yep totally agree - I sometimes think they create shows like Idol and Got Talent simply because the business is jealous of some of these amazingly perfect songs.
I heard this song as a teenager. It still hits my heart today that I am in my fifties. It is not just a song for me but a comment on human nature. Our hopes, our dreams and how our future can turn out so differently from what we had envisaged. Only if the world would just reflect together on a song like this we would see how futile wars and all the other things we do unto ourselves are. We need to cherish our time here and now and do our best for ourselves and for others.
This song epitomizes what a classic pop song is all about. Rhythm, simple lyrics, great song structure, tension, and melody, melody, melody and even more melody. It's an art form lost on today's songwriters.
Oh my God!This song makes me cry and feel deeply emotional when I hear the chorus, and especially the final part, I love this melody and I really like John Watts' voice, I recognize truth and sincerity in his voice, for me it is the best Fischer Z song, I would like had been the best known song of the band and had been more successful! Something I know, something I know Please don't tell me something I know I open my mouth I try to speak You come for a day and stay for a week YOUNG MAN Gemini lots of sensitivily Seeks the girl of his dreams sure that eternily's Far too long, Far too long
Love this band! Talk about people wanting different.. this band done that! And they did it magnificently .. I was always on a journey when I listened..! Great band
I have a very clear memory of my dad singing this in the car while it played on the radio with me as a small kid (maybe 5) in the passenger seat. It was clearly a manic episode and probably the most animated I remember him ever being. It was so out of character and so much fun. One of my favourite memories work my dad.
My favourite song from the album.most people will remember them for so long I'll play that never new wave was a great time for music takes me back to jjj I miss these bands Susie and the banshees magazine goth music like bauhaus all the old punk stuff as well it was a great time for music
Loved So Long so captivating. Need to listen to the rest of their music. Born January 69 and growing up as the youngest of 4 , I was dreaming of meeting Kate Bush every night nearly for years after she raunched the screens in 77 . Still can't ever catch up with the superb music of the 70's 🤘✌️🤲
Suddenly was reminded of this song and listening this for the first time in 3 decades. What strikes me is the similarity between this song and Billy Joel's We Didn't Start the Fire. Odd.
Thankyou, I was listening to this cd when it first came out 88' .. they were perfecting a.i. during the 80/90s. I'm astonished. That was round 40yrs ago, they are already 60yrs?? ahead..good grief does anybody know about ai ,programming or know what I'm talking about? Gotta say it, this is an unusual song during that period. Or I'm looking too much into things 'man kicks dog' context
While this is an awesome track and as someone from the 80s I think the era is timeless. I honestly believe that one of the reasons this track did so well in Australia is because the lead singer honestly sounds like James Reyne.
I remember briefly hearing Fischer-Z's "Perfect Day" back in 1987 but the track barely ever got played though here in Australia..I was probably 9 years old at the time but this track hit me like a ton of bricks though as my days even as a kid would start going down badly through no fault of my own (idiot parents etc) so it struck a profound cord...Perhaps this song was too bitterly sweet for my country to handle back in that time as Australia was the lucky country so no realism nor negativity which I regard as pure realism. So we instead brought up all of John Farnham's feel good stuff instead and look where we are now in 2019+?! After 32 years, this track is hard cold reality which might not seen to be relevant in so-called happy 80's era but it's more relevant in this lousy 21st century etc. "LAAAAARRR URGGGHHH ATTTT AGRRRAAAAHH?!!".
@Goughs Bastard There was a wonderful subculture of alternative music in the 80s. True, the FM stations rarely or never played that music (and still don't). They still refer to Depeche Mode as a one hit wonder band *shakes head*. Sadly FM stations have the same bands from there on rapid rotation still (Barnes, Chisel, INXS, blah blah blah).
My memory is that it did get a reasonable amount of air play. It was a bigger hit here in Aus than in the UK, as was So Long. Perhaps we DO have decent taste :)
@Goughs Bastard Incidentally, the 1982 song "Radio" by The Members was only a hit in Australia. That's a farkin grouse song. I can't believe it wasn't a hit in the UK
@Aaron Brunning Yep, I remember it well. It was one of the early, mainstream rap songs. Are you saying it's not a great song that charted here in Australia? :-)
@Aaron Brunning no, I haven't heard that song on radio for many years. I'd say it's not 'normal' enough for mainstream radio, even the retro stations. According to Wikipedia, it reached number 30 in Australia and 26 in the UK. I used to hear Perfect Day occasionally on Gold FM in Melbourne, but I haven't listened to that station for a long time.

Can anybody identify the location of the "nice house by the park" in the video? Whether it was chosen by accident or design its neighbourhood just exudes that Somewhere-in-England suburban bleakness in which many of us live out our lives.
Fischer Z is a real Crossoverband. I see Punks Skins WaveGoth People Ska and Rastafarie People Rock and Popfans dance to Fischer Z Songs. Fischer Z and Watts are Part of my life.
Believe it or not, these guys had remember Russia censored by the BBC because of the whole satellite debacle, and never really took off as a result. Shame really. John's actually quite a nice man. My second cousin, actually. I hear he's popular in Europe nowadays, no?
Still stands the test of time doesn't it. So much better than 99 per cent of today's so called music
With respect you are wrong Gavin, it is better than 100% of today's 'music'.
@@kathleenmaclachlan1541 thanks for your reply. It inspired me to watch the video to start my day here in Australia
yep totally agree - I sometimes think they create shows like Idol and Got Talent simply because the business is jealous of some of these amazingly perfect songs.
I hadn't realised ai had progressed this far today
confirm
The 80’s was the best time. The best music. The best generation.
Close to the most under rated song of the ‘80’s.
I heard this song as a teenager. It still hits my heart today that I am in my fifties. It is not just a song for me but a comment on human nature. Brilliant. I'll be playing this song for another 36 years and still loving it.
Holey hell..
Heard this on the radio this morning 😁

I like exploring the lyrics and derive meaning from them. Life's a difficult game. A wise man gets to enjoy a perfect day.
Saw them at the Reading Festival in 1980.......very underrated band
A Great Song
It was such a
Privilege to grow
up during the 80's.
Wow. Just . . . . Wow!
Positive proof that there was significant life in the band beyond the release of the high water mark Red Skies Over Paradise
Great song. So long also is a classic. Great band
I love so long too
Another Fischer Z classic... I always loved screaming this out at the top of my voice!!!!
This and 'So Long' are awesome!!

agreed mate, he always hit a chord with me...I'm a musician now, and I still go back to songs like this and "So LOng"
This is one of my all time favourite songs - yes emotion and feeling. That's what music should do - it's not about the artist but the art. perfect.
Why has this channel only got 3.1 Subs!!!! Come on guys. Bring on the 80's!!! Cheers FZ!!!!!!
Love that this sound opened doors for so many, it shaped my teenage rebel delinquency..
Love this band! Talk about people wanting different.. this band done that! And they did it magnificently .. I was always on a journey when I listened..! Great band
I was just at the supermarket 10 minutes ago and heard this pop gem for the first time in years. Liked, subbed, just gorgeous!
What a great band and good memories of the time x
I don't know how I found it , but i come back frequently to listen to this hidden gem .
OMG moment. You can’t tell me Billy Joel didn’t rip this song off when he wrote ‘We didn’t start the fire’ the verse melody is identical.
For sure
I've always believed this.
I have a very clear memory of my dad singing this in the car while it played on the radio with me as a small kid (maybe 5) in the passenger seat. this song came On the Radio I didn't know who it was but I like the song from my teens
Suddenly was reminded of this song and listening this for the first time in 3 decades. What strikes me is the similarity between this song and Billy Joel's We Didn't Start the Fire. Odd.
Wow she has a beautiful voice. Strange I dont recall hearing this back in the 80s, and I was more or less glued to MTV and Sky back then 🤔🥴😲
Brings back memories for an old bloke lost in the 80's.
Me to mate. My teen's started in 1981. What I'd give to go back.
My teens started mid 2000s. I just always had a brain and looked for music I liked, which turned out to be older music:)
I was 15 in 1980. Great Times.
We are back and better than ever! Show just announced with Simple Minds and many more 2018 shows coming soon. Check it out... www.fischer-z.com

Great Band, Great Singer John Watts 👍 I see him at 07.08. 24 in Würselen 🤩🤩
While this is an awesome track and as someone from the 80s I think the era is timeless. I honestly believe that one of the reasons this track did so well in Australia is because the lead singer honestly sounds like James Reyne.
really ? there is the throat sound .it's similar but no-one i know thought this was james reyne.
+bonnie bianco He also happens to be my second cousin
HuwTube has he been twice removed?
+bonnie bianco
Dunno.
he's my dad's cousin, though.
Good joke, anyhow.
Sad really, His dad died last year. Him and my dad did a duet at the funeral.
Yeah but this guy ( John Watts ) can actually sing with his mounth open.
I had this song stuck in my head for over 30 plus years since I was a kid and now I know who the band is now and going to iTunes
Same and why I am here. I didn't realise it was so similar to We Didn't Start the Fire tho!
One of the best songs from the album Reveal
THE best
It's my most cherished song in the whole world along with Major of Simpleton - XTC.
I cannot even describe how betrothed I am to this song.
without a doubt, my favourite song of all time :-D

Only 108 comments? Well I'm happy to make it 109, Fisher Z very underrated
Love this song
Most of there singles were very catchy if they had more airplay they would have sold more.
