  • Join PTES Project leader, Matt Parkins, as he walks us through an ancient woodland in Dartmoor.
Matt helps the Woodland Trust on their major ancient woodland restoration project at Fingle Woods in Devon. Home to many wild animals, Matt’s particularly interested in ensuring that the restoration work benefits the hazel dormice that make their home in the woods.
Working alongside the National Trust, Matt is part of a team working hard to ensure the gradual return of native broadleaf woodland in the beautiful Teign Valley in Dartmoor.
(Please note, Matt Parkins is a licenced dormouse handler. Dormice are a conservation priority species in the UK and a European Protected Species. A licence from Natural England (NE) and Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is required to disturb them.)

Thank you for all your excellent work! 👏 I think that your efforts and successes should be publicised more so that other people are stimulated to emulate you and actively take care of their natural environments wherever they are.
You truly are gentle-men (and gentle- ladies 😊).
