CUT & FINISH With The Rotary Polisher! Part 2! The Results!!

- The rotary polisher is the scalpel of our detailing arsenal here at Apex Detail. This video shows how we take advantage of its cutting and finishing power on this C5 Z06 Corvette. Tis is the finale of the short series and shows the results you were waiting for!!
A rotary offers greater cutting speed, which is very handy when you are either short in time, need to achieve much result on a large surface or have a very badly damaged surface to correct. However, this comes with a price. The increased cutting power makes it easier to cut more then is needed. If you are un-experienced with a rotary, it is easy to polish away more paint then is needed, increasing the risk of burning through the paintwork. This is a very costly mistake to correct. The rotary doesn’t have a forced or free rotation movement, such as the DA. Eliminating the risk of making the machine stop moving. This can sometimes be useful in small spaces. Because the machine doesn’t have any “throw”, it can be more easy to work very close to an edge or sharp corner.

I'm not a professional, can I take the seminar to learn, and have fun? I think it would be a very cool experience !
No fluff, just pure skill. Thanks for sharing
The rotary is indeed the Scalpel in the Arsenal of detailing. Corvette looks amazing, and the shop manager walked by at 6:07 and KEPT walking 🐕 so I can only assume it has met with the approval of top management. 😁 👍🇨🇦
Excellent tips filling in the scratches with paint and wet sanding, thank you Brian!
Thanks for your transparency on this Brian.
Awesome job on that paint, Brian. Does my heart good seeing someone who's not afraid of a rotary buffer. Been using one myself over 30 years. That Vette looks good!
Brian, your skills, knowledge, and patience, are amazing.
Best detailing channel on RUclips by far 👌
I am the best ever on the planet
I am the best ever
And you all are the best Audience ...by far! :)
@@apexdetail85 Thnx Brian ,keep up the great work, I have owned my detail shop for 18 Years and still learning
After watching your Rotary series, I went to HF and grabbed a drill master rotary. I tried to use that massive 7 inch rigid backing plate and it felt like fighting a bull. Ordered a 5 inch flexible backing plate. I have been fighting with swirls for a while now using my DA polisher. 2 passes with the rotary and BOOM they were gone. I love the rotary thanks to your channel.
I was scared to use the rotary until I saw the video you did with that fender and how long it took to burn through. All my worries went out the window after that. Thanks for making all your videos! They are straight to the point with no fluff!!
Thanks again for all of your advice.
Never been this early to any video.. 😅🤣
I haven't even watched it yet but I already know that it will be a great video. 👍 Great work as always Mr Brian.
The rotary is always a great tool in the right hands.Beautiful job Brian.
Saved the owner a bunch of money while preserving the clearcoat 👍
Brian looks like he's performing surgery on that car with that tiny syringe, lol.
Great job as always 👍
Amazing results once again 👏! Nice to see a rotary in use for both cutting and finishing.
Amazing work Brian. Much respect for your work from me here in the UK.
Great to see other Brits watching Brian's videos. I sometimes feel like a invading foreigner, being from England.
Love all things rotary and all of your how to polish videos. 👍 Also much love to the shop manager. 😄
same here love the shop manager lol. she looks so chill.
Great job Brian
Great Result given the challenges you were presented with around the wheel arch, sadly after returning to my car only 30 minutes ago shopping for my mother I now have very similar gouges in my front near side door so, thanks for the tutorial, it certainly fits the situation & certainly was for the best the a-hole he/she wasnt there when I returned as livid doesnt come close, I am seething. Its now time to start taking photo's of who Im parked next to in future so I can return the favour with interest. Why people dont give a shit about others paintwork totally escapes me, this was no accident.
Excellent job, I love doing that as well. Have a fantastic day Brian!
From what is was and the way it looks now ,"Great Job" !
Wow what a difference in the way it looks with some polishing! Great job my friend. Always look forward to your videos! Well done ✨👏
One More Great Job 👏🏼
Well beyond what I was expecting!! WOW!!!
Cheers!!
Nice one. I picked up a pair of rotary polishers a couple of years ago now after watching your videos on how to use them and made a decent job of my A3 with them. Never touched a polisher before and it wasn’t too big of a deal. I found the foam pads, especially the medium to thicker foams a pain in the ass to control and to be honest they don’t cut that much. If I had settled with a DA using foam I wouldn’t have got anywhere. I found using wool for cutting and finishing off with the red finishing pads to be the best combo for my situation.
Amazing work!
Another terrific video! Thanks for sharing this! Cool Z06. Mine is an '04 in Torch Red/Mod Red interior. Maybe I'll come visit You some time.
If you were in my area I'd definitely have my classic truck at your shop
Road Trip!.
Like magic - wow, what a job on that fender!
Looks beautiful!!
Brian your like a surgeon with that needle filling in those scratches. And probably the best one on RUclips with the rotary polisher. When can we expect your product to be available again on your website everything is sold out and I need to replenish my arsenal.
I enjoy the content ✊Thanks Brian
Hey Brian, general question here. When do you pull out the rotary and when do you pull out the DA? Majority of the time I’m doing 1 step corrections.
Great series. Thanks for putting it together for us.
Crucial finish
You are the master of scratchesI really like your work
I am ALL cordless…..I have Flex 6 inch 15mm throw, Flex 5 inch Gear Driven 8mm throw & Flex Mini PXE
Just got Flex 6 inch Rotary but not used it yet…
As a starting point what pads would you suggest I use as Rotary novice?
Note: If I was in USA (UK) I would be at your seminar in November like a shot
massive difference! looks amazing great job!
I see shop Mgr keeping a eye on progress. Looks like she just got groomed.u never dissapoint. Awesome video and tutorial as always. What was wait time after u filled in scratch with paint?came out awesome. Shocker..lol.b well good friend
Master Class in session ✅
I found with a rotary the depth and finish are just better with a rotary! Still working on my skills with one... 🤙
If possible do a new “Glove Box“ subscription video. This past September subscription is a very exciting one.
I had the same idea about the little plastic bottles over a year ago and they work great. 👍👍👍
Pretty Kool the way the Blue wool pad was taking the contour shape of the rear section, smaller backing plate with a little larger wool pad sure changed the way i use it! so much better control! ps: love the turnout with the scratch repair
Absolutely...cheers!
How long of waiting 2 wet sand after u filled scratches with paint?2 hours minimum?
First great video buddy tfs
Awesome, especially loved the paint filling section and results. Would love to have a clue as to how much clear you had to start with and finished with on that scratched up section you wet sanded..
Have you booked any more future class times yet ?
November will probably be the last of this year with many planned for next year.
@@apexdetail85 I was looking to see if you had a date or two for next year. I can plan around to attend.
This is awesome!! It gives me hope for deep scratches😀 I'm gonna get some color match paint for the van.. brake out the ShineMaster M1000 and fix some nasty scratches..I'm not out much if I fail... it's a 180000 mile pos test panel 👍🤓
This part was very informative. I would have like to have seen how you did inside the tail lights and the emblems and the tools you used Keep up the. Great service for us new bees
Rotary extensions....I will cover them soon.
You said it isn't perfect but I can't find even one imperfection!
So Brian got a question for ya..
Out of all the RO polishers that you have used over the years, what would be to absolute best that you would recommend buying
The Flex PE 14-2 140 Rotary
I have watched your headlight restoration videos and I was hoping you could tell me where you get your sanding discs. I can't find Trizact 2000 3" Amazon etc. Thank you.
I get them at a local parts store. You can also buy the lager ones, Trace the 3 inch backing plate, and cut them to fit.
@@apexdetail85 Thank you sir, love the videos their extremely informative. Take care.
Great content as always. I’d like to see a video that only focuses on edgework.
You mentioned 2000 and 3000 grit. Did you use the 3000 after applying the touch up paint?
In this order...2K then 3K, then polish out from there.
Thank you Brian! I'm really enjoying the rotory alot. Glad you're continuing with rotory based vids.
Where did you get the thick backing plate?
Its a 3M 09552 Perfect Fit.
@@apexdetail85 Thank you Sir!
That looks great! I need to master my rotary. Question: is there a difference between rotary pads and D.A. pads? Thanks Brian.
You can easily and successfully interchange them with no problem.
Could u have taken that wet sand markes off with the DA polisher
Of course. Any polisher will do the trick. Be longer though.
If I have megs ultimate compound, do I need to use it first before my turtle wax ceramic polish and wax? Or can I use the polish and wax by itself? I'm asking this because I just got an official polisher this past weekend and I just want to do this right the first time. If you answer, thank you. If you don't, thanks for reading.
It depends on the imperfections you are trying to remove. If light...the polish and wax should work.
2:54 Using a needle to distribute the touch-up paint is a great idea.
Awesome video I was wondering where you got your wheel covers and the ones you do on detailing so you can spend the wheel
Harbor Freight.
C5 corvette is hard paintwork or soft?
It can be hard and stubborn.
What stool are you using? I bought the DeWalt, but it was way too tall. Thanks!
I believe this one came from Harbor Freight.
Hi I've seen the video you did with turtle wax ice interior cleaner & protectant ok I wonder if you can answer this question
Once you have used this how long dose it last or ie when can you go over it again .
An what would you use or can you use a cleaner again
I ask this as I got a bottle after I sew the video an only just used it on a friends car
All the best
I would use it again every few weeks to freshen it up...and keep that interior fresh.
Nice work Brian 🙂. Just wondering, was that wool pad a 6"? Attached to a 5" backing plate?
Yes...I like wool pads to be slightly bigger than the backing plate. But only wool pads.
@@apexdetail85 thanks buddy, that's a new one I heard, i would love to try that setup one day. Now browsing a 6" wool pad😊.
I loved the content! When you used the touch up paint, i noticed that you didn’t cover it up with the clear coat. Is there a method to your madness?
I mix the clear with the color.
@@apexdetail85 50:50?
I haven't been able to find those blue LC hybrid pads lately. Are they still making them.
I believe I just looked at some on Autogeek.
@@apexdetail85 Thanks Brian.
This shop hinges on the shop manager!
Just picked up an m550 and m1000 maxshine.
Cheers!
Where do you get those sanding blocks?
Left over from 3M headlight restoration kits.
what speed you cutting and polishing on?
Between the 3rd and 4th speed setteng....no higher.
@@apexdetail85 ok so you can also polish in the 4th speed as well? Im jusT asking because i heard someone else who's not a professional in paint correction say you polish on low speeds
Nice
What polish did you use?
Koch Chemie H9...then M3 02
Koch polishes are great
I have the same car I have to do this to my car its bad!!!
Love your simple, laid-back, but very professional & informative vids Sir!! We need to see more of your adorable Shop-Manager tho'!! Such a Sweetheart! Can she deliver you a pad or towel sometime?!😍😁
We have a Sammie (Samoyed). See my avatar pic.
👍👍
Where in Pa. are you located?
Wernersville, pa. Outside reading. Worth the trip!!!! Trust me
I'm outside Philly. Around 1:20 time. The corvette in the video is mine. Well worth it!!
Nice. Did you get to work on it as well, or did you just deliver it to have the cut and buff done?
I dropped it off to have the work done. Been following him for a couple of years now. Was long overdue
@@matteverlof1431 Yes, I've been a subscriber as well for a couple of years. I've gotten pretty decent on my own, but FWIW, I would have dropped your Vette off with him as well. Black with deep scratches is beyond my pay grade. I thought possibly that you may have attended his training class. Enjoy your "new" ride. It sure looked from this vantage point. Save the Wave👋
When I first get deep on rotary I never left it. Newcomers should really try this at first instead of a DA cause its "safe"..
Great job Brian
Thanks!
