I feel sad, even tough Teletoon's shows can be a mixed bag, (you get some good to decent shows like Rescue Heroes,John Callahan's Quads!,Clone High,6teen,Wayside,Total Drama Island, Fred's Head, Jimmy Two-Shoes, Spliced, Fugget About It, Camp Lakebottom, Grojband Freaktown,Atomic Puppet, and Wishfart or you get some bad shows like Angela Anaconda,Mega Babies, and Rocket Monkeys, or some mixed bag themselves like Johnny Test,George of the Jungle, and Total Dramarama.) regardless of their reception they're were pretty much the only Canadian animation network that at least willing to give a chance to many creators/studio to bring their ideas of a show to life compared to other networks like Family Channel and even YTV even if it was done by Canadian television rules
You forgot Caillou, that rotten little boy, too, bro!
Does that go for ytv too ?
What about Braceface?
Doesn't that get a positive mention too?
Angela Anaconda is EXTREMELY underrated
@@natachabeix1441 Yeah, I don't like that show, and that came from Fox Kids, too! Come on, bro!
I respect TeleToon's original structure toward competition.
Wow. So that’s what happened to them. They morphed completely into CN.
I always wondered why there was no CN Canada for years but Teletoon was essentially the closest equivalent anyway.
There was more to that. Canada's Cartoon Network had launched in around 2009 where Teletoon Retro once was (doing what Canada's Nickelodeon did, as YTV housed more recent Nick shows, then as now).
Of course, the French channel still bears the old name because of Corus bearing little focus on Quebec.
0:58 The Qubecers are not okay
French Teletoon was my entire childhood 😭❤ it had so many iconic shows.
But French Teletoon still exists
@@el-karasu6070 yes I know, but it’s a shadow of its former self.
So this channel just started mimicking Cartoon Network only to eventually become CN. I'm sure there's something poetic about that.
Honestly it was always CN's little sister, they aired so many CN cartoons from basically the start
@@SammyRenard That wasn't always true. Many of the shows I grew up with were Teletoon originals. Up until 2011 Teletoon and all the primary Canadian tevelsion channels had a lot of original Canadian programming. Corus entertainment went and cancelled most of the original shows in 2011-2012 and switched to almost entirely shows from CN.
It still pisses me off because that greedy company ruined what was a very uniquely Canadian time in television. Corus also owns basically every original Canadian show from Teletoon, YTV, Treehouse, and Family. And many of them are lost and/or rare because Corus didn't release most of them. In the case of a formerly lost show from my childhood known as "The Noddy Shop" Corus entertainment had every episode but simply refused to do anything with them. I really, really hate that company lol.
@@ELEcommentsdon’t they (under their new name WildBrain) pretty much own all of the Canadian clones of the major US tv channels?
@@Dave102693 Wildbrain owns Family Channel now but as far as I know Corus Entertainment owns the rest. They own a surprisingly large amount in alot of channels and even radio stations. Family channel is the only one of the big four Canadian youth channels, (Family, Ytv, Teletoon, and Treehouse), that Corus doesn't own.
@@alyxgraff9121 absolutely not - teletoon had their own programming and art style in addition to showing CN shows.
Let us not be sad because Teletoon ended.... But be happy it existed....
Thank you for doing a video on Teletoon! This channel was a MASSIVE part of my childhood growing up in the late 90s, early 2000s. I'm pretty sure I started watching teletoon right when it premiered in 1997 when I was 5. I had my own tv in my bedroom for most of my childhood, so I had unsupervised access to tv at all hours of the day. So I would watch ALL the blocks, even the adult ones lol.
Either way...this channel gives me so many fond memories and I think kinda shaped who I am now.
And yet, the Quebec version is still going strong. While even still having their late night block unlike the English version where it got moved over to the 24 hour Adult Swim channel there in Canada.
It's most likely to keep its legacy ongoing, despite the fact they change to name to Télétoon Québec.
The drawback of being so close to America is our English content gets taken over by their stuff.
I'm American...and I remember growing up in the early and mid 00s watching Nick jr or nicktoons and prime time toons on CN and abc..out of like..4 or 5 toons two of them I would either see the CANADA fundraising logo or the Teletoon logo... interesting to see
Teletoon also used to air a Star Wars: The Clone Wars block late in the day back in 2009 to the 2010s. What's special about this block is that from 2009-2010, they've made a special ID that would play before the next episode plays. It features R2-D2 moving across the Teletoon logo in front of a white void. This ID was once lost media since its airing, but I just so happen to have a recorded VHS tape of the block containing this lost ID.
I remember watching some of their shows on Cartoon Network like watching a bit of Atomic Betty and Totally Spies in the mid 2000s, then Johnny Test, Total Drama and 6teen in the late 2000s and Grojband in the mid 2010s
I vaguely remember this channel, by the time it came around i was in high school
6:47 VERY powerful. Corus is the largest media company in Canada in terms of children's content, as well as being the owner of the Global Television Network (essentially Canada's version of Fox, or ABC, depending on your opinion)
I remember some of those shows
I was sad to see it shut down. As a Canadian kid in the 90's/early 2000's, YTV and Teletoon were the after-school dream team.
Thank you for this post, because I know I’m going to be bored at work and need something to watch lol.
Same. This is perfect for my train commute.
As a Canadian, I would like to sincerely apologize for the existence of Caillou.
I loved this channel as a kid! It is such a shame that teletoon no longer really exists as its own entity. Teletoon was a staple in Canadian childhoods.
Teletoon did a lot for Canadian Animation so, they have my respect.
Sigh, it was my childhood. It had a good run. Sad my kids won't be able to enjoy what I enjoyed.
Corus is one of the biggest companies in Canada considering they have the Canadian liscences for Disney and Nickelodeon as well so effectively they own all three major kids networks with Family being the only one left. They also have a majority of the adult networks like Global, History, Food, Discovery, HGTV etc
Yeah I think after PBS Kids I'll drop a video on Corus
@@StagehandMotel6 You should do Wildbrain too considering they bought nearly all the Canadian animated studios on top of all the content from DIC etc
Family used to have access to Disney content until they lost the rights as they went on a focus to Wildbrain.
oh, so that's what happened, I always wondered why they stopped airing Disney stuff when I was younger
They also owned YTV and Treehouse.
In the future can you review it's a laugh production ❤
I was watching this yesterday then it was suddenly taken down 🤔
There was a bug in the rendering so I had to fix it
Used to love watching Teletoon Retro. To answer your question at the end of your video. Corus Entertainment is actually owned by Viacom who also owns MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Paramount Studios, Paramount +, etc.
Teletoon Retro started off as a 3 -hour cartoon block on Teletoon and then spun off into its own channel which at one point had around 2 milllion subscribers - including myself. They showed all the great Saturday morning cartoons from the 60s to the 80s every day like The Flintstones, Scooby Doo, Fat Albert, Looney Tunes and more. It was great to watch and I still miss it a lot.
Corus and and Bell are pretty much the monopolies of Canadian cable stations
There's also Rogers. They have a fairly large group of stations themselves.
it's sad that it Died, so Cartoon Network can have a Canadian Branch.
Cartoon Network existed in Canada since like 2011, I have no clue why that’s not in this video tho
The French version still existed, but the english version doesn't exist anymore and it replaced by Cartoon Network Canada.
R.I.P. Teletoon (English)
1997-2023
Good question. Would like to know myself.
nice one.
I grew up with Teletoon I was there from the beginning it was great sad we've lost it RIP
I love this channel This stuff is fascinating and Im not really sure why but obviously kids tv is something we all loved at some point I really like your presentation style too
Stick around for more!
@1:28 I think you put in a bumper from the France french Teletoon which is unrelated; french canadian teletoon mostly stuck with teletoon's network aesthetics
I'm glad Teletoon is getting some recognition. It was definitely a big 3 for Canadian kids growing up around the early 2000s to the late 2010s (those being Teletoon, YTV, & Family Channel)
*Teletoon = Cartoon Network*
*YTV = Nickelodeon*
*Family Channel = Disney Channel*
Also Treehouse.
Which is 24/7 preschool shows(mostly nick jr shows).
1:28 this is not footage from the Canadian Teletoon, but from a French channel also called Teletoon, dated sometime between 2004 and 2011 (a + was added to its name at this point)
Just wanna point that out.
not familiar with teletoon, i certainly don't remember watching it when i was younger, i do recall some of the shows mentioned here, like cardcaptors, dexter's lab, powerpuff girls, etc. but i probably saw those on cartoon network, that whole program sharing thing sounds better though as you said
6:47 they own canada's nick, nick jr, cn, boomerang, disney, disney xd, and disney jr
and also ytv and treehouse
5:03 this hits different when you know the voice actor is Canadian
Matt Hill?
1:28 You accidentally added a bumper from Télétoon (France), which is completely different from Télétoon (Canada) as they aren’t based in the same country, has a different parent company and unlike the Canadian version, it still exist. (tho yeah it’s a pretty common mistake so I don’t blame you) Otherwise, pretty good video ! Could’ve been a little longer but it’s already good as it is.
From my notes there wasn't much about teletoon to talk about other than who it's under which is a different longer story.
Télétoon+ in France just got removed not long ago unfortunately. Also, the French counterpart of the English Teletoon in Canada is the one that still exist.
@@commandixnostalgia2321 wait what ??? how didn’t I heard those news ???
@@commandixnostalgia2321 i just checked and Télétoon+ is still active, idk what you’re talking about
They do have weird history when you think about it.🤔
1:34 they had SpongeBob?
for some reason i’ve managed to vividly remember a memory i have with Teletoon when i visited Canada in 09. i was staying at a hotel in Vancouver and decided to turn on the channel, i was already well aware about it, but seeing it live was something new
when i turned it on, Atomic Betty was playing and i was FLOORED. at that time, the show had already stopped airing in CN for years and i’d occasionally watch clips of it on youtube. i actually hadn’t known the series fully continued so i torrented it when i got back home lol
thanks Teletoon
Di-Gata Defenders came from Teletoon before it came to 4Kids TV back in the day when 4Kids licensed the show here in the US! I loved that show, it's so underrated! Good times, RIP Teletoon! I wish more people talked about it! And even Spider Riders, such a cool Canadian anime, too! That was also a good and underrated show as well! So many good shows, and also some bad once like Caillou, UGH, Caillou! That came back on Peacock recently and it actually looks better now! And his is less annoying now and he seems like he's a much child than before! Thank goodness, way to go, WildBrain! And even trash like Supernoobs as well! They produced some good shows over the years, and I love that so much, bro! Thanks for talking about Teletoon, do a video on the history behind Canadian studio Nelvana next, please! That would be so cool to see you break that down as well! I would love to see it and watch, too! It would be so interesting! I know it! Do it, do it!
You start off being original only to copy your competitors
That's the game
Gotta get that audience (I really don't see you doing this for money currently)@@StagehandMotel6
Corus Entertainment is the evil greedy company in the shadows. They own pretty much every single original show from Teletoon, YTV, Treehouse, and Family, and they canceled the majority of the classic original Canadian shows from those channels around 2011 in favor of importing more shows from the USA. Many original Canadian shows are now lost and/or rare because despite having them, Corus Entertainment has never released most of them.
I grew up with a show that for years I had memories of it but didn't know what it was. Eventually, thanks to the lost media community, It was discovered to be called "The Noddy Shop", the reason why I could never find it, is because up until a couple of years ago, it was a very rare show. It was soon discovered that Corus Entertainment had it the entire time, but simply refused to release any of it to the public. It wasn't until people started sharing their archives of it that the show was found. How many other original Canadian shows from those channels are lost to time? God only knows. Seriously, f*ck that company and everyone behind it.
Is Canadian animation even alive nowadays?
I miss this channel so much. Canadian original programming was like nothing else out there. Until they dropped like 90% of their original shows in 2011. Thanks Corus, you greedy bastards.
It's ironic Teletoon didn't want any anime, when they aired Dragon Ball Z,Pokemon,Yu-Gi-Oh,Turning Mecard,Yokai Watch,Battle B-Daman: Crossfire,Cardcaptor Sakura and Future Card Buddyfight,as well as produced some anime with Japan like Cybersix,Spider Riders and Bakugan. They rejected Full Metal Alchemist back in 2003,yet they came to Anime Con for Cardcaptor Sakura. Teletoon tried becoming Cartoon Network since 2012-2013,and they finally did it in 2023. It proves just how much Chorus took control of Teletoon. Télétoon+ in France has shut down now as well this year. All we have left are Teletoon's French counterpart, also in Canada, which is now named Télétoon Québec. I remember the channel airing Halloween and Christmas specials back then,as well as movies.
Get lost.
Everyone hates Total Drama Island now.
Treehouse outros when I was a little kid from Max and Ruby and Cat in the Hat idk wut Teletoon is YTV that Canada Nickelodeon idk 🙃
I’m glad I’m American and had Toonami. Saw that snippet of the scheduling for teletoon had DBZ then Rugrats after. I woulda smashed the tv after seeing that. Rugrats after like the 2nd season was ass.
You’re welcome to do CORUS they have doing sketchy stuff for the past year or so like firing one of the Canada’s respectful journalists for no reason, meddling around radio stations, TeleToon itself’s sad demise. I’m sure it’s a small part of their business practices.
It's not pronounced "Tellytoon" my man. You pronounce "Tele" the same way you would in "television" or "telecommunications".
I'm American. Sue me.
@@StagehandMotel6 lol, nice video though

Very insightful video! But it's pronounced Teluh-Toon.
Also, Corus is overly colossal, concerningly so
