The Disney run of Power Rangers ended with RPM, not SPD.
Lots of bad info in this video
Man, Saban Entertainment's life can made into a movie.
Dont you go tempting Disney Plus
Considering that in the past 10 or so years we've seen movies about the creation of McDonald's, Flaming Hot Cheetos, Air Jordans, Tetris, etc. a movie about Saban doesn't seem that farfetched
The sad thing is all of their shows are now rotting in the Disney Vault.
Yep, and the only thing that ever gets recognition is "Richie Rich's Christmas Wish"
No wonder why some 90s French cartoons need to come out from the rotting vault!

Saban Brands hasn't been the same since they sold their own biggest thing, power rangers of all franchises. also they did good partnering with Fox
it sucks hearing so many bad things about shows i grew up watching having such dark undertones or hidden drama, nostalgic of course seeing them and enjoy the history of it for the sake of education, but sad how dark it can be
These darkness can be at least some of IRL 'Conspiracy theories'

oh man, the NASCAR Racers show? I haven't heard anything about that show in over a decade or more! What a hit of nostalgia! I still remember parts of the cool intro song, and only 2 episodes. One where the track gets a virus or something and all the obstacles and such get put up to max difficulty and nobody can shut down the computer that controls it, and another episode where they had to race through a snowy forest and a few of the characters got lost in a night blizzard and they had to go find them.
Anyone else remember that show?
I loved Nascar Racers growing up! Loved the toys by Hasbro!
Given that Haim's instructions for Ron when it came to Power Rangers was that "kids like the word 'go'", I very much doubt that he was the theme song master he wanted to make himself out to be.
Thank you for such an informative video. I knew how scummy Saban was to their actors but hearing about their other policies and what they did to Ron was downright disgusting.
They have hundreds of quality shows besides Power Rangers and Digimon that are languishing in the Disney vault. And indeed all the copyrights belong to Disney but no one talks about them, a masterpiece like Diabolik etc.
After the 2000s, Saban cartoons weren't hitting like they used to.
It is for America. We watched shows in EMEA that you had never even heard of until 2010, and most of them belong to Disney today. Digimon or Power Rangers were not that important to any of us. None of the shows you mentioned, except Nascar Racers and Sweet Valley High, belong to Disney today. I have an article on the Drew's Clues site where I discuss Saban-Fox Kids and Jetix together and reveal all the connections and Disney-owned shows. Please read it sometime. Have a nice day...

As a quick reminder 1 thing that wasn’t mentioned that the power rangers franchise was owned by Disney up until power rangers RPM not SPD. The rights were then sold back to Saban due to the success of marvel at Disney. The show then ran at Nickelodeon in 2011 until 2021.
In 2018 the franchise had its final season ran by the saban as it was bought by Hasbro. Ever since then the show has had 3 seasons under the hasbro name. Power rangers beast morphers and power rangers Dino fury.
The 2nd and 3rd season power rangers cosmic fury is a 3rd season to Dino fury and is aired exclusively on Netflix. Hasbro now wants to reboot the entire series so it can use all American footage instead of Japan super sentai footage that was being used previously.
Regardless the franchise has been everywhere and despite it going through ownership hell.
It’s still going strong.
DIC, Saban,...and the rest!
The Why Why Family is a very obscure show, but from the episodes I've seen, it's pretty good for an educational show, especially explaining everyday things like what UPC codes are and the difference between an oven and microwave.
7:03 Saban's version of the Shadow Realm. Although like "Sent to the Stars" in Yugioh GX, it wasn't _entirely_ wrong.
Saban actual wanted to adapt Bioman, Stan Lee wanted adapt Sun Vulcan for US.
Actually, Haim Saban created Saban Brands in 2010 to buy back Power Rangers and a few shows related to it from Disney and also bought back Digimon in 2012, but Saban Brands would be closed in 2018 after they sold Power Rangers and several of it’s other properties to Hasbro. The last series that was being produced by Saban before shutting down was Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty, which was a collaboration with toy company Funrise. Overall, I was a fan of Saban stuff back in my childhood, mostly Power Rangers and Digimon, but their still fun to watch and I like their twirly-doo logo, but it does suck to hear about the company’s history of poor decisions and sometimes terrible treatment towards the some of the people that worked for them.
I learn more from my audience each day I do these. Thank you👍
Funny you mention RBUK, i remember when it was basically demolished by the Unikitty fandom from its announcement from being regarded as a ripoff and probably failed as a result haha, you should've seen the small fued we had between the two fandoms back in the day. It was nuts!
@@PipimiOden Well I was aware of the comparison between the two.
@@StagehandMotel6Austin St John,Thuy Trang and Walter Jones ALL walked off the set of MMPR after Post Production of the S2 Two Parter “White Light” on August 15,1994.
A few mistakes and omissions in this. Of note being Shuki Levy marrying and Abusing an actress from VR Troopers (in an interview with RVT she revealed she'd found camera's hidden in her home after they seperated), Saban and Levy using their connections in Hollywood to literally get backlisted actors who tried to leave their shows if they wanted to pursue any other acting careers (thus why few ever managed to transition to any other acting role, Johnny Yong Bosch being a major exception as by the point he began voice acting he'd been let go from PR amidst a full cast-change mid-way through PR Turbo), and most notably Disney didn't own power rangers through Just SPD (season 12), they went through the end of the original 17 seasons with RPM in 2009. Nickelodeon didn't get PR until Saban bought the show back from Disney in 2010 with them then making Power Rangers Samurai in 2011 in their attempt to get back in the game...and thus beginning Power Ranger's dark times which last to this day even after a shift in ownership to Hasbro in 2018. Then again, this is a 13 minute vid, so hard to fault those admissions.
But yeah, Haim Saban and his executives are pretty scummy and not though of fondly at all. One can love the product and yet still empathize with the harm that was done to those made part of it and show respect to them over the men at the top.
4kids was even worse with this.
Saban Brands official Power Rangers brand history is kind of a shaky mess they treat the BVS Era as a dark time where a company who had no idea how to market the brand and didn't want the brand was stuck with it
They made Johnny Bosch change his middle name from Jay to Yong to sound more Asian.
@@dwainsimmons3447 ohh damn. The 4kids higher ups must’ve treated the company’s voice actors just as badly, even though the americanised anime shows are already over-censored to begin with. For a brief time in the 1990s before the big bad (but not worse) Al Kahn came along, it was run by the downright horrible Bobby Kotick, who in turn ran Activision-Blizzard-King for a couple of years and is now a criminally dangerous Coca Cola higher up.

It was the PERFECT secondary home, to the Marvel/Saban shows 😢😔
I laugh at the fact the TV studios rejected Power Rangers in 1986 but was finally aired on Fox 1993 as we know as MMPR and became a hit.
Some more things I've heard about Saban:
KISS's Gene Simmons once had a meeting with Haim Saban and Shuki Levi to do some project with him. During the negotiations, Saban leaned over to Levi and said in Hebrew, "Now we gut him!" Saban didn't realize that Gene Simmons also spoke Hebrew, and replied, "You a$$hole, I'm one of you!" The deal didn't happen. (I think it was some sort of KISS/X-Men crossover, so I guess it was for the best.)
From the book "Previously on X-Men":
Storm was recast after season 1, and all the season 1 episodes redubbed with the replacement actress, just to avoid paying the actress royalties. So first, a white woman was hired as Storm. (AFAIK her voice never appeared in any aired episodes.) They then decided that a black woman should to the voice so recast the role with an American actress. Because she was American (as opposed to the rest of the cast who were Canadian) they would have to pay her royalties for reruns of the episodes her voice appeared in, they replaced her with a Canadian actress.
Will Meuginot went to Japan and had Sunrise willing to animate for the X-Men cartoon, but Saban didn't want to spend a small amount more for animation and they stuck with their Korean animators. Later they shifted to a Filipino studio that screwed up so bad on some episodes that they had to be completely reanimated from scratch. So there are two completely different versions of "No Mutant's an Island" out there, both used in different geographic regions.
A lot of music credited to Haim Saban was not actually created by him, but other composers on a work-for-hire basis. And (not related to Saban but mentioned in the book) Hans Zimmer also uses ghost composers.
As kids, we were watching animated shows, Japanese anime, Power Rangers and tv films produced by Saban Entertainment. Right now, we all know the dark truth of why actors & actresses working in those shows were given unfair treatment because of Haim Saban’s greed and nepotism.
Just ask Jason and Zack.(R.I.P. Trini). They’ve explained why they left the Franchise in August 1994.
Kids are not dumb.
Yikes.
1 billion dollars in revenue from toy sales alone and the actor who plays the Red Ranger was homeless at the time?
Jesus.
"Sorry about the movie, but to be fair, you're no John Williams."
Yeahhhh, you should be sorry about that movie, you're certainly not Steven Spielberg either.
What really sucks (especially if you’re a Transformers fan) is that Saban entertainment made the English dub for transformers robots in disguise 2001, and they will not sell the rights to the English dub to Hasbro. Because of this transformers robots in disguise has only had one release of the complete series on DVD and currently is not available on any streaming site legally, at least in the US.
That explains it. That fuckin sucks, that's my favorite Transformers series
That one wasn't my favorite version (which is G1), but I'm sorry to hear that. So neither company can actually do anything with the show without the cooperation of the other? Really boneheaded move one or both of their parts (I don't know all the details).
Hasbro did something similar with ROM: Space Knight. Marvel made a comic based on the ROM toy. The toy was a flopped but the comic was somewhat successful. Hasbro owns the rights to ROM himself, but most of the rest of his backstory is still owned by Marvel. James Gunn wanted to use ROM in his Guardians of the Galaxy movie, but he couldn't work out a deal with Hasbro, as Hasbro had plans for their own "cinematic universe" (remember the Battleship movie? 😄) and wanted to save ROM for that. So Hasbro had a chance to have ROM, a character that most people reading this comment have never heard of nor care about, appear in the MCU at the height of its popularity, but didn't.
This kind of crap is why I think our copyright laws need to be drastically overhauled. These giant corporations just hoard everything and then ignore most of it. If a fan tries to do a restoration they have to worry about breaking copyright laws. The copyright needs to go back to an initial 14 years of protection, which could then be renewed one or two times, and those renewals would require registrations. Registrations would help to alleviate the "orphan works" problem, where people want to use a property but can't even figure out who owns it in order to ask for permission.
At the very least, the copyright should end when the author dies. (The actual author, not the corporation that currently owns the work or hired the author on a work-for-hire basis.)
Power Rangers RPM was the last season under the Disney area
I was sort of having red flags when power rangers were in the neo-saban era,but this is a whole 'nother story! This really clarifies some things.

Wait… I’m pretty sure Power Rangers went on until RPM under Disney. SPD was only their fourth show (the first three being Wild Force under a technicality, Ninja Storm, and Dino Thunder) and I definitely remember the hype around Samurai (the series directly after RPM, and the start of the current “Neo Saban” era of the franchise) in regards to Saban “taking back” Power Rangers by getting it sold to Nick.
Power rangers ran under Nick for 11 years and two years putting stuff directly on Netflix in 2022 and 2023. The power rangers brand is suppose to have a reboot sometime in 2025
@@Zethlynncorrection: Saban bought back power rangers in 2010 and power rangers was simply just aired on Nick. Nick had nothing to do with the show’s production then probably making seasons 22 episodes instead of 32, 38, or 40.
Actually power rangers was never sold to Nick. Saban still owned the show when PR was on Nick until 2018 when Saban sold PR to Hasbro who is the current owner. All Nick did was allowed them to air the show as well as make it so seasons have to be 22 episodes I believe

Video Power is a pretty interesting show in retrospect, and has several episodes still considered lost media, if I recall.
I would like to know what caused it to shift from a Super Show styled hybrid Live-Action Captain N knockoff into Season 2's Nick Arcade game show knockoff...
0:52 I saw Ron Wasserman at Power Morphicon once and he claimed Saban and Levi didn't compose their own music. Of course he still (rightfully) holds a massive grudge over the DBZ music so take that with a grain of Wasserman's salt.
0:43 EXTREME CLOSE UP!!! I'm currently using that as a notification sound. 🤣
7:05 The next dimension was the early shadow realm.
It was very frustrating as a kid waiting for new episodes of DBZ to air in ‘96-97, only to be continually crushed when they recycled repeatedly back to the 1st episode when episode 53 aired. It was also disappointing that Silver Surfer was cancelled on a cliffhanger
6:40 Wasserman has stated on record that he only did background music. Although he doesn't clearly remember which tracks, only giving an incredibly vague description.
I heard Neptune’s voice at the end
Great breakdown, looking forward to seeing more!
Thank you I enjoy your content as well.

Haim Saban just lives up to the stereotype.
I grew up in Latin America watching the original dragon ball series in its uncut format and original music. When I saw the version put out in the US I was very disappointed in its censorship and complete changing of the soundtrack.
Yeah, we didn't get Dragon Ball in the US until after the comic had ended its run in Japan.
Harmony Gold tried to adapt the original Dragon Ball cartoon in the 80s, but only a few episodes aired in a limited test market. A few of the character names from this localization for some reason carried over to future localizations. The redundant "Master Roshi" and (please correct me if I'm wrong about this) I heard that their name for Goku, "Zero", carried over to Latin American localizations.
@@KasumiKenshirou goku was still goku, the only name that changed was chichi which they named her milk. Chichi in Spanish well it just wouldn’t work well.

The good thing is that, unlike DiC, this studio had some variety with animated content. But at the same time, company-wise, they are probably worse than DiC.
Kinda glad Disney and Hasbro both folded Saban. Not entirely, but half of it.
They probably should add a K at the end of DIC. Would be more appropriate with anything involving Saban.
See, I’ve always heard of his scummy practices against the PR actors like Austin, Thuy and David (hell even some of the replacements like Karen and Steve have had not nice things to say about Haim too), but I had no idea how disgustingly hard he screwed over poor Ron Wasserman.
The poor actors still deserved better pay yes, but at least they got credited as their respective characters. How entitled do you have to be to literally censor the name of the main songwriter who created your show’s awesome theme song that everyone still remembers (even non-PR fans)? Which I should mention, he continued to remix and reuse (and made worse) when he came back in the 2010s.
Well, Haim certainly had his time in the sun. Thank goodness he’s seemingly out of business now. Scummy people like him not deserve success.🙄

Saban was and is a POS. And I thought that Hasbro owned the Power Rangers Licensing NOT Disney……
Futari ha Pretty Cure kept its series name Pretty Cure in Canada, Fresh Pretty Cure got known in Italy, and Konata Izumi mentioned a theme song in the Lucky Star anime including the English version before Saban Brands almost killed the series worldwide as Glitter Force that is like how 4Kids changed anime against the content's intent. RPM was the final Disney Power Rangers season not SPD, assuming we don't count the 2010 hackjob that was the MMPR reversion. SPD was the 3rd season under Disney, following Dino Thunder and Ninja Storm. Following from SPD, we got Mystic Force, Jungle Fury, Operation Overdrive, and the aforementioned RPM. The Disney era was also, in my opinion, the best overall era of PR, at least for consistency. The only actually bad season in the Disney era, really, was Operation Overdrive, which is overall pretty impressive, and includes most of the best seasons of the show, those being Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, SPD, and RPM.
The franchise got lucky with the Disney era since Disney themselves are too embarrassed with Power Rangers; they only got it as part of a larger buyout of Fox Family Worldwide when Haim Saban sold the company back in 2001.
They even planned to pull the plug after the Fox Family Worldwide buyout but longtime PR producer Doug Sloan convinced them to move the production from the US to New Zealand.
Look, even Power Rangers during that era was put into programming blocks like ABC Kids, Toon Disney, and even Jetix, they even barely promoted it. In other words, *Disney never wanted Power Rangers in the first place.*
They wanted to end it with Jungle Fury but since Disney grew tired of the franchise, Jetix helped the funding for one last hurrah, which it became RPM.
It's never Disney themselves that made the Disney era being "best overall" but more on the production team. People like Bruce Kalish, Greg Aronowitz, and Eddie Guzelian.
I can understand why you’d want to skip Glitter Force. As a Pretty Cure super fan myself, I know all the edits Saban had to do to give it their own sense of international appeal. I don’t have room to explain everything, but I can tell you that while each season is roughly 50 episodes long, they trimmed Smile Precure down to 40 episodes and Dokidoki Precure down to 30! Let that sink in before you decide whether or not to talk about “How Saban Ruined Pretty Cure”. …but in all honesty, Debi Derryberry did a great job with the work she was given. Ok I’ll stop now 😅
Yeah, it deserved a better licensing company from what happened to Glitter Force. As Viz would have done it well with proper English Dubs.
Cardcaptors was another one US producers ruined.
I don't understand the concept of "international appeal" since many non-English dubs of anime usually kept all of the Japanese elements intact. For example, here in Latin America we got series like Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura and Digimon Adventure dubbed from the original Japanese version, with all of the background music intact and cover versions of the Japanese OP and ED
I can't understand why distributors in the U.S. feel they need to replace all of the Japanese elements, as if kids from other countries wouldn't understand them
@pablocasas5906 I suppose it depends on the studio. Some are hits, and some are misses. Look at US DBZ opening being a total hit. Whether it would be a better hit than the original in other countries, i don't know. Nowadays, I think they use the original OP/ED more often than not.

It's sad that some of their English anime dubs are lost, such as Three Little Ghosts, Jungle Tales, Super Pig, and Rock 'N Cop. At least they had non-English dubs based on those versions that can be found online, which is better than nothing at all since I like seeing non-English dubs too.
Saban really was not the best but it was a big part of anime back then...it had a fate that went slowly into fruition when it got bought out by Disney to then emerge and many are locked on Disney jail including Transformers RID 2001 which doesn't have a US release yet despite on how many episodes were removed due to poor timing. I honestly hope Hasbro claims the rights to the series as they managed to claim Animated back in 2011.
And Saban's business practices was not the best...as it's comeback was short lived only for Power Rangers (their main IP which is based on Super Sentai) to then be bought by Hasbro.
And PreCure definitely deserved better than all this.
Some of those shows are awesome
Who else was interested in Fox channel assets than Disney instead ?
The outro was perfect!
What was the point of the Glitterforce bit at the end? I'm missing the context
To see how the 90s hack dub trend is back.
Saban is just cheap, he wanted the most profit but didn't want to put anything back into his investments/ips
disney held power rangers from ninja storm to RPM they held it way longer than till SPD
Okay wow. I didn't realize Saban (both the company & the person) abused so many people. I hope the people who worked on the 90s Power Rangers at least got compensation later in life.
Digimon got away
