All of your advice is brilliant and so true and very appreciated. Going through health issues myself I and my husband can totally identify with you. Your wholesome, wise advice is noteworthy. I too have noticed that all that glitters is not gold on RUclips because as you stated preparation, planning, and patience is vital to success. Thank you for showing us the way. Gracias Senor Cartess.

Great video & appreciate that you're willing to say the quiet part out loud. I watched the video you're referencing am a subscriber & actually like the couple behind the channel. I was saddened by the departure, however their video was RIDDLED with red flags! They didn't seem to recognize where the channel/business was lacking. It's not just the trolls, not just the comments, not just the cost if editing, it's as you described the lack of a business plan & strategy. I so wanted to comment on their video but did not for fear of the perception that I was being negative or bashing their efforts. Perhaps they'll get the help they need to regroup & set upon a successful path. This right here, this video is so important, so on point, & should be elevated to ensure others recognize how valuable & critical the information & advice within it can be to one's future. Thanks so much.

One of the best videos I've seen this year. This is the kind of honesty that people are hungry for. MANY digital pan handlers on RUclips begging for donations thinking theyre saving the world with their preaching. But that couple is just flat out dillusional. Business is business and this game has no mercy for the weak. You a real one bro. Get a concierge service popping and you will be unstoppable, I'm not playing.

What is really needed in Mexico is someone that can speak spanish and english and can guide someone new coming in. They would have been great with that, if they had found a place they liked and stayed put. They could definitely provide a service. There are numerous people doing it. I paid for a tour in Panama where you get exclusive access to information and a list of vetted people that can pick you up at the airport and take you around, show you the area of their expertise, help you with the language barrier, set up things for you. They charge 200/250 a day for all this. It's a great system. And every country needs it.

Having someone on the ground that speaks both Spanish/English can certainly make the transition much easier and smoother. I've benefited greatly from paying for help/advice from others who've been here a while. It makes a huge difference.

Great video! Another issue that I see A LOT from the Facebook groups is with young single parents with small children who want to move here to Merida or anywhere else, and they are in the process of selling their stuff, house, etc, but....they think that they can come here on a tourist visa and just stay forever! I just send a dm to them and try to give them some brief education and I always tell them, if you don't understand the visa process FIRST, then everything else is a mute point! And of course you have to have your money together! I refer them to reputable RUclipsrs who can help them with more detailed into. Plan on making a move, but research and when you think that you have researched enough, research a little bit more. You won't know everything, but when you land here, it will be less of an adjustment because you have prepared yourself.

This is a very good video and great advice. I followed Why Not Now and was surprised that they were depending on RUclips as their only income. I liked their videos I thought they had good content. I think most of the youtubers I follow have other means of income. I think sometimes people move to Mexico and they feel like they have extra money to spend since things are inexpensive. And they spend their savings instead of tucking some of it away. I ran across a video of this young lady, single parent spending money on things she couldn't afford in the states. And I'm thinking to myself how long is that going to last. Yes you have to stick to a budget when you move abroad and do a lot of research.

    Great points!
I was sad to see they gave up. I did like how they were forthright.
However I did see red flags that kept me from being all in.
I didn't see the comments they said were abundant. Even if in top of monortring I would still see a good portion of them.
    Too much blaming.
Also sometimes they said things that I couldn't back up when researching. Yes, it's good to talk to locals but that doesn't mean those people are necessarily immaculate sources, without their own issues coloring their opinions. Discernment is always needed.
I did like them as I accept people as they are and I adjust my expectations and level of closeness accordingly.
I wish them the best. Often setbacks can be out best gift if we handle the lesson well.

Thanks so much for keeping it REAL!
I'm a single military veteran w/out children moving to Mérida in July. Everyone isn't in the same position w/ the same resources & debts from Stateside. Thinking that you can blow up overnight on RUclips is delusional. You can binge watch other channels. Be authentic. Build income making systems/products. I watched that couple's video for all of 5 mins and was disinterested in the content. Yikes! I wish them the best, but they didn't have the fortitude or personalities to stay on the journey.
They tried, that's all you can do!
Plan. Save. Be real. WORK if you have too. Don't consider it to be a "vacation".

  • @Calipeixegato

This is the real talk that people don't hear enough. Having realistic expectations is CRUCIAL! You can have a business strategy and plan, but if it isn't realistic, it isn't any good. I think people watch RUclipsrs and think to themselves: "Wow, they have 500,000 subscribers and making big bucks on RUclips with THAT content? I could make a better video than that and rake in them big bucks!" without realizing it generally took those RUclipsrs many YEARS of creating and posting content on a weekly basis (and sometimes several times a week) week in and week out, non stop. And don't realize that each video takes hours/days of time to shoot, edit, and produce. It's WORK, for sure. And it's work you do for several years before you start to see any financial return in terms of payments from RUclips.
I hope Why Not Now can take some time to regroup and rethink their strategy and then get back at it. They had good content. They just needed to find their niche and stick with it.

Wow, you are honest as can be. It takes approximately three years for a YTuber to make money, providing their channel has good content. I have seen many YT channels bomb out and I have seen some channels take off. Having a YT channel takes a lot of work. Easily you can spend 15-hour days editing and this is not filming. They complained far too much. If they wanted to do the same thing others are doing they needed to do it better than the competition, not complain about people who can afford tours and wear bikinis.
There were plenty of other avenues for them, tours of the markets, where to shop in general, interviewing locals and former expats.
Instead I watched them complain through every state in Mexico while giving themselves credit for things all good normal people do like help stray animals. Mind you I've only been planning my move for a week so I've seen all the videos from all of you guys in that week.

    • @s.h.holmes785
      @s.h.holmes785 2 года назад +6

If I'm honest there was just something about their personalities that just didn't appeal to me, something just felt off or disingenuous. Perhaps it was the constant complaining. Their farewell video kind of made it obvious that they aren't the type who are open to constructive criticism either. In their minds their videos were top-notch and information packed, perhaps the viewers didn't see it that way, but they clearly weren't open to that idea. I have no idea why anyone (especially their age) would move to another country without an income source or a large sum of money saved hoping to make it big on RUclips.

Stop giving advice you failed and will continue to fail. Benjamin Franklin said “If You Fail to Plan, You Are Planning to Fail”. Now before you challenge me on being an expat I am 70 lived in Mexico for 15 years after my passport got snatched by the embassy for a child supp. issue so I have been there lived it did the jail thing and survived and don't have a bad memory. Advise your youtubers putting a camera out there in foreign countries local scene will get them hurt.
