on modern minted coins is the price you pay to expand your universe of possible buyers and your ability to transport and hide the coin, if necessary. As I've said in the past, concern over premiums should be attenuated by where you think the actual price will be in the future. If the ultimate price for Gold ends up being $3,208, you're going to want to pay more attention to premiums, especially if you're going to be buying a large number of ounces. However, the prices being discussed as real possibilities for Gold range from $9,000 to $60,000+ per ounce. And those are the reasonable price points that don't expect a genuine hyper-inflation, in which case we might as well say that the ultimate possible price is infinite. In that environment, talk of premiums is entirely superfluous. To my mind, the importance of any premium essentially runs inverse to the price of the coin. If the price ends up high, premiums matter a lot less. If the price ends up super high, then the premiums don't matter much at all. The best thing to do IMHO, is simply buy variety. But I do think that expanding your universe of possible buyers is/will often be worth the premium that you're paying. The last thing you want is be trying to sell your Gold, possibly on the down-low, but you can't find people, easily, who can actually afford it. As confidence flows out of the dollar, it will flow into other things. When that happens, governments will come for that wealth. They likely won't confiscate in a physical sense, but regulation and/or taxation will definitely matter. Smaller increments will be superior for avoiding certain unhelpful regulations or taxes than larger increments will be. Personally, I stick with one-quarter and one-tenth ounce coins, at least until I reach a certain milestone. After that, I'll branch out into other things, probably pre-33 American Gold and pre-48 British Sovereigns, MS-63 or below.
Where’s me gold. Lol I say buy what you can afford and don’t worry about the premiums. Be happy you can afford the fractional. Hey it’s Gold. And it’s all yours. 👍 enjoy it.
I bought myself an ounce of one tenth gold, it' was 117 English pounds each,, on 2017 it's now around 170 ,so not a loss And if I need emergency Cash, I'll use those first, sovereigs are excellent. Especially if you are worried about confiscation
Question. When it comes to selling back gold, do you think purity makes a difference as to the premium you will get back? Such as will a Gold Buffalo will be better to stack rather then Gold Eagle?
I would say no. Both have the same amount of gold in them but the eagle weights more since it has some other metals in it. Also AGE are always popular and very easy to sell.
It probably cost less the $1 per coin to mint. The US Mint needs to make it easier for small investors to buy directly. Their requirements to buy from the mint are ridiculous, designed to allow a few companies to make the markets in these coins.
Other than the fact it’s not backed by a sovereign nation, what are your thoughts on generic fractional gold bullion? It’s less premium and “true fractional”
Silver Dragons you’re probably right lol if you’re gonna fork over the money for gold you might as well go authentic vs generic. Hoping to add gold to my portfolio one of these days
So... I know that coin shops will vary in buy back prices because they are independently owned and operated businesses, but would you agree that if someone purchased a 2020 AGE today, they would be able to sell it a week later to your average coin shop and get at least spot price for it? More? Less?

as long as the premium isn’t that bad I say go for it! 👍🏽🔥🐉
I love gold dots.
lol the bigger the better 🔥🐉
I did the math for like 4 hours last night and the best deal for fractional Gold are the 10 gram bars, the premium is low, BUT when in a crisis; who knows what will be easiest to barter off? … if I was guessing; I’d say the francs, the 1/4 oz coins or even the 90% 2 pesos coins
Look at the Gold Standard coin from the royal mint. 1/4 ounce and stunning
the royal mint does have great products! 🔥🐉
Excellent analysis- Thanks 👍
you are welcome and thanks for watching my friend!!! 🔥🐉
Part of the problem of course is the price moves so much. So if today I feel Ok to buy a half, and I am 100% convinced the price is going higher then I will buy today thinking the savings on waiting for an ounce is the lesser of 2 evils
yeah buy when you can for sure! 🔥🐉
I'm poor as hell so I buy what I can, and I do have a few very small gold coins. I liked the small Mexican gold pesos because the prices seemed good before the virus spread. But fractional coins and especially AGEs are obscenely overpriced now; I don't know who the hell's going to buy those gold eagles when they're sold for so far over spot.
people are buying them... demand is high! 🔥🐉
Great topic to comment about bro thanks for your insight
thanks for watching my friend! 🔥🐉
You got a great deal on the sovereign.....they cost more than that in England where they're made !!
thanks and wow that is crazy! 🔥🐉
I agree the premium on fractional gold is high. But it is more costly to not buy any gold.
Any day if the week I can buy 1/10 eagle, 1 gram gold bar , but I usually don’t have an extra $2000 usd to buy a full oz at a time.
yeah some gold is always better then no gold!!! 🔥🐉
I do wonder why there would be an instance whereby the coin would sell under spot. Someone will pay the gold value.
you would think that. I guess it depends on where you sell 👍🏽🔥🐉
Jewelry is way easier to get though customs without questions, but it's very difficult to appraise on the spot so it's less useful for this purpose.
i have found .10 ounce to be very over priced with .25 ounce having the same premium as a full ounce in this area.
yeah 1/4 ounce seems a little bit easier to swallow the premium 🔥🐉
While you mentioned it in passing, I think that this subject would be an excellent opportunity to discuss the 1 gram bar. I am extremely interested in price per gram, how many grams can you buy at a time and finally what the premium would be for each gram. Thank you in advance for your help.
I do like my pre33 and European fractional gold.
oh yeah especially at spot!!! 🔥🐉
Bullion dealers will always sell at a much higher price.
yeah becoming friends with the LCS is a great idea! 🔥🐉
I have a good LCS and you CAN get great deals!!!
I do like fractional's due to the shorter time period saving up to buy larger sizes.
always gotta snag those deals!!! 🔥🐉
Congratulations on buying 3 ounces of gold in a year! That's very good!
still much better than most!!! 🔥🐉
Love the Vreneli
Anyway,, even if you buy fractional gold with high premium, right now the premium will still be lower than any silver from the same place. Used to be 10 oz silver bars had similar premiums to 1/10th oz gold, but now 10 oz silver bar sells for the same premiums as 1 oz silver ... so no silver is cheap right now.
In May of 2022, the Gold Eagle has the highest premium of all the bullion coins. I checked SD Bullion today for a quarter ounce gold eagle and the premium was 31%. The same size Britannia and Philharmonic was only 8.5%.
Just really starting to get into Gold. Have to hit fractional. To wet my whistle. 😁🇺🇸
lol get it! 🔥🐉
Another HIT video right here. Nicely done 👍👊💥🔥🐉
thanks so much ripples! 😁🔥🐉
Great vid.
yeah if you gotta liquidate immediate you messed up 😂🔥🐉
Silver Dragons 😂
PS this is so Great!!!!!!!!!!!! if i had a channel and had followers I would do this subject.. If I may add one of the guys I follow uses a white board or chalk board to display these types of things ..it helps add to the presentation.. Great Job SD!!!!
that is a great idea with the chalk board 👍🏽 thanks for watching my friend!!! 🔥🐉
@@SilverDragons47 it was my pleasure... Keep up the good work!!!!!
The maplegram 25 is a decent premium on fractional gold
yeah i’m looking at one of those for sure! 🔥🐉
Just watched this while getting a professional enema done!
The european gold is nice...i buy it too.. but yes, look at the total spread... what you can sell it for relative to spot
Look at South African 2 Rands.. very low premiums sometimes
If I already started a tube of 1/4 oz then should I finish that tube or go right to 1 oz if I can afford it?
How about gold nuggets?
Fractional coins are just easier on the wallet plus flexible if you need some quick cash but don’t need to sell a whole oz worth
The Eagle are 22k but still 1 toz of gold, plus the other metal. Some people confuse that and think 4 9’s is move gold.
Some places where selling 1/10 ozs at spot last year, I think they were promotional 1 time only deals; not sure if anywhere is still doing that..
yeah if you find good deals on fractionals buy them for sure!!! 🔥🐉
👍⚪👍 fractional is good to getting some in your stack easier to sell smaller piece if needed in a pinch🎇💥✳️🔥🎆
oh yeah never wanna sell more than you need to! 🔥🐉
In my opinion its only overpriced if you're only planning on selling SHTF if youre sell any other time you should be able to get some if not most of that premium back out as long as you sell to a private individual!
that’s the truth! 🔥🐉
He also offered me a very lightly circulated 1929 $5 Indian at melt, but I only had enough cash on hand for the Sovereign and some silver.
wow what a great deal!!! 🔥🐉
When you go to sell fractional gold oh, how much of a premium are you going to lose when you decide to sell them back, how much over spot will you pay to buy and how much under spot when you go to sell
Bought a 1 grain maple leaf for $77! Tiniest little coin I have ever seen...what is a fair price for that? I feel ripped off! PLEASE REPLY!
Rita Doyle: I think you meant 1 GRAM, not 1 GRAIN ? The current (July 4th 2020) spot price per gram is US$57.1 / £45.8 / 50.8 Euros.
it’s a high premium but hey at least you own some now! 🤷🏽♂️🔥🐉
Looks like 2021 pre-order are cheaper than 2020. Does it make sense to pre-order the 2021 to get a better premium?
and yet, I keep thinking, who is going to buy your 1 oz at $5000...
In 10 months i got 1 oz bufflo and 1 oz eagle . Might go. 5 oz next but one thing for sure i love gold
Can you make a video review on your thoughts of OneGold and buying digital precious metals?
I am not a fan. I probably will not promote that but thanks for the idea! i’ll think about it 🔥🐉
Idk why people say pieces “hold their premium” everywhere I’ve seen pays spot or just below no matter what it is
You know those 1/20 coins are small when I can see the detail of Silver Dragon's fingerprints! : )
Helviticas for me. Otherwise 4 ducats all the way. They're 23.5 karats and 3 fit perfectly in a ASE airtite. 9 ducats to an ounce, so easy to keep track of if you buy smaller fractions and fill 3 ASE containers and you have 4 ounces
great options for sure!!! 🔥🐉
It takes the same amount of effort to make a 1/10oz as it does a 1oz. Often times it takes more...
Time is cost. It takes 10 times as long to mint 1oz of gold in 1/10oz coins.
People want something for nothing... Just buy what you can afford.
yeah more cost but i’m sure once the machine is going it goes pretty fast 😏🔥🐉
Second hand sovereigns is where it’s at for me. 7% premium which isn’t too bad considering I buy half sovs
.1 eagles going from 200 at shops. Not to bad. The stack um while you can. If you think its high now wait couple of years down the road
I was able to get a 2020 for 200$ at a local LCS!! Got the last one too :’)
gold does have a lot of potential for sure!!! 🔥🐉
Check out universal coin prices for gold... it's usually cheaper than everybody else but they do not have a big giant selection
yes and they will call you to sell you overpriced numismatics 😂🔥🐉
It is VERY overpriced atm with everyone wanting to get into physical precious metals, my lcs had little 1 gram pieces of gold for 80 bucks a pop not a moment later tho they were bought up because of the demand
wow that is insane!!! 😮🔥🐉
Dragon, if that is all you can buy, buy it hold it hoard it!
The best gold is the gold in your hand! I've been stacking tenths at 200$ a piece, but super grateful to even have any... The Biggins are too expensive to touch for me. Lil hint! Been putting lots of coins on layaway at pawn shops. After you come in a few times they give ya better deals I believe.
lol i’m buying all I can! 🔥🐉
After that, I'll branch out into other things, probably pre-33 American Gold and pre-48 British Sovereigns, MS-63 or below.
yeah I really wanna get some more pre33... the only stuff I had I traded 🔥🐉
Where’s me gold. Lol I say buy what you can afford and don’t worry about the premiums. Be happy you can afford the fractional. Hey it’s Gold. And it’s all yours. 👍 enjoy it.
I am enjoying it 👍🏽🔥🐉
I bought myself an ounce of one tenth gold, it' was 117 English pounds each,, on 2017 it's now around 170 ,so not a loss And if I need emergency Cash, I'll use those first, sovereigs are excellent. Especially if you are worried about confiscation
they are great to have if you need them!!! 👍🏽🔥🐉
I found a smaller fractional coin at a local dealer today, 1/25 ounce for $80! 2002 Gibraltar Cherub Angels .9999 1/25 oz. Gold Royal
that is awesome those small gold coins are fun! 🔥🐉
Yes, you will pay more for a buffalo and get less back.
I would buy whatever is the most liquid and currently that’s the AGE 🤷🏽♂️🔥🐉
@@SilverDragons47 using your logic.. buying the 1 /10th oz AGE is the most liquid. Even though we know your highness looks down on fractional gold🙇♂️
you miss one out 1/15 ounces
If you think fractional gold premiums are high, wait until you see the premiums on full ounce and multi ounces of silver.
If you were to sell to anyone other than a dealer, you still pass on the premium
Half sovs are just a hair over the price of tenth ounces, imho they're worth considering
hate seeing these old videos
and hearing the damn price
i feel like the 10 gram bars are the best split for me between premium and overall price
yeah those are a good option for sure! 👍🏽🔥🐉
100%
It probably cost less the $1 per coin to mint. The US Mint needs to make it easier for small investors to buy directly. Their requirements to buy from the mint are ridiculous, designed to allow a few companies to make the markets in these coins.
yeah i’m sure the minting costs are low but there are still shipping and handling costs 🔥🐉
I have $28 in eBay Bucks right now... my question is should I use that towards a 1/10 Oz gold coin or should I use it towards silver....
whatever you have less of. 😏🔥🐉
That wasn't a dos peso, that was a 2.5 peso, the 2 peso does not have hidalgo on the obverse, never the less that 2.5 was in great condition.
yeah I realized that after the video... it is nice for sure! 🔥🐉
Other than the fact it’s not backed by a sovereign nation, what are your thoughts on generic fractional gold bullion? It’s less premium and “true fractional”
yeah I think it can be a good option. probably slightly less trusted but who cares if you are selling to a dealer in the future 🔥🐉
Silver Dragons you’re probably right lol if you’re gonna fork over the money for gold you might as well go authentic vs generic. Hoping to add gold to my portfolio one of these days
The most popular gold bullion coins are...1st, 1ozt coins and 2nd, 1/10th ozt coins ...according to research I've found online and in person at shops.
which makes the 1/4 ripe for the picking 😁🔥🐉
@@SilverDragons47 😂👍that's one way to think about it.
Why does the gold look like brass/cooper mixture?
because it’s 90% 🤷🏽♂️🔥🐉
@@SilverDragons47 Most gold supply is salted. My gold from the 90's does not look so tainted. Very suspect bro.
Jeremy El Malek Bey it’s part gold part copper... not from the 90s
@@SilverDragons47 stop the denial bro. You know it's salted just like the history of the occidental. I rock with you but man up.
Jeremy El Malek Bey lol it’s still gold
bro
So... I know that coin shops will vary in buy back prices because they are independently owned and operated businesses, but would you agree that if someone purchased a 2020 AGE today, they would be able to sell it a week later to your average coin shop and get at least spot price for it? More? Less?
I've never been to a local coin shop that didn't pay at least spot on gold and silver.
you could sell it for at least spot I would think. probably more right now 🔥🐉
Buck Roger wow you live in a great area 🔥🐉
