Hi i bought one of these to go with my toni Iommi signature sg , but struggle to get a decent tone out of it . Any suggestions . I have a fender hotrod deluxe a marshall dsl 5 and a laney la studio amp .
If you’re going for an Iommi style tone, I would suggest setting the amps clean and rolling back the volume on your guitar for rhythm sections with your volume set higher. You might also try adjusting the internal trim pot for less or more output from the pedal, depending on what sort of setup you want to run.
Hi thanks for the response . turned out it was my pickup heights . now running 4mm from bottom of string to pickup pole peice. sounds sweet ie not overpowering sustain but still plenty of grit. Regards Pete

To get the sabbath tune, you REQUIRE p90s, but why your p90s don't hum? Do you use noise gate or is it something in p90s themselves? Please tell, I am looking forward to get a sg with p90s, but I don't know how to get rid of the hum on gain
I sing in a Sabbath cover band and also play guitar and sing to original Sabbath like music. There is much debate on all the amps Tony used. Supposedly, Heaven and Hell and Technical Ecstasy was a Marshall? My question to you is, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath sounds like a Marshall. Anybody want to comment on that? Sabbath Bloody Sabbath sounds more like a Marshall but it's hard to tell since there is so much synthesizers and strings.
just ordered this pedal can’t wait to receive i’m new to this doom - interested in the doom board and another fuzz to do the band “ trouble “ love that tone was thinking a rat pedal and this pedal could work any other pedal ideas
A request - can you do a comparison of running this pedal through clean channel of a fender, Marshall and vox? I found a lot of these types of preamp or amp in a box catalinbread pedals worked well with fender amps but sucked through Marshall amps.
Under the Sun is actually one of the maybe two or three Sabbath songs I don’t like. Also didn’t know Iommi used P90s, always thought his SB had humbuckers. But a bad pedal, definitely gets close to his sound
Really!?! Under The Sun is one of my all time favorite songs. I always felt like back in the day it was a “deep cut” that really laid the groundwork for doom. Glad you dig the pedal! Tony used P90’s until around Sabotage when he started using the John Birch SG’s with high output humbuckers.
Hey man, great content what would be a great guitar/pickup combo for Crowbar stuff? I’ll be able to afford a Gibson/ESP since I have been saving up for a good guitar for doom/sludge stuff specifically Crowbar and maybe some Down stuff thanks!
Got the chance to really mess around with this pedal earlier today. I’m honestly floored at the sound, I thought it worked really well as a preamp but even better as an overdrive through the front. I can finally retire the Sabbra Cadabra, this pedal absolutely nails Tony’s sound!! 🤘🏻
awesome review and pedal! sounds astonishing. I just wanted to ask (as I am new to this type of thing) what do you mean by running it through the FX return? Is the input plugged into the front end and output into the return?
Your amp’s effects loop sits after the amp’s preamp in the circuit, so if you plug your guitar into the Walpurgis and then plug the Walpurgis into the effects loop return, you are bypassing your amps preamp entirely and only making use of its clean power amp section. This is a common way people run preamp pedals if they want them to function as a true preamp.
I have the 4 knob Catalinbread Sabbra Cadabra pedal and it's the same idea. One knob is pretty dummy proof though. If I didn't have the other pedal I'd go for this one. Awesome demo sounds killer! The graphic isn't really all that important, but I love design on this one. At some point I'd love to see a design where the LED is part of some creature's eye, or something like that.
Mmmmmm I think I like the tone from the Sabbra Cadabra a bit better. It's a great idea and not a bad sounding pedal but it's missing something to my ears.
Orange OR120. Gain set at about 3/10. Most of the demo is the the effects return (echo return), bypassing the Amp's preamp entirely (so totally clean).
Will definitely do one myself at some point. Works great as a bass overdrive from Geezer tones all the way through Cisneros tones. Here is a bass demo Nick put together: ruclips.net/video/972p6a1jcxE/видео.html
This one was pretty adventurous, I’ll admit. But feedback and reviews have been pretty incredible, especially coming from people who’ve actually owned and played boosted Supergroups. I bet you’d be surprised how versatile it is. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
It sounds fantastic in the video, as do all your pedals really, and as a huge Sabbath worshiper I'd love to try it out. However, most pedals sound great with one setup (amp, cab, other gear) and don't with another. Pedals with only one knob are harder to adjust and unfortunately I had a bad experience with a pedal from a major manufacturer. So probably that is the problem ;)

It’s just a volume control. Single turn pot. Dial it all the way back to zero and then turn it up about 1/4 turn to hit factory setting.
Pedal sounds good man. That intonation/tuning is killing me though 😔
It’s rough on this old thing with that bridge man. Lol.😆
@@DoesItDoom Precisely why I can't play those things no matter how much I like the look haha.
@@DirtyDemos I had a Leo Quan Badass style bridge on it for a while, but then decided I would put an original bridge back on it and play it in E-standard, but of course I just end up tuning back down to C#.
@@DoesItDoom Lmao story of my life. I'll keep this guitar in E standard. Two weeks later it's back in B standard 😂😂
@@DirtyDemos 😂🤘🏻🤘🏻
I use Emgs in all my guitars, any way to use emgs guitars from time to time. Ive had mixed results with pedals. How does this Walpurgis to SABBRA CADABRA by catalinbread. Thanks for the video and youre hard work on tone chasing. From SA, TX
I wish someone would come out with his dio years tone i never see any videos on that
LOVE!! My Friend!!! Doom an' Rock!!! Val
Wow Steve, that pedal does sound great!!! I think my fam bought me a Sabbathi for Xmas though. That’s my jam right there brother!!! Happy Turkey Day Steve!!!🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Glad you liked it Chris!
To get the sabbath tune, you REQUIRE p90s, but why your p90s don't hum? Do you use noise gate or is it something in p90s themselves? Please tell, I am looking forward to get a sg with p90s, but I don't know how to get rid of the hum on gain
These ones hum for sure. No noise gate.
Love the reference to war pigs early name i think they use to play the walpurgis version of the song live even after paranoid came out
I sing in a Sabbath cover band and also play guitar and sing to original Sabbath like music. There is much debate on all the amps Tony used. Supposedly, Heaven and Hell and Technical Ecstasy was a Marshall? My question to you is, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath sounds like a Marshall. Anybody want to comment on that? Sabbath Bloody Sabbath sounds more like a Marshall but it's hard to tell since there is so much synthesizers and strings.
just ordered this pedal
can’t wait to receive
i’m new to this doom - interested in the doom board and another fuzz to do the band “ trouble “
love that tone
was thinking a rat pedal and this pedal could work
any other pedal ideas
A request - can you do a comparison of running this pedal through clean channel of a fender, Marshall and vox? I found a lot of these types of preamp or amp in a box catalinbread pedals worked well with fender amps but sucked through Marshall amps.
I don’t have a Marshall or a Vox but I do have a Fender Dual Showman Reverb so could do something.
Nice pedal! It does give the type of tones I like too. Nice, but dark and gloomy in a good way!
Glad you liked it, John.
Would you get the same tone if you used an Epiphone SG Special? Do you know if the P90s are different than those used in the Gibson?
Would be in the same realm for sure.
Tony used P90’s until around Sabotage when he started using the John Birch SG’s with high output humbuckers.
how soon will this be in production so i could buy it ?
You can grab one now here doesitdoom.com/product/walpurgis
does anyone know if this pedal can get a good seventh star tone?
Hey man, great content what would be a great guitar/pickup combo for Crowbar stuff? I’ll be able to afford a Gibson/ESP since I have been saving up for a good guitar for doom/sludge stuff specifically Crowbar and maybe some Down stuff thanks!
Hey man. Kirk’s classic crowbar rig is a guitar with active EMG pickups into a Boss MT2 Metalzone set as a boost, into a Randall RG100ES amp.
@@DoesItDoom thanks dude👍🏻
How much is the pedal and how dose it sound thanks
Got the chance to really mess around with this pedal earlier today. I’m honestly floored at the sound, I thought it worked really well as a preamp but even better as an overdrive through the front. I can finally retire the Sabbra Cadabra, this pedal absolutely nails Tony’s sound!! 🤘🏻
Really glad to hear that man!!! If you get a chance, please drop that review on the website! doesitdoom.com/product/walpurgis
The pedal sounds fantastic! Just to have an information, is it sent from America?
Yep. We ship worldwide. 🤘🏻
Does !
🤘🏻🤘🏻
awesome review and pedal! sounds astonishing.
Just scrolling around your website, is it come with a free tshirt if i buy this pedal? 😜✌️
Still confused with walpurgis or hypercoven tho
Glad you dig the pedals, Bill! Hypercoven is currently sold out, but we're working on another run.
Nice like it
How does it sound on a 6L6 amp?
Sounds great through my ‘79 Fender Dual Showman Reverb.
Wow, sounds identical! Definitely going to try and grab one before they’re gone! Now when are you gonna make a one knob D.I.D. HM-2 clone?😂
Glad you dig it man! HM-2... hmmmm.
@5:00 holy shit what a way to play that riff
Learned that watching live footage of Tony playing it. Full lesson I put together here: ruclips.net/video/kFA7A6AlxMg/видео.html
Similar idea on paper, but vastly different in terms of circuit and tone. 🤘🏻✝️🦇
@@DoesItDoom I hope you sell an butt load of them!
Be cool to hear this with a Jaydee old Boy guitar with the hi gains....
It would. Unfortunately I sold my Old Boy many years ago.
Since the pedal is OOS, when do you think there will be more?
@@bassjaymi sometime later this month or early next.
Mmmmmm I think I like the tone from the Sabbra Cadabra a bit better. It's a great idea and not a bad sounding pedal but it's missing something to my ears.
Two very different sounding pedals for sure!
That sg is beautiful, what model is it?
It’s a vintage 1965 SG Special. Early model with ‘64 specs.
@@DoesItDoom wow! Thanks
I might of missed what amp you're playing through? clean channel?
Orange OR120. Gain set at about 3/10. Most of the demo is the the effects return (echo return), bypassing the Amp's preamp entirely (so totally clean).
It’s a great price!
Yes!
5:26 Song?
That’s the bridge in Under the Sun.
We need a bass demo!
Will definitely do one myself at some point. Works great as a bass overdrive from Geezer tones all the way through Cisneros tones. Here is a bass demo Nick put together: ruclips.net/video/972p6a1jcxE/видео.html
@@DoesItDoom awesome, thanks!
around 8:20 could almost be burzum, interesting
🤘👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹🤘 Hej hell bro znakomicie jak zwykle zajebiście perfect Black Sabbath super

Very nice tone..
your tuners pulling your leg tho dude.
The vintage tuners on this thing are a struggle. I just can’t bare to change ‘em 😂
Apart from an awesome demo, this video kept me from mispronouncing the name in perpetuity.
Don’t feel bad, I pronounced it wrong my entire life, until we decided to use it for the pedal name.
@@DoesItDoom 😆😆😆 That's so funny.
So is this a rangemaster clone. I have one with OC44 mullard. Thing RIPS! I use with Orange dark terror 1/12 peavey cab.
The Walpurgis combines the Rangemaster circuit with the preamp circuit from a Laney Supegroup.
@@DoesItDoom 👍👍
I like all your pedal ideas, but I at least want a separate gain and volume knob, and ideally some tone shaping. People's setups are so different...
Nails the tone but sounds more like a fuzz ,not a saturated overdrive -4.57 minutes
Just ordered mine! I missed out on the Riff Master, I didn’t want to miss out on this one!🔥🔥🔥🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Enjoy! Thanks man.
Sounds almost identical
Glad you dig it. We worked hard trying to get it right!
So a Sabbra Cadabra?
Vastly different in circuit and tone, but similar idea, yep.
