Just fixed mine today!😁!! 10mins of labor! Got the part, used a flat screwdriver to pry the middle clip of the metal piece outward a bit, then pushed up gently on it and it popped off. Changed out the switch, took the metal piece and pressed it back into place until it popped back on. Easy as pie... All brake lights working, gear shifts out of PARK smooth as silky linens...! I basically studied your video and had it going as i was doing the work... Thanks man!!😎
Thank you. I replace the brake switch on my farm truck.. Just Excellent filming and detail explaining and I'm a granny...after watching your video. I knew I could do it. It took a little while to get that clip back on . appreciate you putting the video out.
Man great video of the brake switch replacement showed every single detail on how to do the job thanks man every other video i watched give me no knowledge but you the man kenny
Great video. I've watched several videos on how to replace a brake switch. But everyone showed only bits of the job. You were very thorough and explained the hard part, e.g. that dang clip. I have been working all afternoon trying to figure that thing out. I couldn't even see the clip on my truck. I now know what to do to get it out. Thank you so much. William
The position you have to get in to work on this is called the limbo T. Rex. Because you're lying on your back with your feet on the ground but your arms are up by your chest and chin like AT Rex dinosaur.
Thanks for the video!! This also works for a 2004 Buick Rainier as they both have the same switch and clip. Getting the clip on and off is the hardest part of this job.
You did a great job explaining. I replaced the hydroboost brake booster on my tahoe and was having trouble reassembling this part. Your explanation and video was all i needed to get it put back on in less than a minute after struggling for more than a few...im 6'4" btw...the seat rail left a permanent divot in my shoulder
Oh BRAVO!!!! Perfect view of that metal clip!!!! That thing stopped me in my tracks today because I was about to dive in on replacing the switch but saw that clip, started fingering it and then scratching my head!!🤔 Brake lights are out, hard to get truck out of PARK!!!! This switch may be the problem!!
Having brake light issues in my 2006 Tahoe, not sure if it’s a bad switch but I’m thinking definitely related to the switch. Got to yank it and take a better look. Already got that pigtail off in the dark earlier.
Thank you for your awesome video - I am doing this tomorrow on my 2002 GMC Envoy. Checked all the fuses and also replaced the bulbs and still no brake lights come on....... I am hoping replacing this switch will finally fix it. Thanks
On my 2003 Tahoe I didn't even need to replace it with the new switch. one of the little pins was pushed too far back and were not making good contact so I moved it forward and it engaged now I have brake lights again.
Thanks for sharing this. Is going to be a big help when going to replace my switch. Pulling a diagnostic error code C0281. Code description says "Stop Lamp Switch Circuit. ABS $29"
Excellent video. I need to do this, and have bought the switch. I'm a big guy, and not mechanical. No way I'm going to get that off and back on... Repair shop wants $120. May be worth it.
Glad you made that video!!! It helped me fix my tail light issue but now I'm having problems with my shifter. I have to force it to go into park and put it neutral just to crank it.
I just had back surgery and I need all the help I can get I think the dealership takes the route of dropping the steering wheel to get to it… Is that easier? I'm sure it's more time consuming but if it's easier for me, I won't have to hurt myself trying to replace that damn thing..... FYI I have a 96 Silverado diesel but it uses the same switch in the same location....
I bought the switch replaced it and my brake lights still did not work so I looked at the little bracket that you clip in and one of the metal tabs was pushed too far back for the new break switch to engage. I lined it up so it was pushed all the way forward and the pins would align and now my brake lights work again
Trucks and SUV don't give u the luxury of hanging upside down in the seat with ur head to the floor which I found to be quicker when doing stuff like this. Definitely more uncomfortable this way. Thanks bro appreciate it
My brake lights are stuck on so I pulled the 25amp fuse so it wouldn’t kill the battery. Aside from the fact that the brake lights are on I don’t know what’s wrong with that whole circuit but I’m looking at the brake light switch. That clip is the entire truck.
I had no brake lights at all. But there are cases where sometimes the brake light stays on and that can be the switch also. If you check your fuses and your bulbs then yeah it sounds like it could be your switch as well
So, I replaced mine and it felt a little loose and wouldn't engage well without the zip tie holding it up? Has anyone else experienced this? Technically I did an upgrade on my brake booster a couple years ago where I'm using the brake booster from a 2011 truck, but I have a 2006 truck. My wiring all looks good, it just seems like my switch engagement isn't the greatest unless the switch is secured to the truck. I've always thought this design was a little odd with the switch not connected to anything else, but just relying on the light pivoting motion.
The switch is easily opened. Open the switch and clean the contacts. The one that will be on the end and closed is the one that causes the problem. Just fixed mine that way.
It's hard to explain in a message but if your brake lights are staying on it's because when you release the brake pedal the arm pushes in on the switch to shut the brake lights off. All brake light switches are a little bit different in design but operate under the same principle. A quick fix for that until you get to it is to lay on your back and look at where the pedal meets the switch and pushes it in and the problem you're having is it's not pushing the switch in far enough anymore . One way you can fix that problem temporarily I had to do it in the past was I took a little bit of duct tape and rolled it into a ball and then I stuck it in between where the brake pedal pushes into the switch and it allowed the switch to push in farther and shut the brakes off. It will not interrupt your braking or anything like that so there's no cause for alarm the problem is the brake pedal is not pushing the switch in far enough to tell the car the brakes are off.
But just to confirm that is the issue I would have somebody stand at the back of the car while you push in on the switch and see if the brake lights go off. If you don't have anybody perhaps you can put your cell phone on record and angle it towards the brake lights and record a video while you do it.
My e brake light randomly flashes on and off intermittently, could this switch be my problem? This started after I replaced my hydroboost, meaning I had to take that switch off and put it back on.
@@youtubemechanic yes brake fluid is full. Im just stumped because it started after I replace my hydroboost. Im thinking i must have bumped something under the dash when i was down there or didnt put the brake light switch back on correctly
Oh, I need a full 24 hours before tackling that clip!! I stopped in my tracks when I got underneath and saw that metal clip... So here I am, looking for reassurance!!!😌
Absolutely the best brake light switch video I could find. Thank you for great videography!

Wow I bet. That's not a job for anyone over 5'6 lol
I’m gonna have to take the seat out. Also over 6 ft smh

Thank you very much you show me how the switch goes on I wasn't sure about the back of the switch that has the slit on it

Thank-you so much for your information..Was very helpful 😊
Great video explained how that clip works
Would a bad brake light switch cause truck to turn off when i press the brakes?
What was the zip tie for? Did you have to put another one in?
Awesome video!!!! It really helped me out
Glad it helped!

Will the break light not work if I don’t put the switch back on with the break peddle
Hey this video was good enough thank you man !!!
great video! been looking for this.
Before you changed it did you cluster lights flash for a second when holding brake
I just had back surgery and I need all the help I can get I think the dealership takes the route of dropping the steering wheel to get to it… Is that easier? I’m thinking my problem is going to be similar to this.
Great video
Thank you 👍🏽
What were the symptoms? Thanks
If your brake light switch is bad will it stop your cruise from working my brake lights work
Trucks and SUV don't give u the luxury of hanging upside down in the seat with ur head to the floor which I found to be quicker when doing stuff like this. Definitely more uncomfortable this way. Thanks bro appreciate it
THX for this Video. It really helps me ......and yes.... it looks like limbo😅

What issue was the truck giving you? For mine my 2 lower brake lights won’t work and I’m hoping this will fix my issue ?
I had no brake lights at all. But there are cases where sometimes the brake light stays on and that can be the switch also. If you check your fuses and your bulbs then yeah it sounds like it could be your switch as well

What happens when your spring goes zoom and disappears into the firewall cave?😭
Im gonna have fun uncliping that switch. I have to replace my brake booster and being a bigger guy im gonna have a hard time getting under there
I had to turn mine upside down (wire plug up) in order for mine to work. Plug facing down, no brake lights.
Note that it doesn't work properly...too much pressure needed to activate. Cheap Chinese junk.
Sounds like you got the wrong part
Can a bad switch cause the brake lights to stay on?
Absolutely.

Sounds to me like a faulty parking brake switch. What about the brake fluid is that full?
@@youtubemechanic yes brake fluid is full. Im just stumped because it started after I replace my hydroboost. Im thinking i must have bumped something under the dash when i was down there or didnt put the brake light switch back on correctly
Kinda like working on the bathroom sink with the flooring ripped out but the cabinet still there.
i put in the new brake light switch but brake lights still on, what next
Best video 😎😎😎❤
thanks, but you skipped the 2 hours of hell to get that clip loose, Marcus, (retired heavy equipment mechanic)
I changed the fuses and the break with the 3rd top break light works but not the left or right what else could it be anyone ?
Bulbs or wiring
Giving a like for the Twister comment 😂
haha thank you
I replaced mine and now my torque converter isn’t locking up on 4th gear… it’s a computer thing…
Am I the only one that feels completely unassured that just one little clip lies between life and death.....?
It’s a pain to get off and on for a reason. That thing isn’t coming off.
Oh, I need a full 24 hours before tackling that clip!! I stopped in my tracks when I got underneath and saw that metal clip... So here I am, looking for reassurance!!!😌
I just can’t get mine back on I’m abt to duct tape this mf together
You skipped over how to get the other parts off 1st
