YAY! You’re back! Show us the books! What a wonderful, eclectic collection of books. I look forward to reviews of the individual books. Thanks for sharing! 😀
I appreciate you watching ❤.
It is amazing that you have all of those Dozois anthologies! I collect those and have about 10 to 12 of them. I have no doubt you will LOVE them. This is really a great haul. Can't wait to see more!
Scott.
I know! Those anthologies are getting a special place in the new shelves! Thanks Scott! ❤️
Yay! Good to see a video from you. Lots of fun stuff you've get here, I haven't seen that Dracula Daily book before but that's pretty neato, I know quite a few people who got into that during the lockdown when it became a big thing.
I didn't know it became a thing during lockdown! 😂 Maybe that's when this forum conversation took place! Thanks for watching and leaving comment Becca! ❤
Hey, great haul! The Bathysphere, Athena Unbound, Geology, and Cannibalism ones sound great. Love me some Dr. Zhivago and Choose Your Own Adventure. Think I found that "Jonah" one at a yard sale as a kid. Even by that point (mid to late 80s), the older titles were getting a little tricky to find. Those Goosebumps books look so familiar -- think my brothers must have owned those. You hated Sphere and Jurassic Park? Yikes! 😁 I enjoyed them in spite of the horrible biochemistry in "Park" and the fact that Stanislaw Lem handled human psychology and incomprehensible aliens much better than "Sphere." Andromeda Strain is probably my favorite Crichton though. And I'm honestly a bit jealous of the SF anthologies. As much as I've enjoyed many SF novels, short stories remain my favorite form for the genre. Hope your week is going well!
I think you and I have talked about Choose Your Own Adventure books before, because that sounds familiar! By the time Goosebumps books hit the scene I was 18 or 19, and my son wasn't into them when he was young, so I never read them until a year ago or so, but I really enjoy them. Reading them reminds me of telling spooky stories around a campfire! And yes I did not like those MC books at all 🙈. Sphere was misogynistic and a bit racist, and I couldn't get over it. The men critiquing the physical attributes of a mummified woman pushed me over my line. With Jurassic Park I had a number of complaints but the biggest was the little girl. She was a defiant little bratt who nearly got them all killed multiple times. I kept hoping she'd be eaten by a Dinosaur 😂. I'll be trying Andromeda Strain next, but that's his last chance for me! I don't have a preference on my science fiction. I like novel length and short stories pretty equally, but I think most are like you and enjoy it's short form more. Thank you Bryan! ❤️
@TheBookclectic Wow, I don't remember that part about the mummified woman from Sphere. It's been a while though. You'll probably want to avoid Crichton's autobiography, "Travels." The dude had some interesting and weird experiences, but he can definitely come off as a self-absorbed jerk. Plus, there's a REALLY disturbing bit where he casually waits outside while a friend visits a child brothel in Thailand. 😬
This does not surprise me at all!
Well I intend to read Andromeda Strain, but I think he's just going to be one of those authors I can't like.
Oooo great list!! Have you read Firestarter yet? Underrated IMO! (though I'm a huge King fan so maybe biased lol)
I have not yet read Firestarter, but it's at the top of my King list. I saw the movie with Drew Barrymoore when I was a kid and loved it, so I'm very interested in comparing it to the book!
