  • In his 1836 Méthode complète pour la Guitare, op. 59, Matteo Carcassi included basic introductions to keys that are commonly used in guitar music. Here he introduces the scale, some chords common to the key, and short pieces based on the scale and chords. This recording offers Carcassi’s introduction to the key of A major. For the first four exercises there’s a click track lead-in, so you can play along if you like.
    In the three short pieces you’ll hear that I sometimes depart from the original sheet music. Musicians of Carcassi’s time often improvised. My changes are merely hints of what might be done by an enterprising player.
