I'm from NY and used to be a "club hopper" back in the 90's. I was in a club one night called Webster Hall, it was a club with multiple floors, and each floor played different music. Depeche Mode happened to have a private party for an "after" concert on one of those floors. I, I still don't know how or why, was approached by a Brit guy who asked me, out of hundreds of people in the club, if I wanted to meet Depeche Mode. Of course I said yes. He took me to the floor of their private party and let me through. And there I was, partying amongst the members of Depeche Mode. Still so surreal when I think about it. How I got so lucky, I will never know. One of the perks of growing up in NYC maybe? Who knows?! Mind you, it was "innocent" fun. I was just at a party, with a lot of other people, a 20 something year old, just star struck and shy (I only conversed with Martin Gore briefly), but it was still a memory I will never forget.
@@musicaddict5076 No, they played at a big venue. They were only there to party afterwards. Unfortunately, I never saw them perform live. I have seen other "new wave" bands play, just not them. The Cure, Love and Rockets, The Pixies, Nitzer Ebb, Howard Jones, Public Image Limited (PIL), U2. I also loved my 80's hair bands and saw a few of those concerts as well. I loved, and still do, all types of music. Whatever concert I could get my hands on, I went to. Wasn't easy to get tickets back then, I'm sure now too but haven't been to a concert in ages, lol. Ah, the memories!! Hopefully, in these trying times, live concerts will eventually come back. I feel my teenage boys are really missing out on something I have always held special in my heart!
I believe Martin was living in Berlin when he wrote this. East Germany and West Germany were separated by a wall. I believe this song was really about how the two sides didn't get along and had different beliefs. This song is just as relevant today!
I wonder if People Are People was written due to any experience Martin Gore and David Gahan (both are British) may have encountered as Martin Gore is African-American and David Gahan is Malaysian, while growing up in England.

Amazing story Audrey! Thanks for watching and sharing that memory. Did they perform as well? Must have been awesome.

Yes I hope so! I’ve been to many concerts with my daughter. Again thanks for checking out my channel and hope you stick around. Take care!

Please sir could you react to The Smiths - Paint The Vulgar Picture
The Smiths/Morrissey also among my favorites. I’ll react to that one when I get up to them.
