I forgot to mention in the video: I tested this charger compared to the Anker Cube in charging speed. Here are the results:
Anker MagGo: charged from 25% to 100% in 2 hours and 15 minutes
Anker Cube: charged from 40% to 100% in 3 hours and 15 minutes.
So the MagGo definitely charges faster than the Anker cube does.
I was looking for some information on comparing them both. The cube does look more slick but Mag go is faster from your test.
just a recommendation the time to 80% is more important than the last part because the speed throttles no matter what. Your videos are great!
I still think the build of the cube is much superior after watching your video, it feels more premium unlike this newer charger which is a tad wobbly while placing the phone in landscape orientation
Might I suggest getting a cheap usb c power meter, it’ll clearly show at what wattage the devices are charging.
a USB multimeter wouldn't be as helpful for this because total draw of the Anker is not equivalent to the wattage devices get, some energy is lost to heat.@@zjhongolez
One thing I'd like to add is that the portability is somewhat more of a tradeoff when it comes to magnetic wireless charging. I bought two of these: one to use as a travel charger and one for my bedside shelf. But I quickly realized I'd prefer something much heavier for the bedside shelf, since this charger is so light that I actually have to use two hands to take my phone off without taking the whole charger.
Yeah this is definitely something more-so made for travel.
Good to hear this. I have the cube and I was wanting to upgrade to this but I think I’ll keep my cube. I don’t need blazing fast recharge since I’m leaving my phone on the cube overnight. The cube is a bit bulky but the weight is nice for bedside.
Agreed. I have to use two hands to remove my phone. Nonetheless, I’m using this charger on my desk and for travel.
Use some Velcro and Velcro it down? Could help
Try pulling your phone down and off of the MagGo, rather than pulling it forward or upward. This uses the table or shelf that it's on to absorb the force of your downward pull.
I have the Anker Cube. I like how the MagSafe part is a small square, so that I can easily detach my iPhone with one hand, by using my pinky and ring fingers to push against the base, while pulling my iPhone away. It doesn’t look like you can do that with this lighter but bigger MagSafe dock part. I also like how in the cube you can easily store the Apple Watch Charger part, without having to lift the entire thing to put it away. These may be very minor things, but I’m talking about it from the perspective of already owning the Cube. If I did not have the Cube, I might have bought this instead, due to it being lighter and the ability to support Qi2 for Android devices and support the full 15 Watts of charging speed for them.
Good observation on the stronger magnet strength of the MagGo. I've got one, and because of this, I've been pulling my iPhone 15 Pro Max off of it using two hands--one to hold onto the MagGo while I pull the iPhone forward, or up and off, because otherwise the MagGo stays attached to the iPhone and so it lifts off of the table--but I tried it again after reading your comment, and found that if I pull my iPhone downward a bit, it comes off of the MagGo pretty easily with just one hand, since this uses the table it's on to absorb the force of your downward pull.
I bought a MagGo instead of the Anker cube, not just for the MagGo's better portability for suitcase travel, but also because it has such a low profile that I can place it on my TV table that's to the left of my room's desk, and even when my iPhone is in portrait orientation on the MagGo, it's still so low that it doesn't get in the way of the bottom edge of the TV's screen, which is pretty close to the tabletop.
I also like the Apple Watch charging pad being on the back of the MagGo, so it's less in the way of all the other things I have crammed on my TV table, but I found I don't like the fact that this places the watch where it's visually blocked by the MagGo's phone charging pad, even when my iPhone isn't on the MagGo, which isn't an issue with the Anker cube since its watch charging pad pops out to the side. Because of this, I might get Anker's cube at some point and see if it's short enough so that it actually doesn't place my iPhone too high up and in the way of my TV.
I got the Cube months ago but it’s more of my bedroom charger and when I saw this about a week ago, I picked it up for on the go. I will be using it for the first time mid June for trip. The size of it is more appealing and easier than the Cube. Also got a case to put this, the cable and charger in to make it even easier.
Both great options
How cool would this be if it were ALSO a mag-safe battery pack?
That would be so awesome! Maybe next generation.
I have the new Anker MagGo 3 in 1 charging station and I noticed that the LED light only comes on for 1 second and then turns off when plugging in the charger or placing an item on the charger. It looks like this happens to you as well. I wonder what the purpose of the LED is other than flashing if it does not have sufficient power.
I think it lets you know also when something is connected to it. I like that it’s not always on. That can get really distracting and especially bright at night.
When you talk about fast charging north of 50w, that’s actually wired charging.
Apple can fast charge most of their modern phones to up to 20w. With the newer 15 models reaching about 28w.
So no, we’re not stuck at 15w. That’s just how wireless charging is. It’s about the same with other Android phones and 15w is fast and more efficient because it’s the qi2 standard.
Wireless charging is convenient for overnight charging (hence the nightstand mode), while wired is good for much needed quick charges during the day.
This is pretty crazy compact. Thanks a lot, for the review, Brian!
Absolutely! Tons and tons more coming. Make sure you’re subbed up to the channel 💪🏼
I just bought mine today and the phone part charges but the AirPods pad and the Apple Watch doesn’t seem to be working 😞
Are you using the included cable? What wattage brick are you using? And do your AirPods have wireless charge?
Was thinking of getting the Anker Cube. The newer MagGo has better design and a lot cheaper 2 without compromising the charging speeds.
I travel a lot and I have the Apple Magsafe Duo. I can charge all three devices (but not at once) 2 at a time. it is slower but over night travel charging is fine and the most compact. I am very interested in the new Qi2 Charger and will keep an eye on sales.
This one is great and I think you’ll really enjoy using it. I’m sure there will be a sale on them fairly soon
It finally went on sale today on Amazon
thanks! im ordering two. one for work and one for home.
Nice! The link in the description is an affiliate link which at no extra cost to you helps my channel out a bit. I’m sure you’ll enjoy them!
Would love to have one but that price?? Ouch!
If you angle the power cord downward, it won’t get in the way of the watch.
can I use this for travel and as a station at home even if I don't travel will it ruin the battery for everyday use?
Yes you can use it. It wont go anything different to your battery than any other MagSafe charger
Can you do a comparison video with the anker cube?
Sure! Stay tuned to the channel.
I have the mag safe cube and it has the folding prongs. Was thinking of getting this, maybe I will, and swap the charging bricks for use in my back pack while keeping the cube on my night stand. I did notice with the cube it tended to keep my phone hot even when fully charged unlike apple's official MagSafe puck. Maybe the active shield on this won't do that. Although when I used the cube more recently it didn't seem to do it so not sure why.
So you’re going to want to use the power brick that comes with this one for this one specifically. It seems to work best that way.
Waiting for the satechi qi2 to release. It’s a little more elegant and folds as well
I'll have to check it out. Let me know when it comes out!
This is a kind of charger I’ve been looking for unfortunately as I’m in Australia it’s not out yet. I can get it imported from the US but it will cost a lot of money and take ages to get here. I have the Belkin 3 in 1 MagSafe charger which is great, but it’s pain in the ass to travel with, this would’ve been perfect
I’m sure it’ll come soon. This thing is definitely great to travel with. Also, you can check out the Anker cube. It should be sold at your local Apple Store if you have one around you, as well as many other places. It’s good to travel with too.
@@Brians_tech Thanks mate I’ll check it out. Does it charge at 15w as well ?
Awesome video Brian. I’ll be picking this up and can now leave my Anker cube on my night stand. What case is on your 15pm?
Make sure to use the link in the description below, as it is an affiliate link that helps the channel. And this is the Torras Guardian. A video for it is coming very soon.
Great review. Just curious, does it work as a MagSafe powerbank too?
Thank you! This one does not. They have a separate one that looks similar to this charger, but it’s just a MagSafe battery pack. But it’s not a 3-in-1 charger.
cool video Brian
I just bought the Anker Cube 2 weeks ago, do you recommend getting this as well or no?
Thanks
Jimmy
Toronto, Canada
I recommend this one over the Anker Cube for how compact it is if you plan on taking it with you. If you plan on keeping it on your nightstand or desk, I would recommend the Anker Cube over it just because it’s heavier and more sturdy.
@@Brians_tech thanks, I’m a sucker when it comes to new tech, guess I have to bite the bullet on this one
Wich one is Better the anker Cube or this One?
Anker cube is more premium, but this one has Qi2 charging so it'll charge your devices faster.
Bought the cube and returned.. 1st it was defective with a bulging bottom + the watch slider is a bit too narrow for the ultra 2 watch .. with casing it touches the wall of the cube.
Also the footprint is too small for using as a desktop charger ..
and also too clumsy to be used for traveling.
Is there hot charging issue like other Anker MagSafe power banks?
Not really. And it also has cooling vents in the back so you should be good to go.
Does work with any other outlets or power adapter?
Yes it will, as long as the power brick is 40w or more
Have you tried how long does it takes to fully charge the iphone?
I did and forgot to mention it in the video 😂. Check the pinned comment.
Ingenious design. Smallest i have ever seen.
Yeah it’s super compact and you can even fit it in your pocket. Definitely a great travel charger.
Shame it doesn't work with the pixel watch 2
This is a dumb question but can I plug this device to another powerbank to charge my iPhone devices rather then to the outlet? I wish it was able to charge wirelessly without the cord and then when is out of juice I can charge it with cord. I know there’s another product that does that I think is called bezos max charger.
I don’t think it will provide the necessary power that you need to charge your phone.
Is this compatible with Android as well? Android can use magsafe cases, has qi compatiblity and has some good android watches. Any info?
The MagSafe pad and the regular qi pad are compatible. I'm not sure about the Apple Watch charger, though.
Maybe someone in the comments can help us out with that answer. I don't have any android devices, so I can't really say.
@@Brians_tech Thanks for your answer. Would love to use anker model like this, excellent for travelling. Technically Android phones nowadays have comparable wireless charging possibilities.
@taoizt3846 yeah it’s definitely my travel charger of choice.
Is it working with galaxy watch 5 pro and earbuds 2 pro ? Thanks
Question does it only charge devices while plugged in?
Yes
Can you charge multiple phones on it?
On the magsafe pad you can charge the iphone or any android that you can get a magsafe case for. On the back pad, it might be hard to fit a second phone back there. It would be better for some earbuds.
Only complaint I have is the cable that is included, it is really stiff and looks like trash…. for that price they should include a silcone cable.
It's not a bad cable at all. I don't think anyone will have any issues with it.
Will the LED remain on when the phone is in StandBy on a night stand. If yes, that can be distracting.
No, the LED only turns on for a few seconds in one of two scenarios: 1) when you plug in the power cable, or 2) when something makes contact with the non-magnetic charging pad.
@@likenedthus Cool!! I’m sold!
It’s a great charger for sure. There’s an affiliate link at the description of this video that helps the channel 💪🏼
How are you able to keep purchasing new products, is RUclips money really that good?
Buying, reviewing and returning
Hi Brian,
Thanks for another useful review. You very kindly answered a number of questions for me recently. I asked if you were going to review this charger, so another question answered. I am expecting mine to be delivered next week, so looking forward to it. Sorry, but I don't know what a "pinned " reply is. Finally, I wondered if the price and size means cheap quality. My thanks again for all your help. Terry Davis
I invest a lot into my RUclips channel. Any affiliate links that people use help keep the channel afloat. On RUclips you only get monetized at 1,000 subs so it can’t be the RUclips money yet lol. And I rarely ever return anything. I keep just about everything that you’ve seen on the channel.
Nice 3 in 1. Great review
Thank you!
I’m about to return my Anker cube and buy this instead
Depends on what you need it for. Anker cube is better for your nightstand because of its weight. For travel, this is better.
Purchase link down in the description.
@Brians_tech I've got the cube for both purposes but I like that this new model is flat and can fit in a backpack pocket.
I love Anker but this one is overpriced. Also i wish it was a powerbank like the 633. Also, why would anything overheat charging with 15Watts?
Not sure, but some items, like battery packs, get really hot at 5 or 7.5 watts, so it happens for sure.
Does anyone else have issues with it not working unless plugged In
It’s not a battery pack. It’s just a 3 in 1 wireless charger.
What's the build quality like?
It’s plastic but not cheap feeling. Made to be light weight for travel and being compact.
Has anyone tried this with an iPhone 12? Description says 13 and up but I wonder if it also works for 12 and it is just the animation that works for 13 and up 😅
As long as the phone or case has MagSafe, it will work. That goes for any phone
Since a lot of cases for other phones now come with MagSafe too
@@Brians_tech thank you!
Interesting charger
Perfect charging station! What case are you using in the video?
This is the Torras Guardian. Video coming out soon!
@@Brians_tech Thank you man!!!
There are so many good 3in1 chargers for under $40. I can't justify $100 on something like this.
This has official MagSafe technology as well as 15w charging and Qi2. So that's why the price is what it is.
that’s what I hate about tech companies. Anker released the cube knowing they would release a cheaper and more compact design a few months after. They use the hype of the new iPhone. Capitalism 😡😡
That’s just how tech is. Constantly improving and releasing new products.
To be fair the cube has been around for a good while, not just a few months. Personally I like the fact that a largely free market capitalist system allows us to bid freely for the resources we want and provide a financial incentive for rapid development and ingenuity.
It’s more commercialism as opposed to capitalism. Capitalism allows us to have competition, commercialism wants your money!
Try socilism, we don’t have any in Cuba
I wish we could get these on mars.
3 in 1 wireless charger
Anker bitching with they customers and sold old products during the xmass sales
