The "One-Fifty-Five" is a train time. It could be the STD the ATD, the STA or ATA. Or more than likely it is/was cancelled! My reply is three years late rather like the train! :
Oh my gosh - same!! Would've been much better if she had said "a dollar fifty-five". Haha, I was panicking too, thinking "oohhh - maybe this hobby ain't for me"...
Thank you Connie for the comparison. It really helps. I get the Tachikawa G nibs for .86 ea, eighty six cents a piece when purchasing 3 or more at a time.
I just dip my nibs in ink and rub them off 2-4 times to get coating off oiled nibs. I love the Zebra G and titanium Zebra G. Thank you for covering the G nibs and cages ! I know they are great to use on rough paper where the tip might catch more!
I love the tutorials, but please turn up the volume on you videos. we can adjust it some, but when the original is so low, nothing can make it audible. thanks.
Thanks very much Connie for another great video. Here in the UK rubbing alcohol is known as Surgical Spirit and can be purchased over the counter at any pharmacy. x
Hello, firstly I wish to thank you for your videos as they are very very helpful. I have been practising my compound curves and ovals. Morever, thank you for this video about nibs because, for the beginner this is very daunting. However, I am finding inks are now a problem. I live in London UK and most of the art shops have closed down and as I am wheelchair bound I find it very difficult to access shops too far away. I have heard that Sumi ink is the best but that is not very accessible but have been told Indian Ink is quite good. Please could you comment when you have a moment. Thanks again and very best wishes.
Thank you for your kind words, I use Moon Palace Sumi mixed with a decent amount of water to obtain fine hairlines. You should be able to order it online. There should be a few UK calligraphy shops that sell it online and I believe Amazon also carries it.
Hi GeorgeI can recommend "Scribblers". They are based in Lowestoft-0845 003 7148. You can order online and they respond very quickly. I've received my orders within 2 days of ordering.
I know this wonderful video is 7 years old & I may not hear back from you, but 1st I want to thank you for all your videos, 2nd maybe things have changed, but I find the Nikko to be a finer tipped nib than the Tachikawa (not discussing flex) & I found out that Tachikawa is oddly manufacturing all the popular G nibs. Just to confuse things further there is more than one style of Tachikawa G nib & maybe yours is a different model than mine.
thanks so much for this review, in the region I live is so difficult find this kind of nibs, the only ones i could find was nikko G and tachikawa G, reading in internet and watching your video im going to get the tachikawa one :)
One small question: Why are they all called "G" ? Very good video. Thankyou. I have tried to put Zebra G nibs in Jinhao. The 159 & X750 / X450 are 6mm-D feed. These nibs are 5mm. So try a Thehao 250 or Hero 901 with 5mm feed. Although they do work, the ink supply is not enough or continuous. I think maybe the feed should be opened up a little bit with a fine-toothed saw. (You can buy spares I think but pens are cheap anyway). Good luck with it.
I am beginning in the calligraphy and I have had problems to find a suitable paper. What brand / model do you use in this video? Thank you in advance! :)
Rhodia dot pads come in many different bindings, you just have to choose which you like :). For example, I'm currently using the top wirebound version. rhodiapads.com/collections_dot_top_wirebound.php
Rhodia dot pad is very good for any kind of calligraphy. try using HP Printer Paper, Premium Choice LaserJet Copy Paper, 32lb for cheap alternative but the best i have used so far is the CANSON 100511047 Canson Artist Series Pro Layout Marker Pad.
Hi there Connie, first of all thank you for the wonderful videos and they are really helpful, really liked them. I have just recently started to learn copperplate lettering and used the Blanzy 2500 nib and Brause 230. Can you make a video of these nibs and your review is very much appreciated. Also is there anyway to help one improve their fluorishing skills? Thank you very much.
Nice review! helped me to not buy the Leonardt. I was surprised it was so cheap and I wondered why is no one batting an eyelash at it. Really glad that there's this review
I just bought Tachikawa and Nikko G nibs, I had no experience with G nibs. I did not know that they were that scratchy. I inserted them in fountain pens but nibs are not really compatible. Your video was very useful for me . Thank you very much. Is that spring sold for G nibs or is it any spring that you inserted inside the nib?
Please, speak up! Or turn up your microphone! Other than having difficulty hearing you, I thought this video was an excellent comparison of the various Comic G nibs out there! Thank you, very much for posting this!
I’m a beginner and order 3 Nikko nibs go start and a Manuscript penholder with some Sumi ink. So excited to get started!
A price of "one fifty five" to me means $155.00. Imagine my relief when I looked up the going price for Nikko G nibs and found that they go for $1.55.
haha.
100% totally agree. I was getting panicked thinking these cost hundreds of dollars. Then I went online and was so relieved. Lol

You were thinking of "one hundred & fifty five" She didn't say hundred.

How long do nibs like these last before they need replacing?
I think this is an excellent review
Great comparison, thank you! Very helpful to compare the scripts as well as to hear your own opinion on these.

+Alexa Alvarez That's great to hear! Thank you for watching :)
Very good video Thanks. I ordered Nikko after this video. Have you tried to put it in a fountain pen like Jinhao, like most people try?
Do you know how to write in right facing italics without an oblique pen holder?
One small question: Why are they all called "G" ?
Very good video. Thankyou.

It is explained at the start of the video. It's because of the side holes forming a letter " G"
Absolutely true - I'm sorry! How did I miss that?
@@berryj.greene7090 It happens. These videos have a lot of information, so it's easy to miss something.
I am beginning in the calligraphy and I have had problems to find a suitable paper. What brand / model do you use in this video? Thank you in advance! :)
+Billy Retamal I used Rhodia paper in the video. I seemed to of forgotten to put it in the description of the video.
I've been looking for and found many models. The one you use is the Rhodia Dot Pad? Thank you in advance! :)

I use heavy weight paper the smoothest stuff I can find I love hot pressed paper the most

I like the blue pumpkin also
Love the wooden nib holder you are using. It looks indented. Who carries it, and the cost? Roy Reno
+Roy Reno Watch her video titled Handcarved Custom Grip Ergonomic Oblique & Straight Holders FAQ. It will explain it all.
Thank you for the useful clip.
love all ur videos, excellent channel. One question, which ink would you recommend me to start with?
+RatselJames I really enjoy Tom Norton Walnut Ink. It's delicate and requires no maintenance.
thanks for the kind answer :D
Connie Chen Calligraphy
Connie Chen Calligraphy What would you say about Platinum Carbon Black?

Nice review! helped me to not buy the Leonardt. I was surprised it was so cheap and I wondered why is no one batting an eyelash at it. Really glad that there's this review
I love Leonardt principal, but preffer Hunt 22b by a slight margin. What is your opinion on those?
Which oblique holder you use

I like it Connie.

Hi Connie, Do you still sell this pen? I just visited your website and it's no longer there. :(
Is the Zebra Pro G worth the price?
you mean the titanium zebra g?
Is it better to make the ink thicker than especially for bigginers?!!
I use my nibs for drawing/illustration and not calligraphy but I had no problems getting started with regular india ink :)
